You'd be foolish not to....
You have to try this one to really appreciate it. There are so many things about this game that should have turned me off but somehow they didn't. This is something completely different, a completely non linear game with so many different ways to go. You arrive in a town with the task of finding the mayor to get him to confess about recent UFO activity, you aren't really given any instructions, you just wander around going to different places and meeting different people. This should put you off but somehow doesn't. The people you meet are all straight out of the asylum (lots of them sound like flies buzzing when they talk) and all have different tasks for you to complete for them. You earn money for completed tasks to buy items for other tasks. The map is huge and it's easy to get lost but there is a marker to help, getting lost is not really a problem though as there's usually another strange resident waiting round the corner with something for you to do. Graphics are cartoony but clear, controls are responsive and the musics ok. The humour is sometimes a bit childish but even I laughed in places. One hour is not enough to get to grips with this one - this is a must buy for me. No good for those of you who don't like moving around much and who like precise hints and tips, but I loved it!

The Most Fun I've Ever Had with My Computer
An adventure game that goes on forever, crammed with stuff you don't know you need 'til you need it. The "adult" stuff has to do with a more or less running excrement joke--something I ordinarily find tiresome at best--which doesn't come up all that often and is perfectly bearable in the context when it does. There's a map that tells you where you are in relation to where you want to be, but there's no jumping to get there #although you can take the "subway" when you can find an entrance# and if you hate backtracking, you'll deeply hate this one. Still, I don't know when I've had more fun than when I played it...both times so far #bought it from the developer ages ago.#

Quirky and Addicting
Whew...just finished! I literally spent over nine hours playing this; couldn't stop until it was over and all the tasks were completed. Note that it is possible to finish the game without completing all the tasks; your objective is to accumulate enough money to fly out to an island to meet the Mayor, after which the game ends. If you complete all the tasks, you'll earn at least twice what you need to buy a ticket, so you don't have to do everything. But if you're like me, you'll not want to leave the mainland until you've helped all the crazy people who want to give you money!
Those of you who plan to rely on the walkthrough, be warned that many, many of the tasks are missing from it, so you'll be on your own for some of them. Having said that, the hint system is very helpful, so you shouldn't miss any items you need. Towards the end, I had to write down all the numbers of places I had visited so I could figure out what I had left to do.
There were a few spelling mistakes (not enough to seriously annoy) and the tutorial for a puzzle involving pipes described it as a jigsaw puzzle, which it was not. Other than that, I didn't notice any editing errors. With a game this large and with so many locations and characters, you'd expect a few to sneak past.
The puzzles were varied and, for the most part, not difficult. There were a few mini-game type puzzles (defusing a bomb, playing soccer) where, if you messed it up the first time, you wouldn't have another chance to play. But there were others (a shooting gallery, a couple of gambling games) where you could earn more money whenever you pleased.
There's a policeman who occasionally harasses you; he's funny for awhile, but after the 90th time he showed up, he was getting a little tiresome. (Maybe if he'd said more than about four different things I would have been more patient with him.) I would have loved for the map to be interactive; I wore out at least seven pairs of shoes by the time it was all said and done. (It did help to write down where I'd already been and who was in which house/apartment.)
And speaking of done, what a bizarre ending! I was disappointed at first, but then realized that, had I been the developers, I may not have thought of any better way to end it. But then, I like long good-byes.
I look forward to more of this genre!

So much fun and hilarious!
Yes, the humor can get a little low-brow but it is really Monty Python-esque fun!
Nice change from creepy chasing evil games. It is so darn funny that I laughed most of the way thru it.
Lots of collecting alot of inventory and wandering from place to place helping silly people for money. Lots of wacky characters and their zany problems with improbable solutions, this game is VERY FUNNY!!!!
Also, to speed up transit time, check out the under city transportation system. You just enter almost any house or apartment to receive quests.
Puzzles are crazy like a jigsaw puzzle with extra pieces.
It's just for fun and I loved it!

One-of-a-kind game
This game can get to be addictive! The non-linear style allows you to just explore as you want to and as soon as you have the money for the plane ticket you can finish, or you can carry on and complete the 100+ tasks available.
The toilet humour does get a little thin on the ground and getting covered in faeces (which you then have to wash off) seems a little pointless. The policeman popping up ever so often is also slightly irritating. However, the rest of the game is cute and you seem to have a neverending city of weird characters and locations. It's very easy to completely miss a location, passing it dozens of times before you even realise it is there. It can be frustrating but still fun when you discover a new place.
A tip: make a detailed list of every building: the number, who is in it and what they want. The map is also incredibly helpful to find your way around. Unfortunately, the tutorial is a little vague and you have to work a lot out for yourself about how to do this. I wish I had realised early on how important detailed notes would be.
The ending is somewhat odd and perhaps not as fulfilling as it ought to be but the length and fun factor of this game make it well worth buying.

Must Have!
You simply MUST try it! This game is completely unlike anything you may find on this site, and not only this one. Whatever the title says, the game is definitely targeted at smart people. This is not a regular HO game, but a full-blown adventure - something I've been missing for years. Other positives - good graphics, and sounds.

A complete package of fun!
This is a different take on hidden object. This is the funnest most creative hidden object game Ive ever played! I was amazed at how many levels there are, and always new things to find and fun quests to solve with different stuff, extremely cool sound track too! Bravo! I enjoyed it greatly. Thank you BigFish.

Very Interesting game
I have really enjoyed this game so far (just finished demo and decided to buy) - lots of challenge, and a lot to keep track of.
If you are playing remember to knock on all doors. There are lots of tasks to complete, but it does seem that you need to go everywhere to do them
There is a hints button if you want to use it, and you can get hints on all of the tasks

A Mixed Review ... Things That Would Have Made the Game Better!
Having played 55 minutes of the demo, I can only say that I have mixed reviews, but I will purchase this game anyway because it's different, and once I figured out how to make the game more enjoyable for me, I know what to do. I will purchase and start a new game. I would have given this game more than 3 stars, but . . .
First, to really enjoy this game, you need to do two things: 1) Read the tutitoral first, and more importantly, be sure to read how to use the map. You will need the map to get around the game. 2) Have paper and pencil ready, because you will need to go back to houses throughout the game. As you play the game, write down what the people need and the house number. When you collect what's needed, it will be easy to go back through the use of the map. I didn't figure this out until my demo was almost up.
The second thing that made this a mixed review for me was that there was no skip option. I finally figured out that you could work through the dialogue by clicking. Who makes a game these days with a skip option -- Smile.
Sound -- I hated it. I would have rather had no sound from the characters than the sound that was provided.
Storyline, was OK.
Challenge -- mostly you have to remember who needs what.
With all my complaining, you probably are saying "why purchase the game?"
Because it's different and once I following my own advise, I think this will be a very challenging game.

Grab a pen and paper -- you're gonna need it
City of Fools is a treasure hunt of a video game. You need This but to get it you have to find That and the person who has That needs The-Other-Thing and so on and so on.
Some of the things you get are from helping people, some are bought at various 'stores' or places where you simply find things. And you are charged with around 200 tasks, so grab a pen and paper and start making notes. You will be playing this game for hours and hours and hours.
You have an online guide to your tasks, but they don't always mention who its for or where they were. Said guide can also give you hints to complete a task. .The guide can be difficult to navigate once very full, since you really don't do things in order, and you cannot skip around, only move forwards and backwards in the book. You sometimes waste time trying to find the 'right' page in the book, so keep your own notes from the start.
The graphics are very cartoony. The music is pleasant enough. The humour tends toward body function/potty humour, which is occasionally a bit icky. The plot line is all about you needing a pass to go meet the Mayor. The ending is annoying, as it pretty much abruptly ends.
The worst part of the game is the navigation. You get a map to show you where things are but it cannot be used to directly jump from place to place. By using the pin in the upper left corner the onscreen arrows will guide you to a particular place, but it's not always very clear -- some places require steps that aren't highlighted well.
When you're going around the map be sure to take the 'subway' at least once, just for the hilarity of the 'cars' it uses.
