Witch Hunters: Stolen Beauty Collector`s Edition 3.7 5 101 101
Not the worst... nor the best! Angelica has its beauty and youth stolen by a witch, who was the director of the school of her grandmother. Pros: -Nice graphics, very detailed, colorful and crisp. -Several locations with a lot to do and to find. -Three levels of challenge. -To Collect (12 "snake key" during the game). -I liked the storyline, although it is usual tries to bring something new. Cons: -It takes too long loading, and cutscene in the beginning, the image appears and takes too long to display the writing (no VO). -Music does not match game's atmosphere. -Not challenging: mini games easy and very well known; HOS easy and... the interactive parts shine! Hint and skip button fill fast (even in advanced mode). -No map, no journal. -Lot of back and forth. The game itself is not very appealing, but I recommend the free trial! August 16, 2012
Witch Hunters : Stolen Beauty CE From the makers of "Lord of Mirrors" and the most recent "Queen of Death," comes a new [and hopefully fruitful] saga : Witch Hunters. The first installment, Stolen Beauty, follows in the footsteps of its predecessors with amazing art, atmosphere, and challenge. While not the most challenging thing in the world, the HO's have a couple "hidden items" and give you things which you will not find immediate use for. A simple story, but sure to be drawn out as you play young Angelica, whose beauty and youth has been stolen by a horrific witch who used to run a girl's school, leaving her old and haggard, but determined to seek out and gain her youth back. There are several side quests. Not only does Angelica want her youth back, but she meets old peers of her grandmother's, who went to the school generations ago, but are still hexed by the witch. You must search out a fair number of keys to a mysterious room, you must outwit the witch and use items in complicated ways. Mini-games may be familiar but often have a new twist. The hint button resets within seconds [on the easiest level.] These games are more about character and atmosphere than about puzzling you to death, which I think is nice. A five star game to be sure, yet I'll be waiting for the standard edition because I can buy two standard games for the price of one collector's game, and I love to deal. :D August 16, 2012
What Makes This A Collector's Edition? This is an okay game. No better than others. Same old thing. A witch, dark rooms, black swirling clouds. Lots of hidden object games and nice puzzles. Graphics are good. The reason I gave this game just two stars is you pay for a Collector's Edition, but there are NO extras. The price for this game should have been for a regular game. Wait until it comes out as a regular game and save yourself some bucks. August 17, 2012
This is a wonderful game (ignore the bad reviews) I wasn't going to write a review until I read some of the "ho hum" reviews some of the "expert" players were giving it. I completely disagree with those calling it the same old story. It is not: it is charming, challenging, and completely worth buying. The artwork is exquisite, with lots of HO scenes, in addition to puzzles and just plain old solving the mystery to determine where to go next. Each time we rescue someone, we gain a supernatural skill. I recall only one other game in the last few years that had this feature. I loved it and recommend it highly. I didn't use the strategy guide, so for those who are counting pennies, wait for the standard edition, although I found it too hard to wait. Have fun! August 17, 2012
I will wait for SE Version Based on the demo I got a strong case of deja vu playing this game. The storyline begins with a young girl's quest to find the Witch who has stolen her beauty and basically we are immersed into a HOPA game with 3 modes of gameplay, interactive HO s to play, mini-games to solve and 12 keys to collect. What we lack are voice overs, journal (although we do find pages of the diary), a map and what I like to call the extra bells and whistles like achievments or awards. Without all of the above, I cannot see this game qualify as a Collector's Edition. Although the Graphics are very good along with the artwork, gameplay was too simple and unfortunatley by the end of the very shor demo, I really had lost interest. This game is ideal for beginners and fans of HOgs; hardcore games will most likely feel let down. My recommendation is to wait for the SE and get a decent interactive game worth the price. Hmmm...... From the trial period demo I played this seems to be more of a lite adventure game with a few HOS sprinkled in for good measure. Hint system seemed to work very well during demo trial period it lead you in the proper direction or circled the action or object needed to continue the action. Cursor movement for me was a bit stiff but that shouldn't diminish any fun from the game. As far as story line it wasn't very engaging to me during the time I was able to play. I wasn't able to form any bond or really care about the story or the character. I didn't think the needed actions lead in a linear fashion either I had to use hints occasionally to know what direction or action to do next but maybe that's just me. LOL This is a beautifully made game, very well drawn in my opinion. I am intrigued to find out more about this game and read other reviews before I would consider purchasing. Please try the demo for yourself and decide. Best Wishes Everyone! August 16, 2012
Good Twist of the Wicked Witch Advanced mode. Not the most polished game, but I did enjoy the demo for about 40 minutes. Strategy guide did not help finding the last 2 numbers needed to open a door - being advised to try somewhere else isn't much help. But to be fair, it otherwise pointed you in the direction you needed to go. The hint system didn't take that long to recharge, even in advanced mode. Storyline was clever - different play on the evil witch. If you exit the game before the ending, you're asked if you really want to quit because Angelica hasn't recaptured her beauty - so I guess we know what the ending will be. HOS were clear, but not proportionate (e.g., a knife was much longer than the fairly large pillows on the sofa). Graphics were average (but I expect a lot). I'll wait for the SE because I really do expect more from a strategy guide in a CE. August 16, 2012
Instand buy !!! Played 30 minutes, Casual -3 modes, casual, advanced, expert - Integrated SG which only shows 2 chapters of the sample, couldn't turn the pages... - No voice overs - You've got to find 12 snake keys throughout the game - You have to find your hint button at the beginning of the game, it refills very quickly (casual) and tells you at least -outside H0- that you have nothing to do here... -Skip button - No note book (or I didn't find it !) - No map - H0 are clear, objects sometimes tiny and stuck at the bottom of the screen, you interact - Mini games not too difficult (only came across two in the 30 minutes I played) - Absolutely gorgeous graphics - Music a bit loud Interesting story, a witch stealing someone's youth... Didn't play the sample longer as I was dying to exit and buy so that the game would be mine, all mine !!!! August 16, 2012
Fun Exploration Game To add to previous review, I found the music suitably creepy for the storyline, and yes, there is a little lag in the text boxes for the beginning of the story, but you can click to speed it up somewhat. I beleive there is more to the story that what I reviewed in my hour of gameplay, but I was exploring quite a bit. No, the puzzles were not hard or spectacularly original, and I did see areas where you could use "special" powers of somekind, but I didn't make it that far in the story. Lesson here... never walk away from a timed game to answer the phone without pausing - darn! Strategy guide has two chapters in it, so I believe that is the extent of the demo, no map yet, no journal, but you do collect pages for a journal. Suggestion for players - mouse over everything in the closeup scenes - lots of stuff can be hidden in those. I liked it. August 16, 2012
Not as bad as I thought I have only played the demo version so here is my review based on that. As previously stated there are no voice overs. You have to read the conversations which really doesn't bother me that much. The graphics were good-no live actors. The music really didn't fit the story. It seemed too upbeat for a game about a witch. The story isn't really original, the HO were clear-not cluttered. The mini-games were fun-not overly original. All in all it's really not a bad game. Will I purchase it as a CE-maybe not, but I will purchase the SE. August 16, 2012
