Best Of The Series! (full rating 3 1/2) I must admit, I didn't really see myself playing out the demo of this game, but I did! It's definitely the best of the series! (based on demo) Good Parts: Storyline kept getting better and better as the game went on. By the end of the demo I wanted more! HOS I loved. They were awesome, and a great challenge. Great graphics, Excellent voice-overs. Strategy guide included, but had to go to menu to access it. Long time gameplay guarenteed. By the end of the first hour I hadn't even finished chapter 1. OK Parts: Ouzzles. I had to skip most of them, but there were a few I enjoyed. Game started off a little boring. Bad Parts: Hint and skip take too long to recharge. At times in the game I found it hard to figure out what to do next. A lot of going back and forth. I nearly wanted to buy this game, but there were some things holding me back. Overall a really good game, though. November 12, 2012
Really?... What happened?... I can hardly believe how much I disliked like this game. A huge disappointment. What's going on Boomzap? Writer's block? To the point. The storyline. If you can even call it a storyline, plot, what have you, well, it was absolutely awful! Boring is almost to generous a word. It was practically nonexistent. There wasn't any substance to it. So much so that... Death Upon an Austrian Sonata?... The title hardly makes sense. Admittedly I have only played demos of the first two Dana Knightstone games, and while interesting I found them a bit dated. But loved the more adventure geared gameplay. My problem is mostly because one of my all time favorite games, Otherworld, combined with the Awakening series have kept me on a constant lookout for more from Boomzap. This game played much like the others from the games mentioned above. Pleasant, relaxing gameplay, wonderful graphics, lots of puzzles, new and old, but always fun, and leaned more toward the adventure/puzzle side rather than an HO game. But this game lacked a story. Big Time. I was so bored with it that I lost interest within the first quarter of the game and had to push my way through the rest. I was looking forward to a rather easy adventure/puzzle game with an immersive story with interesting/friendly characters to relax too. Didn't get it. I can't even remember what the bonus chapter was about. So it probably isn't meaningful enough alone to go for the CE unless you like wallpapers etc. An easy game is nothing without story and characters you enjoy. While it may appeal to younger players, it's definitely not for me. For those who like to know like me, game length was decent enough I guess. It timed me at a little over 5 hours, but I also let it sit unpaused on a number of occasions, and the extra chapter put it all at a total a bit over 7 hours. Try the demo (I didn't), if story is important to you. See if it catches your attention. I recommend this game only to those who can deal with a weak story and charactors you probably won't connect with. November 22, 2012
A great game They worked hard on this one, at first I thought it was gonna be another old game, blablabla, but no it was fresh and interesting the HO were well done and the graphics excellent, not very creepy but some good rewards and interesting scenes. November 10, 2012
death upon an austrian sonata, a dana kingstone novel collectors edition excellent game full of intrigue , wonderful graphics and interesting characters , very good hidden object scenes not the usual boring find the object but somewhat more fun , this game for me ranks top of my list so far and i highly recommend this game , well done boom zap ,only one grumble i lost my hammer in the bonus play ,so could not finish game completely November 9, 2012
Meh. Too short, too easy. I wasn't impressed. The graphics were okay and the story line, (while cheesy, was fine, the puzzles were not at all challenging except when they didn't work quite right. There were several times where I knew I was supposed to do something specific, for example, shoot the arrow at the figurine, but I had to try moving the crossbow into the right place about 6-7 times before it would work. More importantly, I played the "Advanced" version and the game took less than 4 hours to complete. That's way too easy and quick in my opinion. There were (I think) six chapters, but they all went really fast, and I get the feeling that it wouldn't have gone much more quickly even if I'd played the "Hardcore" level. I've liked the other Dana Knightstone games, but I wish I would have given this one a pass. Not worth it. December 3, 2012
Amazing Experience! This is a MUST BUY! I like this game so much! Its very different from the other Dana Knightstone games. It has more action and adventure going on for Dana. The gameplay is very logical and clever. Things made sense. Its a good breather from those dark games these days thats filled with monsters and wolves where there's always someone abducted. Its not a very very difficult game. Just right difficulty for me. The hidden object screens are very interactive. The graphics is very clear and sharp. The characters are also very pretty and very well drawn. The Voiceover in this game is also well done. I recommend this game for people who wants something different. Thank you Boom Zap for another wonderful game! Please make more! This game is a sure buy for me! November 10, 2012
AWESOME AND AWESOME AGAIN !!!! This is a beautiful game with hauntingly beautiful graphics, music and storyline. Long playing time. Many different locations. Fun puzzles (and I'm not a puzzle person). Great HO'S that were interactive and varied and NOT teeny tiny. Kudos to Boom Zap for a wonderful game. February 27, 2013
FULL CE Review - Good Mixture of Adventure and HOS This review is for the full Collector's Edition as well as the Bonus Content. I'm a true Adventure gamer, and less of a fan of HOS or HOG's, but I found this game to have the right mix of each. The HOS's were spaced evenly throughout the game, and were not just dimly lit junk piles, but very selective items placed in decent lighting. All HOS's required some interaction for at least a portion of the objects. There were puzzles and games to acquire needed objects, but most were mid-level challenging, and ranged from rotating rings, organizing musical notes in the right order to repairing a fog machine and serving coffee. (Not all are as simple as they might sound) As for the adventure itself, it was pretty straightforward, with a minimal amount of back and forth collecting objects. (At least, compared to hardcore adventure games) Items that you needed were typically presented in a fairly logical and sequential order - meaning you weren't holding something you found early in the game, but don't use it until the very last second of the game. (once again - that is typical with a true adventure game) I have no complaints over the graphics or sound - they were good quality, though not the highest I've ever seen. The most irritating thing for me was the ghost (Elise or Luthier or whomever) They would appear - you'd click... click... Oh! Yes! I see they want me to notice something... click... click... ghost goes away... click... click... FINALLY I can click on what I'm supposed to be looking at. Other than that - zero complaints. I found that sometimes I was so busy looking for a complex way of doing something that I'd overlooked the simplest way to get what I wanted. (Like... that mirror... in the other part of the train... *smacks forehead*) Hints - useful without too much hand holding. BONUS REVIEW: unlike many CE's that leave the SE with a choppy and abrupt ending, and begin with a Bonus game that reeks of laziness, this Bonus game content had several new scenes to visit and explore, as well as several items to collect, puzzles to crack, and one final mystery to solve. Everything was fluid and cohesive, and was a nice side story to the main game. Bonus game took about 45 minutes, maybe an hour. (I was sleepy-tired by the end and used a lot of hints) Overall, this was a VERY enjoyable game. For those that don't like the macabre or supernatural, this game will be fine for you - ghost and all, as there is no spooky element - it's more of a lost love/romance scenario. This was my first Dana Knightstone game, but will not be my last. December 26, 2012
Too easy and over rated The graphics were okay but hardly compares to other games I have played, though they were beautiful. The game was too easy but would be good for beginners. The most challenging were some of the puzzles, but the next puzzle would be for a beginner. The HOS were generally very good and fun. This game would be a good introductory game for the newbies. just wonderful thank you BF for the bundle opportunity! I almost passed, sure glad I did'nt! I never played the first 2 games, so I looked them up and read the reviews and decided to try . these games are beautiful . major eye-candy! wonderful HOPAs I think they intricated every type of mini game / puzzle I've ever come across and some are in the HO scenes. very clever, absolutely loved it, but I'm a huge fan of the mini games and puzzles. loved the storylines , keep you thouroughly entranced. hint button though rarely needed tells you what to do next limited running back and forth in each scene then off to the next [new] scene. good narration and voice overs not too much talking in fact didnt need to skip it like in some games [cant shut em up lol] thanks again big fish for the bundle, hope alot of people took advantage of it. these games stay in my keeper file. happy gaming!
