I wished I'd read the book instead... I'll be honest... I was disappointed. It was a very short play for me. Even with out needing the hints (and you do need them in places) it would have been at most maybe five hours. Add to that that it made no sense what you were expected to do. Not that all these games Have a plot so to speak but this was a little bit more of a stretch than most. I found out why in the credits... It was based on a story by H.P.Lovecraft. Had I known that, I wouldn't have even Tried the game in the first place. Even if the devs tried their hardest, they would never have been able to make one of those stories make a lick of sense to the average person. Only thing worse would be a game from one of Agatha Christie's novels. (yes I know they're out there. I'm trying to ignore them thank you.) If you like short convoluted H.O.G.s then by all means, try this one. Otherwise, I'd say you could miss this one and not lose any sleep over it. June 4, 2014
15 Minute Demo! You have got to be kidding. That was the shortest demo I've ever encountered. Not nearly enough time for this game to redeem itself from my first impressions. The graphics are very basic and dull. There are way too many pieces of paper to pick up and read. The Hint button gives too much information. A simple arrow in the right direction is all most people want or need. The Hint function for this game tells you exactly what you need to do. (Don't know why anyone would need a Strategy Guide with these kinds of hints.) Same old black smoke swirling around to represent the evil spirit. Nothing about this was engaging or fun. There did seem to be a lot of puzzles, which some people might enjoy. This is a definite "no" for me, and I'm not interested in the standard edition, either. June 11, 2012
Not a good game. I played the demo for about 20 minutes and it was boring. The HO scenes were not at all challenging. It takes to long to change from scene to scene. It was very disappointing. I would never buy this game. Not even the standard version. June 10, 2012
Story line jumps all over and hard to follow I played the demo version of this game and felt that it was all over the place, having to move from scene to scene without knowing why or what needed to be done. The story line made no sense to me and I felt it was difficult to follow. Would not recommend it. June 17, 2012
Just Awful HATED IT!!!! I had to use the hint button through the hold game. When u finally got the hint and went to the area that it advised you to go to, you had to wait for another hint just to find out what to do next! August 13, 2012
Hmm Ahh, Charles Dexter Ward, how you aggravate me! I finished this game in a few hours, and I freely admit that 90% of the time, it was simply a matter of skipping the ridiculous mini games, and struggling to see if the ending redeemed the spectacularly dull gameplay. It didn't. But, I thought, there is hope! There's bonus game! This game has no sense of completion, no real ending, and the story and setting tries to be macabre and dark, and falls short of the mark. It wasn't the worst game I've played, but it wasn't great. after only 10 min I deleted the game.. Not as hot - Poor Game July 14, 2012
Not For Me 7 minutes into the trial game I knew this was not a game for me. Not up to the usual standard of a collectors edition. Not even worthy of 3 stars. Music was tolerable...hint button recharged slowly....hidden object scenes....about average. June 10, 2012
Creepy at the expense of game play I really enjoyed the other Haunted Hotel Games. This one was tedious, creepy and way too easy. I like creepy but this one did creepy at the expense of making strong puzzles and interesting game play. I found that it followed a slow cycle--find one or two objects-use them, find and object-- use it. The HOG were simple and straight forward. Since I paid for it, I forced myself to finish it but... Worst Ever Didn't like this game at all. I never review games, but wanted to take the time to do this game. June 13, 2014
