Great First Half - Did they get tired of making the game half way through? I enjoyed the first half of this game when the HO scenes were different from the long list of the usual find the glove and butterfly variety, but half way thru the game they started mixing in the "list" HO scenes and soon were using them to death like many games do to fill in time so the game appears longer. The animals in the first half were a bit silly but added a different element to the game that kept it interesting. Again however, about half way thru the game they seemed to only add the animals on rare occasion and for very brief interactions. While I don't mind games a bit on the shorter side, I hate when they add tons of HO scenes towards the end just so, as I said before, the game seems longer. All in all, in my opinion, I think this game is worth playing, but had I known the typical HO scenes would be smothering me half way thru the game and it would turn into the "same old, same old", I would have waited for the SE. Outstanding, Original, Funny, all good-if not for bonus play Based on completed game in casual mode. There is so much to love about this game. From the beginning it was hilarious to see some of the wack-a-doodle stunts that involved a cigar store Indian, a kangaroo, and, well, you will see for yourself if you decide to give it a try. Looking at the artwork and description I avoided buying this game for a while thinking it to be dark and dreary - not so. True the backdrop is an abandoned, unkempt facility, but game play is lighthearted and funny throughout. This game is absolutely original, unique, and lots of fun so why not full 5 stars? -Well toward the end it seemed as if they were phoning it in with hastily thrown together junk pile HOS that had not been part of the early game. Bonus play was literally clogged with these tedious, junk pile scenes that sucked the fun right out. As a SE I'd give it 5+ Stars, but as a CE, I can only give 4 Stars. The details: Portable Lab: The gamer is given a laboratory kit used periodically during game play that I found to be pretty fun. The kit is pretty fancy so it's good that there are clear instructions whenever it is needed. Journal: Yes, but reference only Map: No, not really needed. Game is by chapter and forward moving. HOS: Throughout most of the game I enjoyed the HOS as there was a good balance and they were well thought out, clever, and humorous. Sometimes there were shapes to find, at others there was the more traditional list of items with some interaction, but no junk pile until nearing end of game. Towards the end the HOS became more frequent, were junk-pile in style, less interactive, and didn't seem well considered. Bonus play was clogged with so many of these densely packed, non-interactive, junk-pile HOS that even though the storyline was still engaging, the game became tedious and just not fun. Mini-Games: I had fun with the mini-puzzles throughout - there were original and some we have seen before, but all in keeping with the "Abandoned Laboratory, crazy Professor" Motif. They varied in level of difficulty and had a tongue in cheek style about them. Sparkles: Something else to love about this game - Even in casual mode the winks and glints are discrete leaving the gamer in peace to view each new scene without distraction. Lastly - The evil scientist/professor was classic from his arched eyebrows to his menacing laugh and sinister threats. I looked forward to each of his appearances. What a great bad guy. The voice overs were pretty good and I appreciated the pop up dialogue that required a click to move on. Great game - a must play for those who like the unique and humorous. I congratulate the team that developed this game for a job well done! December 4, 2012
Original and surprising Game The team who build it made a supplementary effort in the whole game. There's two type of HOS, the regular one and (I would say) an adventure type, where you have task to do in the scene. Minigame may be boaring for advance user but are perfect for intermedairy gamer. The animation is surprising, I've been suprise of some deroulement of the game, in a funny way So I'll buy it, without hesitation, and recommend it also without hesitation September 27, 2012
Very good game A really good game. Good length of main game and interesting bonus chapter. Graphics good and storyline gripping. Good HOS and puzzles although not overly challenging, they did make u think. The only downside for me was about 3/4 of the way through the game; In order to get the items you needed, the number of HOS seemed to increase, it was almost like the devs ran out of steam at that point and its something I really dislike in a game. Apart from that really enjoyed it overall! September 29, 2012
Nothing New here Since I own both of the previous Haunted Halls games, and have played each one several times, I was looking forward to this one. What new and bizarre tricks does Dr. Blackmore have up his sleeve this time, I wondered. Not that much, it turned out. Good graphics, good sound, so-so puzzles and HOS. Started the game back at his original sanitarium, with an assortment of nasty instruments, along with some cute animals. Huh? Then, to add insult to injury, the boyfriend Tim, in a condescending and bored tone of voice, apologized to his girlfriend (you, the game player) for getting her into a mess with Dr. Blackmore yet again. He did not sound sorry at all! If you've never played any Haunted Halls games before, this one would probably be fun. But for me, it was same 'ole, same 'ole. I recommend this game for those who have never played Haunted Halls games before. October 7, 2012
Just too predictable I love ERS games. I've always depended on them for a great gaming experience, and part of that experience was not always know what was coming next. Don't look for that in this game. Everything went step-by-step just like it ought to. If you needed a paint roller, the next hidden object scene would have one. If you needed to fix a ladder, the boards and bolts were just around the corner. It was a bit boring. The music was bland, the voice-overs were adequate, and the dumb, helpless boyfriend was just too much to take. In the bonus play, he's even too wimpy to help you escape!!! I hope the developers don't end the SE of the game where the CE ended. There is a better spot for an ending just a few scenes into the bonus play. The bonus play is just as predictable and boring as the rest of the game. Puzzles were typical and didn't present too much of a challenge even for me, and I am ordinarily horrid at puzzles and rely on the skip button. I didn't really feel like I'd accomplished much of anything with the puzzles in this game. All in all - disappointing, predictable, a bit boring. October 1, 2012
Same story, different title. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess..." really? He doesn't sound like someone about to be blown up, or in extreme danger. He sounds bored. I would have been telling her to get the heck out of here! I have the other two Haunted Hall games and really liked them. The graphics and game play are as expected from ERS, exceptional. Music is old and boring. HOGs, I like the silhouette stuff, but a little goes a very long way and gets very old very quickly. Needed to mix it up. Games are very simple. I am not kicked out about this game, but I liked it well enough to buy it...mostly because I already have the others in the series (I know, stupid reason to spend $15). All in all, this one doesn't quite live up to the first two, but hopefully the next one will be far better, if there is another in the works. Make up your own mind and go from there. Thanks for the reviews. September 27, 2012
Dr. Blackmore, I Presume! My first encounter with Haunted Halls was Green Halls Sanitarium and then Fears From Childhood. Eerie, weird and spooky sci-fi themed HOPA, ERS Devs pull out all the stoppers in terms of allowing their imaginations to run wild. I just recently finished the 2nd in series--"Fears from Childhood" and had a sneaking suspicion we'd be seeing Dr. Blackmore again. This 3rd in series is kinda the same, yet different and I would like to see ERS retire Dr. Blackmore hereafter or get this guy some serious treatment. At this point, more interested and curious to see what other mind-bending, twisted, macabre, bazaar, freakish ideas ERS yet have up their sleeves for us hungry BFG Fishies. Enjoy! - Mama Mia - September 27, 2012
Another Great Haunted Halls! This is another great sequel of the Haunted Halls series. I've only played the demo but so far it hasn't disappointed me. All of the Haunted Halls games have been graphically beautiful along with good background music and voice overs. A very realistic game to play that makes you feel as if you are really involved. A unique thing is introduced in this game like the portable lab to concoct various potions you need to use and the HO scenes were fun to do by finding the items by the silhouettes but then also using them in the scene. This feature I have seen before but has not been used alot in the various HO games. The puzzles have not been too difficult but a little different and a little challenging. I think I'll enjoy playing the whole game soon! September 27, 2012
Another Great Chapter in This Series I really enjoy the Haunted Halls games and I was delighted to see a new one! This one is a continuation of the previous games but can be played on its own, if you haven't played the others yet. The basic plotline is the same, the narrator needing to save other people from a psycho "Doctor" so she can save her husband. There's sci/fi-ish and mystical elements to the game, but they're not absurdly overwhelming. A nifty new part to this game is the chemical kit you get, where you can make chemicals used (usually) to fight hallucinations. The chemical process is a bit time consuming but is kind of fun, I really enjoyed it. My favorite part of the games in this series is the design of the Hidden Object scenes. Unlike most other scenes in HO games, in this game if you return to a HO scene, the items you found previously are no longer there to confuse you! I love that. I hate going back to a HO scene and being distracted by "wait, a horseshoe? Didn't I already find that here?" or, worse, "That doll is in my inventory, why is it back in this scene??" The artwork is terrific, the music a bit monotonous but not horribly enough that I turned it off. I give this game my full thumbs up. October 10, 2012
