Definitely not for me OK if you require constant direction on what to do and when but if like me you like to devlop your own strategy you probably won't like this. My advice - try one hour free trial first if you're in doubt as it was enough for me to know I'd be wasting my money on this one. April 13, 2013
Westward To be fair, I only played the one hour trial. I was prompted to try this game by all of the positive reviews from other BFG gamers, so obviously some people loved it. In sum, if you like games like "Westward" give this one a shot. It is a story driven plot, with a barely there time-management aspect. Gather resources, build sawmills, etc. - that said the game isn't a "My Kingdom, etc." type of game; it is piloted more by fulfilling "mini-quests." Not horrible; not exciting. March 6, 2013
LovedIt!!! If you like building games...this is the one...The graphics are a lot better than other TM. However, the challenges depends on the individual's talent. I played the game for days...even then replayed...I found most of the hidden secrets...this is what I liked best...If you look to long u lose your chance of collecting the gold medal. I am looking forward to a number TWO!!! January 26, 2013
Frustrating & Insulting In More Than One Way I read the good reviews and decided to give the trial a go but I won't be buying the game. To start, the premise itself is a fine but how it plays out is extremely iffy -- you're playing the conquistadors and I'm honestly surprised, given the genocidal history involved, that the story involves both the Spaniards and Unnamed Cliche Native Tribe. The latter of which are, for some reason, happy to stand around and watch you not only develop on land they also seem to live on but do things like smash jars behind their houses and take the gold. But I've ignored iffy premises before (we probably all have) and the problems with the gameplay itself far overshadow the questionable ethics. 1. While there's tasks you have to complete to meet the goals there's side quests you also have to do (I tried to skip one since it wasn't in the objectives & it didn't end well). Thus you're constantly working on a task that might not be best for the resources you currently have even though you usually can skip side quests in such games. 2. The game simultaneously tries to hold your hand and steers you to destruction. Besides the constant stream of tasks you have to do it won't let you repair things out of the order it deems necessary even when you have the resources and they're the same buildings. I.e. there's two damaged watchtowers nearby and you have to do the east one before the west one to the point the west one won't even become available until you've done four additional tasks. Yet, the game gives you advice ("You should build more gardens so that you don't run out of food.") that you either can't actually use (more on that in #3) or that's counterproductive. It suggested I do that and since I was running low on food I did -- only I accidentally built a garden on top of a random patch I later realised was meant to be a stone quarry. Thus, I did not have a stone quarry when I needed one. You can't demolish buildings if you make such a mistake and must start the day over. 3. One of the major points of advice is that the buildings lose efficiency after a while so you need to upgrade them. Yet (and I had to Google this) you can't upgrade them until the fourth level/day. Before that you merely have to keep building more of the same building type in what's a very limited building space. It will also direct you to use resources on tasks that you won't find useful for a while -- and it won't let you do other tasks until you complete that one. Yet you may need those resources for more immediately useful tasks. Oh well, too bad! 4. Finally, you can't save days in progress. Since each day takes a while -- 20-30 minutes seem to be right on the least task heavy levels -- you stand to lose a notable amount of gameplay because of this. There are a lot of ways that games like this can trigger pet peeves but I think this one goes beyond that to actively bad gameplay. Apparently there's others who enjoy it, according to their reviews, but I wouldn't bother trying it. There's many games of this type and most of the recent ones are better than this. November 8, 2012
try before bying GP56 already said practically everything I wanted to say about that game. I usually enjoy time management games but this one was awful. Boring, illogical and actually irritating. I think I played for about 20 min - could not endure more than that. That does not mean it is not perfect for somebody else, but I am glad I tried it before paying money for that game. Definitely going to avoid that trilogy. October 30, 2012
Poor Building directions! The game won't allow you to demolish abandoned buildings; and since you can't upgrade any of them it's the pits. October 23, 2012
Almost a five star except for the cavemen. LOL I enjoyed the game. Reminds me of My Tribe and such, but I got tired of waiting to be told that I needed to do something obvious, not being able to demolish buildings that were no longer needed to reclaim land and resources and the cavemen. Oy. It was fun, and I bought it and played it all the way through. Just wish some things were less annoying about it. September 30, 2012
Fun if it was the 1980s This game is very dated, It reminds me graphicly of Legend of Zelda, very blocky small graphics. I dont see the fun being lead around the screen "discovering" one thing at a time. If you are a true fan of strategy games like Age of Empires, The Promised Land, or Star Craft this is nothing like them. October 17, 2012
Interesting game Usually I don't like these type of building games because micro-managing is not fun IRL or in game form. This has proven to the be the exception for me. While my crew of workers do the day-to-day tasks, I'm still left to make sure they're on top of things (pick more berries, build another garden) and work on the various quests. Things I didn't like about the game are no mention of how to upgrade buildings, then only allowed to upgrade buildings when certain levels are completed. The Watchtowers don't really seem to defend against cavemen. Yes, I said cavemen. They're in the game too. You still have to click on the caveman to run him back to his cave. This can be annoying when you're in the middle of finishing up a quest. The caveman will destroy buildings. Graphics are okay. The music is wonderful. I've actually searched out more Spanish guitar music to listen to thanks to this game. Political correctness: Not so much. But you know what? That's okay too. History happened. We need to understand and remember history so we know what went wrong. Yeah, my modern self has issues with the game. I've lost out on finding secrets because I haven't deforrested an entire area to oblivion. Then I remember, oh wait these are pixel trees and not real trees. Sure I'll help you, but wait here while I'll steal your gold and destroy your pottery first. It can be tough to swallow through our modern eyes. Does this game glorify what happened in history? I don't think so. Scrubbing our past clean and sanitizing it for our protection does more harm. September 25, 2012
boring No room for independent thinking. Just have to do what you are told, follow the instructions kind of game. I couldn't even get through the free one hour trial. September 20, 2012
