Monopoly 3.3 5 54 54
Pretty true to the original board game A nice update to a familiar game. You are allowed from two to four players and can make all of the players human, though you would have to take turns at the screen to play. You can play with standard rules or select from several customized settings. There is also an option for Sleight of Hand, which allows you to use several tricks once each during the game. You can use trick dice to select a roll from 3-11 to ensure you land on a specific place, which is particularly useful if you are trying to get a monopoly or avoid an expensive property. Property Grab gives you a single "improvement" for free (one house or one hotel). Rent dodge allows you to pay only half of the rent on a property you land on. Each can only be used once, so use them carefully. There are different difficulty levels, which I assume relates to the play of computer players. Easy will make them pushovers when it comes to making deals, while hard makes them more cutthroat. The graphics are quite nice. You can click a button to roll, or pick them up with your mouse and shake them like real dice. I've come to enjoy the battleship going bankrupt just to watch the graphics "sink" the ship. Each piece moves around the board as it would if real. Some hop, some roll, and the dog scampers with sound effects including the jingling of tags on a dog's collar. If the dog wins, it gets up on its hind legs and dances. The animations might not be a good idea for someone who gets dizzy easily, as the board can spin a lot, though the animations can be turned off in the options. If you hate to lose, you can set everything to human and hand yourself the game. You can give yourself all other properties and money while giving nothing in return. Some might call this blasphemy, but others might like this. If you sell a property, though, you should make sure that you sell off the houses first, as they will disappear when sold. There is a lot of clicking to the game, but it remains true to the original board game. Three rolls of doubles will send you to jail. The cards are the same as I remember, and it has the original street names rather than the new ones. It has the same pieces as the original and none of them are lost! The graphics can sometimes cover up parts of the board you want to see. You have to click every time to select if the tutorial should be on or off, which can become a nuisance. It would be better to have that in the options or game setup. It will remember the previous House Rules you select, but you have to reselect the pieces for every game and Sleight of Hand every time you open the game. Still, it's overall a great game. Great version of classic board game Unlike some others I really enjoy the game. I found the hard mode to be very challenging when playing with 4. I love the way the pieces move on the board. I also appreciate the way they kept to the original game. Graphics are terrific as well as the sounds. Really love it! September 20, 2012
Sooo much fun I love this game. I've been playing it for the last 5 hours straight. Unless you have a lot of trouble with motion sickness I can't see that you would have any problems, I didn't. September 23, 2012
Positive and negative aspects to this game. I was rather excited when I saw Monopoly come available. I have before played electronic versions of this game on consoles and I enjoyed them greatly, so when this PC version came available I immediately downloaded and played. I have to say though, I was disappointed mainly for two reasons. The screen in constantly moving and there is no option to turn it off. The spinning gives me a sense of vertigo which upsets my stomach after a very short time. The second feature I didn't care for is that play is choppy because you have to click on every single action. Where you might click to shake dice is a different place then where you might click to end your turn for example. All this said, there are some great features to the game also. You have option to change rules to your liking. You get to play the original game we all love without fear of losing any pieces, you dont have to count out cash it does it for you and you can still play with friends and family given the option of up to 4 players. Fun! I love this game.. I enjoy this version just as much as I do the real deal. I find this much better than trying to play on a game console. Every game has it's little ticks and things that I don't like but in this case they are not enough to put me off. Fun! September 21, 2012
Monopoly Found it to be an easy fun game that brought back many times playing as a young person. Fast and easy. September 21, 2012
This Game Is A Classic With A Upgrade! Loved it! The animation was the best part and it was easy to understand! Hours of fun September 22, 2012
monoply for everyone i found this very good as it transfered the american names into english streets and railway stations September 20, 2012
Monopoly always a favorite I loved it. I didn't realize the turning around the board was a problem. That surprised me by some of the reviewers. It's a great game. Playing with a computer is challenging enough. Trying playing in "Hard"mode and see if you don't yell at your screen. Great game! September 20, 2012
Highly Recommend! Downloaded this about 6 weeks ago, and I think I've played over 30 times. I'm absolutely sure there are more productive ways I should be spending my time, but it's seriously addicting. The games last from 1-2 hours, similar to the original game. It's fantastic- realistic rendering of everything from the board to the tokens to overall gameplay. The animations are really entertaining and don't detract from the "feel" of the original game at all. I started playing a couple games on the Easy level, played a couple on Medium, then have been playing Hard ever since. My only criticism is that once you play the computer several times, you start picking up on some of the flaws in its decision-making, and it becomes fairly easy to win on a regular basis. I think the game stats say I've been winning about 80+% of the games on the Hard level. Fortunately, there are a couple game Options which make it a little more challenging. Overall really impressed with this game. These guys spent a lot of time creating it, and it's incredibly entertaining! My one wish if they ever make any modifications would be for them to add a "Professional" difficulty level that would consider several other factors in some of its decision-making (e.g. sometimes it's ok to massively overpay for a property during auction/trade if it puts you at a tactical advantage or prevents your opponent from gaining a tactical advantage). I'm giving "Level of Challenge" 3 stars only because I've probably been playing way too much and mostly have the AI's strategy figured out. After you've played several 1-on-1 games, a better challenge is to play against 2 or 3 AI opponents. It gets a little more unpredictable. Love it. December 8, 2012
