Disappointing Cumbersome. Storyline tiresome. Nothing intuitive in finding clues or where to go next. Boring dialog that cannot be skipped. Very slow loading one screen to the next. I am a huge MCF fan - but this was a huge disappointment. Should not have spent the money on the collector's edition. January 20, 2013
Not a great game This game has outstanding graphics and sound--Unfortunately thats about all it has going for it. January 18, 2013
Not really CE material -- Lack of puzzle variety I might recommend MCF Shadow Lake as an SE, but not as a CE. It doesn't really have a bonus game -- only the "opportunity" to hunt around the game for 50 morphing items after you find a special mask. Also the strategy guide only shows you pictures of what to do in your current location and a walkthrough is more useful. The most interesting part of the game IMO was in the two video cassettes that you find. It would have been a lot more interesting to be ghosthunting along with all the ghosthunters. Instead you only follow Cassandra's instructions, which repeat the same pattern over and over: A new area becomes available so you go there. Soon afterward Cassandra phones you with a list of objects to find at that location, which blocks your view while you're trying to explore different rooms. Once you've found everything, Cassandra calls you and you have to return to the motel, where Cassandra gives you 6 drawings of pieces of things that you have to match to some place or some thing in the game. Once you find where all the drawings match, Cassandra calls you back to the motel and you have to "do a reading." This obnoxious "reading" puzzle was obviously created by someone who was overly enamored of a physics engine. The puzzle is a sort of moving picture divided into squares that rotate and float around and you have to reassemble it. You have to grab the pieces with your mouse and coax them into position so they'll snap together. The dratted things don't always move as you expect them to, and gravity is not your friend when the pieces are shuffled up because you can't pick up a piece from the bottom until you remove all the pieces on top of them. So you try to pick one up and it turns over instead -- or goes the wrong direction and bumps the piece you want to match it with so you have to go chasing that one too. Very fiddly puzzle -- and you have to repeat this puzzle for each location you visit. Some of my puzzles malfunctioned. Some puzzles have random solutions and the game is supposed to give you clues to match your solution. But the numbers in the clues in my game wouldn't solve the puzzle, while the walkthrough had totally different clues which DID solve the puzzle. January 11, 2013
why bother I have all the games and have enjoyed them. This is the most dissapionted I have been with a game. Why not wait and put out a good game. BIG FISH, WHY!!!!!!!!! January 11, 2013
Kind of wish I didn't spend the money for it. The visuals and story line are good, but the level of challenge and fun factor are to say the least weak. With Ravenhurst, Return to Ravenhurst, and Diregrove, they gave me much more of a challenge than this one did. It was nice to have a "partner" in this, but it seemed to take up much more time than going out and solving the case. The acting was okay... but I think it was too over the top when completing each reading and in the ending. And for the credits, where is the skip button? To also add, I can't get the bonus game open, and I don't know how to. I have looked in the forums, and I can't find anything to help me. Sad to say, I really wish I didn't buy this game. Even though I do love the series, I would not recommend this game, even to a diehard fan to this series. January 7, 2013
Disappointing and confusing MCF entry Some good thoughts went into the development of this game, but not quite enough. Not visually interesting. The main acting of the psychic was too average - neither believable nor over-the-top enough (the Ghost Patrol pair on camera were just right though). The mechanics of the CE morphing objects was confusing since the puzzles to enact them weren't needed to complete the game. The inability to stop the credits was annoying. Well the bar is now set pretty low - the next MCF entry should be a slam dunk. January 4, 2013
MCF Let-Down This last installment of MCF will probably be my last - the story line has gone completely downhill and the strategy guide is a joke. January 3, 2013
So Disappointed The MCF games are my all time favorite games. This one was very disappointing. There was no challenge, held your hand way to much, was too linear and repetitive. Where's the rich puzzles that make you think? The fun of exploring that MCF is known for? January 2, 2013
didn't live up to other Mystery Case Files games the parts with the actress were painful, designers wasted money paying Lea T for this roll. Not a fan. I was expecting more along the lines of challenges/mini games from Ravenshurst series and was disappointed. January 1, 2013
excellent this game is great. I haven't finished the game, but so far its been very enjoyable. Nice visuals and sound quality and the use of the hidden object sceens are nice change. I would recommend this game January 1, 2013
