Grab a pen and paper -- you're gonna need it City of Fools is a treasure hunt of a video game. You need This but to get it you have to find That and the person who has That needs The-Other-Thing and so on and so on. Some of the things you get are from helping people, some are bought at various 'stores' or places where you simply find things. And you are charged with around 200 tasks, so grab a pen and paper and start making notes. You will be playing this game for hours and hours and hours. You have an online guide to your tasks, but they don't always mention who its for or where they were. Said guide can also give you hints to complete a task. .The guide can be difficult to navigate once very full, since you really don't do things in order, and you cannot skip around, only move forwards and backwards in the book. You sometimes waste time trying to find the 'right' page in the book, so keep your own notes from the start. The graphics are very cartoony. The music is pleasant enough. The humour tends toward body function/potty humour, which is occasionally a bit icky. The plot line is all about you needing a pass to go meet the Mayor. The ending is annoying, as it pretty much abruptly ends. The worst part of the game is the navigation. You get a map to show you where things are but it cannot be used to directly jump from place to place. By using the pin in the upper left corner the onscreen arrows will guide you to a particular place, but it's not always very clear -- some places require steps that aren't highlighted well. When you're going around the map be sure to take the 'subway' at least once, just for the hilarity of the 'cars' it uses. June 27, 2012
Alright, but you need a pen and paper An alright game, with alright graphics, dull music, purile humor (e.g getting covered in "plop" by accident) and disappointing ending. If you play this game, a tip from another review: Have a piece of paper and pen at the ready. Also read the tutorial before you start. You're in a village (that is a pain to navigate around - hint: use the flag to help you), and need to go into the houses and shops (to find quests and buy objects), then go back to relevant house with object(s) found or bought, to earn money in order to buy the plane ticket you need to get to the island where the Mayor is holed up. (Not a spoiler, as this is the specified point of game). Overall I'd give it a 3, but there were things which really bugged me: 1)Navigation and directional movement is not intuitive, 2) Game freeze - Getting into the notebook of quests gets slower as you get further in the game 3) End game part for me made the game crash out and then come back to the main menu - so I had not realised I had competed it (and ended up playing for another 3 hours the other quests thinking I had missed something to complete it properly)... It made me unhappy when I looked up the ending on you-tube and realised I'd reached that point, and that the whole ending was uncreative. If you have a spare credit and want something a bit different with toilet humor, and requirement to use pen and paper notes - feel free. I won't be playing any other games that are compared to this one in any reviews. July 1, 2012
Foolishly Fun If you're on the fence about this one, definitely check out the demo because it's really hard to put this one into words. Yeah, it's really that different. And for those wondering, the "adult theme" is really just potty humor and some partial nudity, very cheeky. ;o) While you're visiting a town to investigate a UFO rumor, your visit really has nothing to do with it and instead, you wander around town, encountering some pretty "interesting" characters and helping them with their problems by finding items anywhere and everywhere. This is NOT an HO game at all. There are a couple of puzzles, but it's really just a humorous adventure game. Pros: There is a LOT to do in this game so find a way to keep track right off the bat. Extremely long gameplay. I spent hours and hours and hours playing this one (5+). There's never a dull moment with all there is to do and see and people to meet. By the end of the game, I had completed 119 tasks, though I've read that some forum members had 121. Not sure why there's a variance, but there is more than one way to play this one. Cons: The walk through is less than helpful, in fact, it's missing a LOT of what to do. I suggest visiting the forums if you get stuck. I had about 6 items in my inventory and not one of them was mentioned in the walk through. I won't spoil the end, but yeah, the end was pretty abrupt and disappointing. It's over so fast that you're left wondering if you missed something. Not sure if that means sequel, but it was all pretty confusing. Some of the sounds in the game are obnoxious, but nothing that turning down the volume won't fix. After playing it once, I know what I'll do differently next time and that's to keep very very good records of where people are and what they need. It adds up fast and if you don't keep track somehow, you will very easily become lost. I would have given this game 5 stars if it weren't for the ending and for not having better tracking within the game. Was still a very fun game and I recommend checking it out. June 25, 2012
thank goodness a game i can play as a grown woman thank you BF u need more games for the older folks June 23, 2012
a very different fun game I love the concept ot the game. You have a large map to explore with many surprises on the way. The characters are all a little crazy. You never quite know what you'll come across next. Although I don't care for the overall theme of potty humour (never been a fan#, I'm still enjoying the collecting of things and helping out the many citizens. Most of them will pay you for your efforts and you need the money to buy stuff to complete other tasks. Good: -excellent map -flags you can place on the map to help you find your way #you'll need it# -unlimited inventory -journal to keep track of your tasks -highly addictive, once you start it's hard to stop -very long gameplay, excellent value for money -two game modes, extreme and casual #extreme is more fun if you like to figure things out for yourself and want longer play time# so-so: -some spelling errors / some items not named correctly -you can only play one game at a time #two people can't have their own player account# -the underground train system #I've never used it because it's much more fun running around the streets and finding little surprises here and there# -way too much potty humour and other gross stuff -character's speech is garbled, but the dialog is written as well bad: -that annoying cop who keeps popping up every now and then #he serves no purpose and while he makes his silly comments you can't do anything at all# hints: -keep a record of who lives where, because you'll never remember them all and the map doesn't tell you -some things you find will leave you covered in 'stuff' and nobody will talk to you or give you things, so you need to find a water source to clean up, there are several throughout the town #just click on it and you're all washed up# -keep a look out for empty bottles and cigarette packs on the way as you can sell these #I won't tell you where# -some items you can find, some are given to you for completion of a task or as exchange for another item, but most you have to buy from various shops #buy everything you can afford as you will inevitably need it) -read notices on walls, look in rubbish bins, cracks in the road etc. -explore EVERYWHERE Note to Bigfish - I found it ironic that I had to edit my submission because it contained 'inappropriate language', when I was only quoting words used in the game. If it's wrong I don't wanna be right!!! This game is wrong on sooooo many levels and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! I played it 3 times straight so far and stopped to write a quick review. This will be my first and last review because games are so unoriginal these days that i'm rarely inspired to make an effort. Well kudos to the developers for this rare jewel. Its fun, exciting, addictive, inappropriate and you can't wait to get MORE!! Please make more of these. Yeoman's job!! June 24, 2012
Cute, But Tedious. The fun factor lost points for me because all the speech is a bunch of mumbling, you have to read what they're saying and the encircled lips...ewwww. Visual was really nice and crisp and detailed, but that mumbling speech brought it down for me. Also, I found all the running back and forth so tedious it took the fun factor right out of it for me. The story line is cute and a bit different, but not enough to keep me hanging around. I'm glad the other reviewers got so much out of it, but this just seemed very hodge-podged ...sorry. Had me laughing out loud It a quirky and unusual game but that is what makes it so fun and interesting. I love that it is like nothing I've ever played before so you are always left guessing what comes next. I like that there are so many tasks so you will be kept busy for several hours not like a lot of games that will only keep you busy for an hour or two after the demo. Plus there is the challenge of figuring out how to solve some of the problems. You need a good sense of direction because there are a lot of turns and places to explore. I have had to use the map several times but a definite buy for sure! June 22, 2012
So Awful, I Quit I hardly ever quit a game. If I pay for something, I want to get use out of it but I just could not take it anymore with this game. No plot, no way of knowing what to do next, no puzzles, wandering around, backtracking. It was a nightmare. I always use reviews so sometimes I get burned. Boy, did I with this one. Not my cup of tea. July 8, 2012
dumb I'm surprised this game gets such rave reviews. It's original but dumb. Basically you just wander around the city fethching items that have nothing to do with the storyline. August 18, 2012
