Great to the last key stroke.....
This review is based on CE game play, casual mode.
I loved this game and that's something I haven't been able to say about a game for a while.
It had a great storyline that held together through to end of bonus play. Excellent, crisp, beautiful graphics, a good sprinkling of HOS and mini-games.
Favorite things:
--Map! Wish all games had this. The map allowed instant movement from one place to another, showed "hot" areas, and "not" areas.
--No journal, but not needed as the map filled the gap
--Music was light and unobtrusive, even during HOS so no need to turn music down
--Very creative storyline and scenes - everything was beautiful with a slight air of menace....
--Mini-games where shamelessly easy, but creative and fun
--Collecting the 26 mini-statues hidden in scenes was really fun at first mainly because the statues were so detailed and neat to spot. Toward the end it seemed they were phoning it in as the statues were indistinct or just a random gnome. Too bad.
Not Favorite:
--Clicking on objects during HOS was a bit imprecise, at least with my system anyway. I might have to click on an item two or three times to get it to select the item I wanted
--the "disappearing/reappearing" inventory bar, gave me vertigo after a while. I'd prefer just to have the inventory shown at all times rather than pop up whenever the cursor hits that vicinity on the screen
This is a terrific game. Very polished and well put together. I am slow and this game with bonus play took roughly 6 hours.
Highly recommend!

Excellent!
The graphics are very interesting. Different storyline. HO are not too difficult, Once you figure out who the good guys are, game makes more sense. Music isn't too invasive. Going to buy this one.

Will buy
Yes, definitely on my 'to-buy-list' after playing the demo. All the things I love best about Hogs - excellent graphics, nicely interspersed mini-games - easy to move about and logical next steps! There's also a map :-) A hint of myth and mystery in the storyline and there are achievement awards to add a bit more punch to the gameplay.
Great game.

Fantstic - Best Game I've Played
Everything on this games works well:
The graphics and cut-movies are great. The different statues and personalities add so many dimensions. The story twists and turns.
The items are very logically used and the fun "Helpers" make things very interesting.
One warning: There are 2 endings. Depending on which object you have left (you have 2 at the end) is how the story ends. I didn't know that and just used the first one I grabbed. Now I'm going to have to play thing again to get to the second ending because if I had know I was making a choice - I would have chosen different the first time.

Love, Love, LOVE this game!!!
From graphics to each of the characters this game was awesome and the only con was that it was over way too soon. I wasn't through the demo before I was hooked. Like a great movie I'm playing it again to pick up on little cool things I may have missed the first go around and to just enjoy the characters who were awesome. The first game that I've saved a wallpaper for my desktop background which says a lot with all the games I've downloaded from BFG. It ended implying a continuation in the storyline so I can't wait for the next one. . .!!!

WOW.. Same, yet So Different!!
In addition to wallpaper (rather nice by the way) you?re given music and video. If you?re not interested in those you?re also given 7 chapters complete with strategy guide, 36 achievements and 27 miniatures to collect. Art work is very well done HO scenes are clear and full, not a total junk pile. I clicked feverishly and never received a penalty. Balance between HO and puzzles seem fairly balanced, perhaps tipping a wee bit to puzzles. Bonus Area: Wallpaper, concept art and music are accessible immediately. Bonus game and video are unlocked upon completion of game.
There is a map that lets you teleport and also indicates where you are, if an area has something to do now, if you are not able to access at this point and if you should return later.
Three modes of play, casual, advanced and hardcore. I tried expert, no sparkles (whee) the hint button seemed to fill up very quickly (bonus if you?re frustrated). Screen options; full and wide, I had both checked and my laptop (15?) was completely filled (wonderful, thank you Dev.?s). The voice over of your ?helper? who is also your hint button is extraordinarily great. The infliction is fantastic?all voice over actors could learn from this one! The statues are phenomenal and are interactive; some will help you along the way.
Note: when first signing in and choosing options my curser was jerky. I unclicked custom curser and it moved well. After I played a few minutes I accessed the option screen from the game and reverted back to custom curser and no problems at all.
Storyline is refreshingly different and game play is fun. Enjoy!

It was OK
Please be advised that I only played the demo and I really need a good story to get into a game.
That said, this game had what we've come to expect: good graphics, decent music, sound effects, a combination of HOS and good mini-games, and a story.
But getting to that story is a long road and at the end of the demo, I really didn't know enough to care about buying the CE.
I know all developers walk a fine line between too little story and too much, but they need to give us enough story to engage our interest to want to buy the game. In this case, the meager bits given out did not make you want to travel to the end.
I had to refer to the strategy guide for several actions that were more than strange - having your rooster fetch heavy things for instance. (Note to developers: I'll buy almost any crazy thing you send me - vampires, ghosts, time travel, lights and fireplaces blazing in long abandoned buildings. But not a rooster that flies to the top of a tower to retrieve tools - especially after I apparently reached up from the ground and helped myself to something else from the same place!)
The SE might be worth the cost, but for a CE, there are more worthy candidates.

Outstanding!
This game should be the standard for all others, not the exception. It is beautiful, bright, innovative. The items in the HOS scenes are evident...not so miniscule that they may as well be non-existent. I implore developers to take notice and follow suit!!!

just what we're looking for
Wow let me tell ya.. this developer has it down and they just keep getting better. Totaly cool story told by a miniature pirate guy with the perfect narrater's voice. The story of a town where statues come to life and the little orphan girl who lives there. The graphics are amazing and so detailed that even the stars in the sky dim and brighten. You have several small statues that jump to life and help you when you need them..including a miner guy, a little flying rooster and several gnomes. Too cool !! A side search for 16 miniature statues as well. Lots of locations with a jump map. The map would also tell you where there were things to do.. which made the game a touch easy IMO. It did eliminate any wandering though. There were achievements mostly in conjunction with game play rather than bonuses for not using hints etc. This is really a great game package with lots of HO scenes that never once repeat, a great story, awesome graphics and a pretty good length. Exactly the kind of game I look for. This baby was perfect. Haven't played the bonus chapter yet but the fact that I probably will play it says something as I almost never do.

Absolutely LOVED it. Buy it. Buy it now!
I really hope this becomes the new standard in HO/adventure game development! The story was interesting, the graphics were beautiful, the music pleasant and non-intrusive. The v/o was absolute music to my ears. It's clear that professional talent recorded it, because it was flawless. But best of all, this game has some really inventive twists in gameplay. You earn--and keep-- "helpers" in your inventory that you use in various scenes throughout the game. Even though the HOS were "junk piles" as some gamers call them, they were interactive, which made them more interesting. And there is this little guy you meet at the beginning, who is also your "hint" guy, who narrates the cut scenes. Makes it seem like he's on the journey with you. What startled me a little, in a good way, were the statues that seemed to speak directly to me as I played. That was unexpected and fun. There is a great mix of tasks, mini-games, and HO, and you also have the chance to earn trophies for finding a series of mini-statues and achieving other gameplay milestones. There's magic in the story, but overall it avoids the evil, demonic, satanic themes which I really don't enjoy. If you like HO and adventure games, buy this one. It will grab you from the start and not let go until you've completed the quest!
