"Dark Alleys" felt a little like "Confused Alleys" I really like these kind of games when I want to take a break from straight out HOGs or even HOGAs. I bought the CE version, but, after reading the reviews here, I think I would have done better to buy the SE, so that is why I am putting my review here. The story started out very good. The graphics were okay. It might have been a good story, but, after awhile, it got a bit confusing and, in the end, I'm not sure exactly what the story was. From what I've read in the two reviews above, it seems to me that the dev's extra content only confused the story. I was a common enough story, but I like try to find the clues to mystery's and so that was okay. I would have given this game a much higher score if I wasn't one of those people who were into the story as much as the game. For those who like to play just to find the right action etc., I think you would like this game more. I had fun, but wish I had saved my CE money for another game. June 13, 2012
TRICKY, CHALLENGING PUZZLES I loved this game! It's no HOS by any means, but is a fun, challenging, interactive puzzle game. I played the hardest level and it really kicked my butt. It's been a while since I had such a challenge. Well worth the money and more. Really appreicated the longer play time. In this one you have to collect items to move through the levels and solve puzzles. There are no lists of things to find, but you don't miss it at all. Decent story, you have to save your daughter who disappears when you stop for gas. Some of the storyline is a bit vague and confusing, but who cares when you have a great game to play. July 3, 2012
I guess I just don't get it. Normally, I enjoy ERS games. Normally, I enjoy games that have lots of five star ratings. Not this one. What a waste of time and money! I noticed this game was among the $2.99 ones today. It should be even less than that....like maybe ERS should pay US to play it? There is no rhyme or reason to the game at all, no flow, nothing that leads you logically from one task to the next. Talk about a "smear the cat with mustard game": why on earth would anyone use a scout badge to open a brief case?? The puzzles themselves were either so easy my 6 YO grandson could do them or so difficult as to be unsolvable. And the story line? Who was that guy at the end? Where did his building an eternal life machine enter the story? I thought it was about murders and a WWII war hero. I missed something entirely. I love adventure games, but this one gets two big thumbs down from this granny. It was NOT a fun game at all. ERS you can do so much better. December 29, 2012
Just OK I did buy the full version but 1/2 way through it seemed to lose the interest factor. I found some of the puzzles too difficult and therefor more frustrating than fun; others were too easy so there was no happy medium. I quickly got bored in the last 2 chapters... October 7, 2012
Not a HOG/A but a Puzzle/Adventure Let me start by saying ~ What's with all the "let's put a kid in danger" scenarios lately? Lighten up! 1- This is a straightforward Puzzle/Adventure mystery game. So if you're looking for a HOG/A, look elsewhere. 2 - The storyline is dark. A family is slaughtered and a child goes missing. Some of the action is really creepy (man being attacked by a glowing Rottweiler, for instance). Some of the scenes are disturbing (child in cage). 3 - The artwork is good, if unoriginal. A hotel straight out of "Psycho", and the run of the mill decaying town. 4 - Acting is okay, but the little girl got a bit annoying after a bit. Music is repetitive and boring. 5 - Puzzles are pretty intuitive and actually make sense within the context of the story. Recommended because the artwork is good and the puzzles fit the scenario and are just challenging enough to be interesting. July 9, 2012
Fun Game This is one of the only games I actually finished in one day! I really liked the story line and the visual graphics. It was exciting and was challenging enough to keep me intrested without having to press the hint button too many times. The only thing I did not like about the game was that there were no hidden object scenes. I am glad, however, that I didn't see that in the description as I might not have bought it and would have missed out on a great game! July 4, 2012
Best HIdden Object game so far! I really enjoyed this game. It is just hard enough and I really liked not having to search for hidden objects in a room full of stuff! It really keeps your mind active. Will there be more Dark Alley games coming soon? July 3, 2012
No Hidden Object Scenes! Finally a game that is all adventure with no hidden object scenes. I play these games with my 6 year old and his interested wonders when it comes to the hidden object scenes. As does mine at times. We also play on casual/easy mode. We take all the help we can get and will skip games if too hard to complete in a short period of time. There were times when I was lost on what to do. There were no Goals displayed, the hint button didn't help & there were no sparkles to be found. The ending left some to be desired, but also left it open to a squeal. We both liked that the characters in the game appeared real and that they talked, therefore you didn't have to read all the dialogue. I would love to play more games like this! June 29, 2012
Good challenge Not too much going backward and forward, great graphics and an interesting story.. some of those magic stone puzzles got a bit boring but still there is a skip button if you wait for it... Good one bigfish! June 28, 2012
Lots of gameplay and some intriguing puzzles The storyline is a bit macabre - there's lots of skeletons and ghosts and bits of dead people, and allusions to child abduction -- and, shock horror!, the most disgusting bathroom EVER. There are lots of scenes to explore. I enjoyed finding various objects and carrying them around until I found what to do with them. The HOG scenes aren't overdone - I hate games that just go from one HOG to another, but this was quite varied. Some of the puzzles are fairly easy, some a bit harder, but nothing impossible. Only downside was the music - actually quite good music but not enough different themes, so after several hours of play the repetition is really getting on your nerves. Turn the sound off and you'll have a good game! June 27, 2012
