WHAT A GREAT GAME ! Excellent choice for the weekend! Ethan and Clair are in love. They are going to marry and they think nothing could rob them of their happiness. But, he receives a letter from his father and they have to go to Cedar Falls. At the train station, Clair gives a phoenix to her groom and they take the train ... A weird masked observes the couple at the station. The trip flows peaceful until ... only playing to know ! A game very well developed, with great care to every detail. Excellent storyline, very well done following, gorgeous and crisp graphics, very good VO, great sound. Cutscenes are interesting and worth to be watched. Good amount of HOS, not challenging, but pleasant because they have good visibility and interactivity. Varied mini games, some new, some known but well done. Many great locations, with lot of things to do ... and the game flows ... not need to be going back and forth all the time ... This is great! Provides great fun, although not really challenging. Definitely goes to my collection!! April 6, 2012
Excellent!!! Based on full play, this is one for your collection! The developers really took their time developing the storyline and the game really held my interest throughout. The graphics are excellent, the HOS aren't difficult but the game is challenging, great VO, mini-games are very varied, there is a map though it's not interactive and the game play is long. If I could give this game 10 stars I would but it's well worth the money and leaves me hoping we continue to get this type of value for the price. Happy gaming all. April 6, 2012
If You're Undecided Between SE and CE Purchase This review is for the whole game and playing in Expert Mode The story: You take on the role of Ethan Black who has to rescue his bride to be Claire who has been kidnapped. 14 Chapters Journal/Map Voice Overs for some parts of the game then text on screen. 2 play modes: Casual/Expert - Hint/Skip take 2 minutes. Hint can also be used outside of HO scenes. Mini Games My overall impression of the game: Well this is one game that is definitely worth the extra money as I purchased the CE version when it was released. I found the story very intriguing as I couldn't wait to see what happened next in this game even though it's been done many times before the kidnapping and family secret theme story. The graphics, cut scenes, and voice overs well I can sure tell there was some time and thought put into this game though I'll admit those characters popping up on the screen every so often really startled me. LOL! I also thought the HO scenes were pretty nice, crisp, clear for the most part and quite a few of them. A couple of areas were pretty dark and had to use hints for those. The first couple of chapters they are interactive but after that just normal HO scenes that you find by word list. This game just flowed very well with some traveling back/forth getting the inventory items which sometimes tells you what needs to be done. Lots of different locations to go to and lots to do however sometimes you do visit the same scenes for a few of the HO scenes. The mini games were for the most part pretty easy and fun though a couple I found a little challenging but far from frustrating. Not that I needed it but one thing I will say I didn't understand about this game was: The map: I really didn't understand the purpose of having a map that just shows a little red dot of where you are. You can't use it to travel back/forth and it doesn't have any names of the different locations. Just a red dot.. You are here. Well big deal! LOL! As for the game length: Obviously varies from player to player but took me about 6 hours which was definitely long enough for me. Just additional info just in case you're undecided which version to purchase: The CE is 4 bonus chapters which is a prequel. Though it's not necessarily needed as I found the story to be complete without it however just additional info that the developer here provided which I thought was really nice. You also visit some new locations however some are the same as the main game. I also found it to be long enough as it took me between 2 to 3 hours. The strategy guide: i didn't need it but checked it out. You access it through the menu option of the game. You also have to "chapter select" as it doesn't follow you along as you move along in the game. Thanks Big Fish and developer for an excellent game here. A 5 star rating all the way from me. Definitely worth the extra money. This ROCKS! April 6, 2012
Long game, well worth playing This was an excellent game; it took me over 5 hours to complete in expert mode & no need to buy the Collector?s Edition as the ending was very satisfactory. There are 2 modes, casual with 60 second hint recharge & sparkles/glints everywhere or expert with 2 minute hint, unfortunately this mode also has a big blue neon eye wherever there is a hidden object scene. The music was good, not too over the top & it suited the game. The voiceovers however are only in the first sets of cut scenes & then again at the end. Most of the game is dialogue only, it is clickable, I recommend watching the cut scenes as they are very good; I particularly liked the ones that were shown as paintings being coloured in. I did not like the way the characters leapt to the front of the screen with a sort of whooshing sound when their dialogue appeared on screen, it was rather disconcerting. You do collect quite a lot of inventory items but they are used relatively fast so you are not carrying a great many objects at the same time. The H0 scenes do have interactive items during the demo but after that they disappear & they are just word lists. However some of the objects are well blended in & it was fun searching them out. There are not very many mini games & they are the usual sliders, move tiles into a specific coloured corner, there is a skip button but I only needed it for one puzzle, all the rest were pretty easy. However there were some tasks to solve through the game which added interest & were fun to figure out. You do get a journal which has a few clues within & there is a map but it only shows where you are, you cannot use it to jump between scenes. There is quite a lot of going to & fro between areas but I did not mind as the graphics were clear & crisp & the artwork excellent I did not give it 5 stars as it is rather too easy even for an intermediate gamer on expert mode but this developer always produce a good looking game & this is well worth playing. Beautifully & Well Designed GAME COMPLETED SEVERAL TIMES If it wasn?t for the weather, I might have given this game five stars. But the endless downpour wears away at my nerves to the point I cringe every time the clues lead me outside. Which they do a lot, because there?s a lot of ground to cover. Ethan Blake (that?s you) has to stop a madman before any harm can come to his fianc, held by the kidnapper. It?s a familiar opening, but it soon takes off in new directions. The story, though very cleverly and artfully told, is at times quite confusing, yet remains fascinating despite that. All sorts of weirdness happens that requires explanation. The ending ties all this up satisfactorily, if a little strained. The game play is logical without being linear, you have a reasonable idea of where to look for the type of item you need. Predominately HOs and relatively few not too difficult puzzles, this is nevertheless an exciting adventure, with superb graphics and delightful varied locations. It is quite a long game, as there?s much to do and many places to go, but it doesn?t wear thin. More games of this balance of games and styles and story would be very welcome indeed. Very professionally done. April 7, 2013
Long Time Member...First Review For Favorite It is a credit to this game that I rate it five stars even though I have no working volume on my computer. This is by far the most graphically exquisite game on Big Fish. The cut scenes, finely drawn handsome characters, interactive HO games, intriguing story line are exceptional. April 6, 2012
It was OK nothing special but good length I played the CE. The SE plot is 100% tied up here the bonus plot was a backstory and an actual bonus plot (it wasn't needed to understand or complete the story.) At the beginning I was really enjoying it then it began to fall apart a bit for my taste. The map wasn?t interactive and quite frankly useless and there was quite a bit of backtracking. Then they started to repeat hidden object scenes, there was a sparkle eye on the HOS and I played on the hardest of two levels. They also had random click penalty and the items were not sharp, and blurry and some quite small or faded. There were black bar tips (tells you what to do if you click on an item). Some of the cutscenes were flat ?cutout? characters that pop up with non moving lips and dialogue at the bottom. There were voiceovers at the start and end but not throughout the game. HINT The hint button will say ?I don?t have anything else to do in this location? but will also keep showing you an arrow until you get to an area where you can do something. The plot was OK (I never like saying much as it gives too much away) but you have to find and rescue loved ones and defeat the baddie. I liked some of the cutscenes as some of the story was told through drawings. The middle with all the backtracking and quite a lot of hidden object scenes had me a bit bored, it did pick up in spots but oh for a transporter map. Puzzles a bit varied in hardness but nothing hard or unique but I don?t think any were mind numbingly easy or boring. TIME took me 5hrs 30mins for main game, so it was a long game. This is one of those games, that I won't remember and will blend into the next one. Nothing special but nothing bad either. If they had given me a transporter map, sharpened the HOS and didn't repeat them then I would have enjoyed this game a LOT more. June 25, 2012
Loved it! I just want to say that I really enjoyed this game. I loved the story, graphics, puzzles, everything! Often when we get to the end of a game we feel rather unsatisfied, it's just over. This game however, gives you a satisfying ending, it is like being involved with a good movie, yes...I loved it! April 6, 2012
Great game! It's got it all!! I love this type of HOG, it's got a creepy house, town, cemetary, island, even a small creepy amusement park! Great story line with a really good villian and hero as well. I know these HOG's might seem redundant after awhile, but some of us can't get enough of them! Keep them coming Big Fish! Loved it! Could not Quit Playing This was a hard one to stop playing. The story was intriguing enough that I had to keep going. The historic inaccuracies aside, it had good HOS and puzzles. Half way through it stop having interactive HOS and that was disappointing. I really love that part. Puzzles were very doable. Graphics were OK. I liked having real people but would have loved some voice acting. A good solid game. April 8, 2012
