This is pure joy If you love PupperShow, you will not be disappointed by this 3rd installment. I was very excited when I saw this release today and I only played the demo so far but as soon as I am finished downloading the game, I am going back in to complete. April 19, 2012
Great game, but... For the most part, I liked this game, but I was quite disappointed in the number of HO scenes - there were WAAAYYY TOO MANY! In the beginning of the game, I was really delighted because there were a couple of (for lack of a better term) HO scenes that were interactive, like a puzzle within a puzzle, so to speak (mirrored the HO scenes of some of the ones in Song of the Phoenix). I was initially very excited by this, but as the game went on, the developers resorted to plain old HO scenes - although there were the obligatory few red hghlighted items in the list you would have to puzzle out a little to find. I found myself very frustrated by this & ended up trying to rush through them to get back to what I considered the true game. Quite frankly it really irritated me, and I was disappointed, as I felt that such a large volume of HO scenes was a cop-out for what is otherwise a brilliant game. It's not that I mind HO scenes, it's just that they.were.everywhere! If there had been more of the interactive, puzzle-within-a-puzzle kind, I would've rated the fun factor much higher; however, if you are a huge fan of HO scenes, you'll love it. The graphics and sound quality were great, really exceptional; and the puzzles weren't so difficult you couldn't complete them, but some DID require thought. I DO wish the inventory would stay open until I decide to close it, but that's really a minor thing to me. The only other thing I have to add is that, when you get to the bonus content of CE, make sure you are careful to pick up everything when you are in certain scenes. Otherwise, you'll have to replay the whole game under a different profile to go back to get it. I don't want to give anything away, so the only hint I'll give is: "Crane Control Panel." I neglected to pick up something initially and the game closed that window after I performed the action required; usually the windows will remain open if you haven't picked up everything or figured out everything. Not this time. All in all though, I would still pretty highly recommend the game. April 30, 2012
PuppetShow : Return to Joyville CE As soon as i saw this game i didn't even bother with the trial i went and purchased it right away! I absolutely love the PuppetShow series and this one didn't dissapoint.Outstanding graphics, sound and voice overs are excellent,The challenges however were challenging as the previous versions which left me playing the game for hours.Storyline: Felicia wants to redeem herself from her evil deeds or...Does she? There's an interesting twist which i'm not divulging what it is .That's for the fishies to find out.Overall this is a great game from begining to finish. If you enjoyed the previous PuppetShow games you'll definitely will like this one as well.I totally recommend this one! How Is This Getting Good Reviews? *REVIEW BASED UPON COMPLETION OF REGULAR GAME AND BONUS GAME* Finally! I finally finished this game. Oh, how I curse the switch in my brain that tells me I MUST finish EVERYTHING I start! If you like a game that is nothing but HOGs, this is the game for you. If HOGs were a kingdom, this game would be its king. Every time you turn around, hidden object game, hidden object game - they are everywhere. However, perhaps one could forgive the incessant use of HOGs if they are presented well. Not a chance. Every - and I mean every - single HOG is a junk pile of tiny objects packed up to half your screen or more. They are hideous. The mini-games are scarce and they are simply tokens, as they are not at all challenging, just an obligatory "switch these two" so the developer can say they put a mini-game in this dreadful game. The graphics could have been cleaner. One thing I can say that is sort of positive is that the bonus game was not an afterthought. It was an acceptable level time-wise. However, that is a double-edged sword, because by the time you reach the bonus game, you just want this game to come to end. C'mon, my fellow fishies! Raise your standards as to what you expect from your games. As long as people continue to praise bad games, the games will continue to be sloppy, repetitive, boring and mindless. Raising our collective standards will, in turn, raise the quality of our games. Happy swimming, dear fishies! August 9, 2012
Great visuals, clever story, typical gameplay I really enjoy the PuppetShow series, and the art quality and storytelling in the game are really solid, but I was a little disappointed by the game play...it seemed rushed and without the kind of intuitive logic that I prefer in my adventure games. Fun Factor There are some interesting puzzles, and even the ones you've seen before are visually charming and good fun. I was pretty disappointed by the adventure tasks, though. A lot of the items you had to gather, and the uses you needed to put them too just weren't intuitive or logical, and you often find items well before you have any idea that you might need them. It makes me feel like I am just being led through the game, without any need to figure out what to do on my own. Visual/Sound Quality- Great art, with that great mix of vivd colors and creepy imagery that all the PuppetShow games have had. Definitely gold standard. Level of Challenge- The puzzles are well done, but most aren't terribly hard. With the adventure scenes as straightforward as they are, this is the sort of game you can just relax and wander through, watching the story unfold. I prefer a bit more challenge, but the tasks were still fun and pleasant. Storyline- I found the story very clever, and it using the time travel trope very nicely. This was actually my favorite story of the series. A good game in general, it just didn't wow me as much as the earlier games in the series. April 23, 2012
Worth the time Another in the series with incredible graphics, a good storyline and interesting characters. The CE is 8 chapters plus a bonus game and the legnth of the entire game was reasonable. There is a journal (notes) but no interactive map which doesn't matter as it is easy to move around. There are 3 modes of play but the game is relatively easy, including the puzzles. The HOS have a lot of items which may detract for those who do not like clutter but I found them to be interesting with a lot to look at and a challenge to find things as they were blended in very well. There are also a couple of different modes in the HOS - silhouettes for example and the usual 'complete an action to find the object'. The music is not overbearing but can be a little repetitive on occasion. The level of challenge will not suit those looking for something a lot harder but there is enough here to make the game interesting and a challenge on some level. Overall, worth playing for the beautiful graphics and weird creatures. April 22, 2012
So much fun!!!! I really like all the Joyville games and I find these so much fun to play with a very good story and you get so involved each time with the characters. I like the way the game has so much not only hidden object scenes but puzzles and some are mind bending. I really like the puppets in these games they are so well designed. As soon as the game starts it gets you involved and I feel that is what a good game should feel like, that it keeps your interest and it's very interesting to play. I really recommend this game it's so detailed and gripping. Thanks Big Fish once again for another great game to play. April 21, 2012
ERS reverts back to the same old... Last week I spent a fair few enjoyable hours playing Song of the Phoenix. An incredible game which was complex and absorbing with new twists on the HOPA genre. I really thought it was ground breaking. So why did ERS then release this? Having broke the mould they then reverted back to heavy HOS reliance; which as in the other PupperShow games gets worse the further into the game you get. It was almost as if this game was developed beforehand as it felt out dated. However it was an OK experience not overly taxing, Took me 3hrs 40mins in advanced mode, haven't played the extra bit as was just too sick of junk piles to bother. For fans of the series I am sure this is a winner, for me a waste of 2 credits :-/ April 21, 2012
Another great one from the folks at ERS! I have played every ERS game out there and have loved them all! The reason I gave this particular game only 4 stars is because I just happen to like the past PuppetShows just a little better. I think it's just personal perference in that regard, but I still highly recommend this game and hope they keep this series (and all their other series) coming as fast as they can crank them out!!! April 24, 2012
Forced sequel? I was excited when I saw there was a new PuppetShow -game. Sadly, when I got to play it, I was slightly disappointed. The graphics were stunning as always and there was great variety with the puzzles, so thumbs up for that, ERS. It just lacked that extra something which keeps you engaged and excited the whole playtime. It feels like a very forced sequel TBH. The one thing I actually kind of liked was ***SPOILER ALERT*** the monkey that jumped at you every once in a while! I must be a bit crazy, I know, but that spiced things up for sure, haha! Scary stuff ftw. The story wasn't that compelling, it was actually pretty boring. Cricks as a villain wasn't really _that_ evil. Then there was too much running back and forth, especially for a person with leaky memory like me. But, the one thing that bugged me most was probably ***SPOILER ALERT*** when the bonus gameplay ended. Did Cricks survive? Did Felicia and her dad reunite? What happened to the robots and puppets? They just cut the story off, like that. I do recommend this game after all. It's an decent and visually beautiful game, don't just expect too much. May 14, 2012
