The 4th game of the great series "Echoes of the Past"!
The witch came back to revenge and casts a spell over the kingdom of Orion.
To help them, you have to find the 10 gems of the magic staff, to have strong powers against her.
Interactive gaming experience, many locations with a lot to take, use and do. Most times things found and used soon and close. Not much comes and goes.
Different types of HOS - classic, but interactive, and then you will place what he found in another scene, also interactive, or, you have to find pieces of an object. They are not very difficult.
Usual mini games, but with something more, like "light all the lights". But... there are some who need one and others that require two wires connecting them. They recur, and although increasing the difficulty, they are not exactly challenging.
The sound is nice, the graphics are crisp, well-made cutscenes, VO appropriate to the characters, and has a journal.
Five chapters plus Bonus chapter, extra mini games and strategy guide.
I loved all the Echoes of the Past, and this is also well entertaining, although not the best of them.

For puzzle lovers only, info on puzzles, bonus play and extras. glitch in bonus so wait until update
If you are not a puzzle lover I don?t recommend this game to you at all. I am and even I found some areas between puzzles boring.
I really enjoyed all the other games in this series but thought the last game would be the last in the series as it was really pushing the plot of the same witch which you defeat in every game and keeps coming back. This is the weakest of the series by far. Instead of calling this game something else, as it doesn?t have the same feel, look to it as the other games, they have ended up watering down the series instead of finishing strong.
This game is the perfect example of formulaic plot, sometimes you can get away with it if everything else is strong or excellent or at least different. Frankly the story, plot etc was really bad IMO. The only thing very good about the game was the puzzles, the graphics were washed out and seemed worse than the other games, adventure side boring at times. Both puzzles and hidden object scenes were repeated.
I bought the CE as it promised unlocking of puzzles and ?game designer ? create your own game levels and play them? Both of which are locked until you complete the whole game including bonus.
The game designer is 4 different layouts of one puzzle (move tiles from bottom to corresponding picture in upper tier, they are joined together with tiles beside them and you have to move them around to unjoin them.) but all you can do is choose what picture goes where! While this is far better than concept art I was disappointed as I felt it was misleading.
There is only unlocking of 8 puzzles -
-Peg solitarie (white knight jumping over black pieces)
-Move numbered round tiles around (9 of them)
-Red and blue ball in bowl to go into separate coloured bottles
-Solitaire but it?s only one set which you if replay if repeated
-Simple flower rotating rings (one in greenhouse)
-Harder aquarium
2 bonus puzzles? medusa head simple lock puzzle
-Move one tile, move the others simultaneously
As the main positive thing about this game is the puzzles, they could have easily unlocked all of them.
PUZZLES (spoilers as to kind, numbers in this review are roughly!)
There is a variety of type ? arcade, logic but nothing timed. I found them all to be easy-medium apart from the arcade/non logic type. I loved the amount, variety of them as I?m a puzzle lover! (for a HOPA though, I think some are hard - hence the 4 out of 5 hardness.)
The first puzzle you encounter the light up the lines one, if you don?t like it then you will be frustrated as that puzzle is repeated 10 times, (different patterns) I didn?t mind them as I could do them very quickly.
22 different puzzles in main game.
Repeating puzzles and number of times you play them in total
? light the lines puzzle 10
? aquarium puzzle 2,
-domino 2,
- peg solitaire 3,
- click on pattern tiles to rotate them 2 plus another variation of it
- bonus puzzle - fit items into area, 6 (they all are marbles of different shapes)
HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES (numbers are roughly, I did try and count!)
What was good was that there were three different kinds of HOS ?
4 different traditional scenes ? all of them you had to play 3 times.
2 different reverse scenes (put item back)? both of them you had to play 3 times
5 find the same items ? one was repeated
Mostly static scenes (not much movement), some tiny and hard to see objects, defined enough but not sharp. Mildly interactive.
There were 3 levels of hardness and you couldn?t switch mid game. The hardest had no sparkles, no info on puzzles, no skips or no hints including HOS. But they did have black bar tips and with reversed hidden object scene told you the objective.
I didn?t feel the puzzles, HOS and adventure were well spaced out. It was a good length SE and probably super long if you are slower with puzzles. But the SE wasn?t 100% tied up and told you what you would be doing in bonus. But there really wasn?t any plot in bonus.
BONUS PLAY (see earlier about other extras)
I found the quality of graphics better in the bonus. It took me 1hr 20 mins (advanced, no hints, no skipping etc) but I think I?m quite fast in some puzzles so think it would take most people at least that long? It was all set in new area.
HOS ? Three different traditional scenes which you play all of them 3 times.
Puzzles ? Fit marbles in an area ? play that 6 times, there are four other different puzzles.
I had to repeat the whole game as I got a glitch in bonus HOS (few others have reported similiar in forums) so I'd wait until it's fixed before buying.
It's so frustrating this game as I love the puzzles, love that they tried to do something different with extras and it was far better than concept art and wallpaper! I just wish the HOS weren't repeated (which I hate) and started a new series with a different better plot. I do think it's an objective 3/5 stars.

Another great Echoes of the Past
Played 30 minutes, regular mode
-5 chapters + bonus play
- 3 gameplay modes, Regular, advanced, expert
- Notebook
- No map
- Integrated SG
- Voiceovers
- Inventory is at the top of the screen
- 2 kind of H0, in one you find objects in the other you have to put them back where they belong. Very clear.
- Hint button (a mirror, top right side) refills quickly, regular mode, useful outside H0
- Skip takes longer to fill
- Absolutely gorgeous graphics
- Interesting puzzles, just to my liking ;)
- Same old story of the witch you have to defeat since the first Echoes of the Past, but you get caught easily.
A definite buy

wow, this witch just won't give up!
in this, the latest installment in this hidden object puzzle adventure series, the wicked witch has returned and is seeking revenge on the kingdom of Orion. it is your task to save the city and its inhabitants from her dark powers. to vanquish the witch, you must restore power to the magician's staff by finding the jewels it was encrusted with -- jewels that the witch has cleverly hidden throughout the kingdom.
graphics: the art is nice; appropriate colour and crisp detail with no fuzziness. the hidden object scenes are strangely static -- even though there are some interactive hidden objects in most scenes, there are no truly moving items ("moving" like in a film). this may not bother anyone, but i found strangely distracting.
minigames are fun, but i have seen all but one of them before and thus, they aren't difficult to solve.
music and sound effects: the background music has been recycled from other games by these developers so you will recognise it (although i don?t think it really matters, does it?), and the sound effects are minimal. the voice-overs are nice, though.
storyline: the characters are rather one-dimensional, but the storyline is coherent and straightforward. no gore. one thing i find amusing about this story is the claim that you will defeat the evil witch "once and for all". since this is the fourth game in this series, it seems this witch is not one to give up. like, evar.
gameplay: this game has three modes of play: regular (hints, hand-cursor, sparkles, minigame skips), advanced (hints, minigame skips) and expert (no hints/sparkles/skips/hand cursor). there isn't too much back-and-forth, although some of the very first items you see are not get-able (and usable) until later in the game. a journal and strategy guide are provided -- the strategy guide does not keep pace with where you are in the game. scene transitions were a bit slow but not annoyingly so.
my interaction: one hour demo. i plan to purchase this game.
this is a fun and engaging adventure that most people will enjoy. recommended!

EXCELLENT
Beta tested this game a few months ago and have waited for it to come out. Excellent game. Similar to the other Echoes of the Past games we have seen in the past. This is more of an adventure game, so if you like HOG games, you probably won't like this game. Yes, it is similar to CEs we have had in the past. There are 3 levels, but the advanced level does not give you any hints or help at all so be warned. The puzzles are slightly different although you will find some familiarity in the types of puzzles offered. The only thing I did not like was the inventory bar at the top instead of at the bottom. Very few games have the bar at the top, so it took some getting used to. The music is identical to the other games from Orneon. The graphics are beautiful and there is voice which you would expect in a CE. You need to collect gems to defeat an evil queen. Nothing really different on the themes we have experienced in the games. Very easy to navigate. For me, a winner and a probable purchase due to the fact I have been looking for a great game to play and it is an adventure game.

Puzzles Puzzles Everywhere!!
This game should really be called a Puzzle Hidden Object Game (or PHOG), because I counted an amazing 40 puzzles in the main game and 12 in the bonus - puzzle gamers should love this one (I'm not complaining!).
There are around 22 H0S scenes in the main game and around 9 in the bonus. They are a mixture of traditional list H0S, "Find All of One Item" and "Return Item To Its Proper Place", which makes for good variety and ensures you don't get bored.
The Hint button refreshes very quickly and there are no click penalties. There is some running around towards the end, but the scenes load immediately with no time lag. Graphics are crisp and clear, items easy to find. The main game took me just over 5 hours, the bonus around 1 hour.
All in all, a very enjoyable game that I couldn't put down until I was done.

Not bad
Not many truly negative things to say about this game whose quality is roughly the same as that of the other three in the series, although I found the very first one, Royal House of Stone, far superior in all respects.
The intro [although quite standard], cutscenes, voice-over, are good and the visuals nicely colored. I didn't pay much attention to the music which, like always runs in loops, but is never annoying.
No difficulty in the interactive HO Scenes, especially on the easiest of the 3 levels of difficulty as hints recharge almost immediately.
The "adventure", ie: the useful items and their application, is rather standard, quite easy, but is lacking in imagination. The Hint system also helps you find your way if you get stuck.
Quite a few minigames, not innovative but entertaining if not very challenging. I regreted to see that one [ the crystals] was repeated several times.
The CE includes the traditional SG and the minigames for replay.
The SG lets you play the first 2 chapters but gives no indication as to the rest.
All in all, a strong impression of dj vu without any novelty.
Recommended mainly to gamers who are new to this type of HOPA

She's Back! I don't think we're in Kansas anymore....
Based on the Demo: The 4th game in this popular series seems to maintain all those things that keep us coming back for more. The storyline remains engaging, 'cause after all, we do want to save the good guys from the supremely Evil Witch... tho' i think after this 4th attempt i'll be about tapped out - it'll be her or me this time, then i give up unless the dev ups the ante with this game recipe. Graphics/ artwork/ cutscenes are all of very nice quality, & voice acting is good. HOscenes are not difficult to do or to see. Puzzles/minis i've done so far are easy. As soon as you begin the adventure you start collecting & using items rapidly, which for me is great motivation to play like crazy. The music sounds the same as the other installments of Echoes, so it's either like visiting an old friend or easily tuned out; either way it doesn't add much in the way of atmosphere. 3 modes of play allow you to up the challenge, tho' the game isn't difficult - but i have to say that what it may lack in challenge, it makes up for in engaging entertainment. Your talking mirror will give hints, & i haven't checked out the SG so can't comment. I've really enjoyed this series so far, & couldn't help but get swept into this newest installment straightaway. This dev knows how to get the action going & draw you in as soon as you hit "Play". Needless to say, i'll get this to add to the collection, 'cause i'm having fun. I'm not yet convinced that the CE is necessary to the story, so if my short supply of patience allows, i may wait a bit to buy & see what others have to say about that. Definitely give this fun game a demo, & enjoy your gaming, folks!!

Disappointed in this one!
I have played the previous games which I really enjoyed, but for me this one was not as good.
There was a lot of tooing and froing, which usually I don't mind but there was no logical flow to it. It just all seemed a bit haphazard and became a little frustrating.
The HOS were standard ones, not difficult with little interactivity. There were some interesting puzzles but the problem was that they were repeated..again and again, so they got very boring and I ended up skipping them.
The bonus chapter started off well, then same thing again..repeated puzzles and repeated HOS.
