Grim Tales: The Wishes Collector's Edition 4.5 5 144 144
I really liked this game This was a very good game. I have the other grim tales and really like those games. This one was just as good. The story was dark but I laughed at some of it. It just wasn't scary. The little puppet was cute. This is a long game, with alots of going back and forth, which I like. The hint was excellent. I wish all games had such a helpful hint. The extra play was kind of a let down. It was very short. The game has a map and a guide, but I never used it. I didn't have to, the hint was helpful anough. Good going guys, this was a very fun game. July 17, 2012
Easy, unexceptional and perfectly boring The title of this review sums it all up: Grim Tales is probably a good game for beginners and players who don't want to fry their brain cells. But it will definitely be a great disappointment to most veterans and challenge lovers. In addition to its being dead easy, and as if that wasn't enough, two highly helpful features have been implemented: the SG and a Hint System which is extraordinarily generous on Casual Mode. After 10 mns of play on Casual I restarted from scratch and switched to the most difficult of the three play modes; things got a tee wee bit more interesting from then on. However, - I had no problem going through each HO Scenes almost at warp speed, although I have never been too good at that sort of search - the puzzles are basic and unoriginal - the "adventure" is straightforward and not at all exciting. - all the items, those in the HO Scenes like the useful ones, are the usual type, identical to those you encounter in all other HOPA games. Here again I expected more originality from the devs. I must say that after playing over 300+ of these games and demos I tend to be a lot more demanding: having to find keys game after game to open the obvious lock, or oil cans to use on padlocks or hinges, or bulbs to light up a dark area, etc... [ the list is a long one] inevitably generates boredom.as well as hopes for something different. But the "something different" is not to be found here. - the demo lets you play only Chapter 1. Not a good idea ! How can one decide whether a game is worth buying or not when no indication is given as to the quality and contents of the entire game ? - the storyline is the same as what you have in many other similar games: you "fight" some sort of dark evil force to save someone... when you don't have to save the world.... There remains the other bunch of artifacts: the graphics which are good though far below the norm of the possibilities of today's graphic cards, the soundtrack [average...], the cutscenes [ well...], and for the CE, the now traditional additums that more often than once do not add anything that justifies the selling price. On this basis, I will refrain from recommending the CE. The SE might be seen by a number of gamers as worth 7 bucks + Tax but this Grim Tales is a no-buy for me, not even with a 2.99 price tag. Not as good as I thought. I was really looking forward to this game since I have liked the other Grim Tales. This one compared to the others ones was a bit silly. It does have 3 levels of diffuctly which I like, hint buttom recharges fast, nice graphics and sound. However, there was no journal, seemed very repetitive, and a bit cheesy. To each thier own though :) July 14, 2012
Excellent Game!! Another stunning game with gorgeous graphics and a fantastic storyline, thank you Big Fish, The story and the puppet giving information rather than having a diary is good and not to mention the fabulous map that's interactive so no back tracking to and fro every 5 minutes. Loved the different little stories within the one story, fabulous game!!. August 12, 2012
Strange game I was looking forward to playing this game based on other Elephant Games offerings. I was very disappointed. The story is one of the hokiest I've run across, very bad. The production is poor to say the least, with bad VO, bad characterizations and mediocre artwork. The HOS are clear, but the objects needed are disguised - white on white, etc. The map is very good, and the in-game hints are good. That only makes playing this game go from pure torture to semi-bearable pain. July 14, 2012
Above Average I found this game to be above average in all aspects. Length was just right for a CE. Bonus is a little skimpy but I was amazed as new chapters opened up during normal play. Some of the puzzles were downright impossible but you can switch game modes in play (no skip in hardcore) and skip those that I felt I might never pass. Love being able to warp from place to place, really speeds up gameplay. Great mix of HOS and puzzles and puzzles were a great change of pace with some toned down suduko, minesweeper, swap three, lots of different styles. All around a very solid game, don't think the CE is a must but I usually splurge for it anyway. August 8, 2012
tedious sorry, loved the other grim tales but this one I found tedious as constant back and forth and back and forth. The puppet had a very annoying voice. some of the puzzles were good and new (to me) graphics were very static and in my view rather poor. Seemed to me as if this was a completely new dev to the other grim tales. rather regret buying. August 7, 2012
not bad overall The only complaint I have about this otherwise great game, was the explanations of how to play mini games. It seemed like it was written by someone who's first language is not English, I cound the instructions very difficult to understand, and ending up skipping alot of mini games for that reason. Otherwise, great map, no penalty on hints, helful little wooden guy, great graphics, good storyline. August 6, 2012
Another great from Elephant Games! For me, Elephant Games have become the standard in HOGs which all other games are compared. Each scene is beautifully rendered, the storyline is magical, the puzzles are challenging but not overly so that you become frustrated, and the best of all, there's an interactive map which allows you to go directly to a scene where an action needs to be performed! I loved this game, and even loved the Bonus chapter, which was a lovely challenge in and of itself. Bravo Elephant! August 5, 2012
Gripping Great game! Couldn't stop until game completed. CE "bonus" game was only ok, wasn't as good. Recommend the SE unless you can get a really good "sale" on the CE. The rating I gave is for the SE. Rating with the bonus play would bring it down to 4 or even 3 stars. August 1, 2012
