Totally Awesome! Was a bit hesitant getting this, didn't bother with the demo so hoped the game was worthwhile, and it was! Great storyline, graphics, and voice overs .. clicked on the archer as much as possible 'cause his voice was amazing! Didn't see the twist at the end coming, but was really well done. The puzzles weren't that hard, but you could skip them in a short time if you wanted to, hint button recharged quickly as well. The only reason i would buy the CE would be for the extra gameplay, have to admit that Titan was a bit scarey! Congrats to the developers, would buy their games any day after this one! More please!!!! June 20, 2012
About time we get a game worth my time. I wasn't sure when I started this game but after playing, I am positive. I will play it again. I did play at the lowest level. I found the puzzles fun, not too hard but not too easy either. After reading a few of the ratings I too agree the Bonus was a little short. I missed a few of the statues and it would be nice if there was some indication, without going to the strategy guide, of where they might be. However, when I play it again I will find them. The ending was different than I expected. I also did have an issue with the game closing out on me near the end. I had to close out and restart the game but it did take me to the correct spot. So, if you are considering this game, it is worth the extra few pennies. June 20, 2012
5 star whimsical game let down by a few things - bonus info at end It?s an elephant game, my favourite DEV. I love their graphics ? crisp, sharp* and beautiful. This game like all their recent games, give you a transporter map (instant jump) and here give you helpful different coloured icons on the map ?things to do now, later etc?. They never repeat their hidden object scenes, have plenty of puzzles and it?s a great adventure. But this is the shortest game I have played from them, 4hrs 45min for main game plus another 45min for bonus. While this is just on the cusp of a normal length SE game for me anything under an hour for bonus play, it?s too short. Other games by them ? surface, black aisle, legacy were around the 8hr mark and over for me (on middle play). I really am astonished at the length of this game purely because they are known for long, quality games. I think this could be another new series from them, it?s easier than the others and I think has more hidden object scenes than most of their other games, as they are known for not having many. But compared to other HOPAs it would be about min-medium amount. I love that this game has humour throughout, is whimsical and has a completely different plot. All I will say is that statues come alive, I won?t say any more about the family in this story as it would be a spoiler. It has a very well done voiceover ? a gnome who is also your hint guide. There is no journal and the plot unfolds through cutscenes which was good and they have upped the amount of plot in this game compared to their others. This makes it a good balance of plot, adventure, puzzles and HO scenes. The pace was excellent and kept my attention throughout. They have a choice of 3 settings in gameplay ? middle (advanced) has no sparkles but still has hint and skip buttons, the hardcore has no hint and skip buttons and you can change them mid game. If you were playing hardcore I could imagine you not liking the hint if you just wanted to use the transporter map, as the coloured icons indicating you could or not do something in an area didn?t go away on hardcore. Also in HO scenes and in adventure there still was black bar tips. I liked the information and some comments but if they had separated out the tips for hardcore players it would have been better, although it wasn?t bad compared to other games. They didn?t have any black bar tips for the puzzles in both middle and hardcore gameplay, which was great. If you wanted a hint on the objective of a puzzle you had to hit the ?I? button which brought it up. The hint button SG players will love as it basically is a spoiler as to what to do next. I didn?t use it as it was too helpful, and if I wanted a hint I just looked at the map. It's not like surface mystery of another world were every new chapter is brand new and you never go back to old areas. Although most of the play you kept to new areas you discovered. HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES 17 hidden object scenes well spaced out, non were repeated but they were mainly far too cluttered/junk pile for my taste. While most of the game and even HOS were sharp quite a few objects weren?t as sharp and could have been better*. While there weren?t tiny items some were small and others blended but not super hard to find. I did find sometimes some of the items weren?t as well done as others (looked flat and not well integrated). I loved the non random click penalty and there was two scenes one all gold, and one all blue/silver which were good and I loved the shop window scene most of all. Sadly they were only mildly interactive. PUZZLES No handholding, but help if you wanted it (press ?i?) Mostly unoriginal and on the easy side but they were beautiful and well done, making even the easy ones enjoyable. Non were mind boringly easy and there were quite a lot of puzzles but were well spaced. There were a couple of trickier ones thrown in. For my taste they were mostly too easy but I loved the amount of them. Ending for main game ? If you were a SE player you may think you would know what the bonus plot would be and might feel the story wasn?t complete. But the bonus plot doesn?t go where you think it would, so it doesn?t finish one side of the story either. TIME - Took me 4hrs 45mins on middle setting but I didn't skip any puzzles (I tell you to help you guage how long it might take you if you played on casual etc) BONUS (all unlocked at start apart from video and bonus game) -Achievements -26 miniatures you collect throughout the game (see them in achievements area) -Bonus play -SG -Video is 8 cutscenes that was played throughout the game -Music - 4 soundtracks that you can save -16 concept art -11 wallpaper Bonus play All in new area and doesn?t feature anyone from the main story, (apart from your gnome) I felt the ending was abrupt. There was 3 hidden object scenes and a few puzzles. One puzzle I spent 20 mins on and it was random and I ended up skipping it ? (I like logical puzzles that you can work out so skipped it). So you can take that into consideration when I say TIME for BONUS PLAY - 45mins. While elephant games CE usually impress me, and with extras here they do (although no unlocking of puzzles in this game) the bonus game and collecting things is the main reason why I buy CEs, so I am not recommending this CE version. If you don?t think that bonus is short then you will love it but I would recommend waiting for the SE version and you will get a 5 star SE game with built in mini SG. (hint button!) If it was a normal length elephant game I would have no problem giving this 5 stars. June 15, 2012
GREAT GAME - SHAME ABOUT THE BONUS! Wasn't sure if I'd like this game, but was very pleasantly surprised. The graphics were what I like and the puzzles, although not too difficult were hard enough to keep my interest and I didn't skip one puzzle or go to the SG for solution - which is probaby a first for me. I loved Rupert and the rooster and helper miner, a lovely original touch! HOS were original each time, except in Bonus game where one is repeated from main game. Really excellent game, However I could not give a 5 star rating as in places it was really slow and I had to wait a while for the game to catch up. My big disappointment however, was the bonus game. I really thought it would tie the story up, but it just turned out to be a really short game - 25 minutes for me and ended abruptly with no seeming link to the continuation of the main story and no resolution . Would heartily recommend this game but better to wait for the SG as the CE is not worth the money IMHO. June 15, 2012
Royal Detective: The Lord of Statues C.E This a nice game indeed.Very good graphics and the sounds plus the storyline was well done for this game.Only two setbacks that I encountered while playing the game.At times it would get slow when you move from a scene to another and sometimes the cursor would get stuck.Other than those two problems I have the say that the HOG's I found them very challenging which it's good I won't finish the game that quick.Storyline of this game I found it very easy going.Graphically I liked the CG's when the statues comes ''alive''.That was very really good.As for the bonus the extra story was short it didn't explain too much.It left some loose ends there...Royal Detective part 2?This a good game with the minor flaws and all.Very relaxing gameplay. cute little HO game This is based on the demo. I found the game really cute. The artwork is beautiful. I loved the little help guy Rupert. The story was intresting and had me from the very first. There are certain details with this game that I have never seen before. It had alot of action to the game with the story that I really liked. The only reason I am giving it a 4 star is because it was sluggish and glitchy. But other than that I liked this game. June 14, 2012
A different story line My review is based on the demo, and I have to say that though I don't think I will buy the CE, I will buy the SE when/if it comes out. The story line is a nice change from the usual macabre and kidnap scenario. The rooster and miner are enjoyable helpers and the map is fantastic. I hate back clicking a half dozen times to do one thing and the map lets you know where you can interact and takes you there. The art work is very nice and the music matches the mood. The only sound I found annoying was a little tinkling bell in otherwise quiet scenes. The HOS allow for additional interaction although a few scenes were a little blurry. The puzzles I thought were too easy, at least in the demo. But, overall, a pretty good game. June 14, 2012
A good game indeed, but too short to my liking The storyline of this game is really good, the graphics are gorgeous, the soundtrack never annoys, some of the puzzles are really tough - although others are too easy. At certain moments, the dev's burden the player with too many HOS one after another, which I really don't like. To me, this feels like a lack of inspiration. The HOS themselves contain sometimes objects that are really too hard to find. On the other hand, it must be said that the HOS are no junkpiles and that the hint button charges quite quickly, even in expert mode. A very positive and handy thing is the map, which not only shows you where you can execute a task, but also takes you there, or anywhere you wish to go to for that matter. All in all, this is a very good game. I only regret that it is rather short. And this is even more true for the bonus game which took me only half an hour to finish. I intend to replay the game just for the fun of it and to choose a different ending to see what will happen then. July 11, 2012
Great game and graphics Hated to see it end. Hoping to see a sequil. Maybe that's why the bonus game came up short. That's why I couldn't give this game five stars. Otherwise it would of easily been five stars. This had to be the shortest bonus game I've played. And it didn't tie into the storyline. But I would recommend buying this game. Just don't get your hopes up for an exciting bonus at the end. July 9, 2012
A "Nice" HO and puzzle game, didn't blow me away though If you want something not too strenuous in terms of HO and puzzles, good graphics / sound, and a story line that moves forwards at a reasonable pace - then I'd recommend this as a pretty good standard offering. [Review on CE] Visually pleasing and characters/ npcs that are great to interact with, and help draw you into the story. From the get go, I had a smile on my face when picking up a 'companion' that made me think "YEAH! Clash of the Titans - the original" (When you play the game/demo, and know the original film, you will know what I mean :) The story line worked well and took the end user somewhere. So much so, that I wanted to know what happens next after the ending, and was already thinking 'I must get the followup game if there is one.' A nice touch is that you have a choice at the end how to end the game, which is cool. I wish I could make a save and do one ending and then check out the other, without having to do the game over again. The "fast map" option to get to the next place of action, is a godsend for the game for speed and navigation. The map also helps hint at where you have actions available, useful if you just want a pointer and not a blatant instruction from the HINT button. I wasn't blown away and absorbed in the same way as I was with Dire Grove, so not scoring it as highly, but feel as though I got my money's worth. Looking for an easy going but decent HO puzzle game - this will do the job. June 15, 2012
