Mostly great fun This game reminds me a little of an old DOS game called Populous that I had years ago and played for hours. The graphics and animation are a delight. I did find it a bit annoying that the character had to return to base camp after every action and that the game and some of the levels were very short but, overall, it was enjoyable. . April 4, 2013
Northen tale upgrage need more challenging levels including end point when wrong decision is made along the path April 1, 2013
good fun great game nice length of game February 7, 2013
Thoroughly enjoyable strategy game and a nice challenge. Lovely graphics and similar gameplay to a number of other strategy games like Island Tribe and My Kingdom for The Princess but with a few unique twists of its own. A few levels are quite challenging. Overall I really liked and enjoyed playing this game and look forward to a followup game 2. January 30, 2013
Great little game This one is thoroughly enjoyable, even if it becomes a bit repetitious. The musical score, sound effects and graphics are all top-notch. I appreciated the fact that it was *not* a time management game mislabelled as a strategy game, since so many of Big Fish offerings are. More Northern Tales please! January 14, 2013
Addictive gameplay This is a "road building" TM game like My Kingdom for the Princess or Roads of Rome. (This seems to be from the same developer as RoR, which I've always liked more than MKftP) At first glance, the graphics appear to have taken a step back from others in the genre, but it grew on me very quickly. When you have so many different objects (obstacles, structures, resources, etc.) on the screen at the same time, it's nice to have really clean, clear visuals to plot your strategy for the level. I also liked the Viking theme. I'm pretty neurotic about getting an expert score on every level and in the first chapter, I found myself repeating levels as early on as 5 or 6, which led me to think the game was going to be difficult. I had an easier go of it in the second chapter though, so I think I was just overly aggressive in upgrading my buildings and that's why I had problems. At the core, you only have two types of decisions to make in this game: the order of upgrading/exploration, and the type of bonus to use. Because of the number of choices you can make, though, you end up with a lot of strategies. A lot of satisfaction in the game comes from adjusting your strategy to improve your time. (It is so nice to finish JUST as the timer starts blinking to indicate that you're about to go over the expert time) I usually don't pay much attention to the story for this genre, but I liked this one! You have to rescue your daughters from an evil sorceress called Gesta who has kidnapped and transformed them into other forms. She has also blighted the land and they do a nice job in short dialogue of making her feel like an active antagonist. She seems especially involved in the final level where she summons monsters to oppose you and even battles you at the end! No exciting new minigames or game mechanics, but a very solid, well-balanced and well-designed TM game overall. January 5, 2013
Can't Wait for Sequel Unlike many games, this is fun to play over and over. You are challenged to beat expert time as well as yourself. You can try many strategies to try to beat the level, i.e., which obstacles to get rid of first or which resources to gather first. Analogous to Theory of Constraints in business. Cute graphics but not girlie. Whole family likes it regardless of age. January 5, 2013
Loved Viking Tale!! Best.Game.Ever!! I couldn't stop playing! December 31, 2012
My Favorite Time Management Game This is a great little game. Pushes you to finish and definitely is not a given you will get three stars every level. The levels get very challenging and make you think about which approach will get you there fastest. December 20, 2012
Northern Tale - The Best This is one of the best games I have played, everything about it is great , extremely good graphics and good fun. December 7, 2012
