Heavy on Adventure, Heavy on Fun
Forbidden Secrets: Alien Town (Adventure/IHOG)
I've been waiting for this to show up, and had to download as soon as I saw it.
There are separate sliders for music, sound effects, and ambient sounds, as well as options for desktop resolution (from 800x600 to 1920x1080), full screen, widescreen, and custom cursor, plus you can view the credits from the options screen.
The opening scene is long and amazing. You could skip it, but you're really going to be missing something if you do! I actually started a new profile so that I could concentrate on the graphics and all of the amazing nuances the artists added. Beautifully done!
Upon the completion of the opening scene, you can choose between Casual and Expert modes. The tutorial is optional. The journal contains extra story (happy day!), and the HINT button refills in either 30 seconds or 1 minute, depending on which difficulty mode you choose.
Our inventory bar retracts when not in use, allowing us an even better view of the gorgeous graphics. Try clicking on random items - some will react, making the scenes even more interactive.
As a mini-game, we have 40 Beyond (morphing) Objects to find throughout gameplay. Love having this kind of extra in my games!
Using a HINT during the adventure portion of the game will either point out something of interest, or if there's nothing to do in that location, will open the map and highlight the location where there is something to do. The MAP has the jump-to option, something I'm sure those who don't like to-ing and fro-ing are celebrating over. ;) The map even shows which locations have a Beyond Object you've not found yet, and it's a good thing, for it's easy to get so wrapped up in the story that you forget to look for those objects.
There are interactive hidden object scenes, and the list shows four to eight items-to-find at any given time. At the top of the list, it shows how many items there are to find in that location, total. Some of the scenes are mostly interaction, making it seem more like these scenes are mini-games. (Nice!) There are also times when you have items to put back into the scene -- yet another aspect adding to the feeling of the HOS being minis. There is NO misclick penalty in Casual mode - not sure about in Expert mode.
There are a few mini-games that depend on reflexes (Oh no! Whack-an-alien!), but all (actual) minis are skippable.
I have to take a moment to return to the graphics. I found the devs' attention to detail breathtaking. I wasn't in love the the scenes where we talk to characters (I tended to click through them as soon as I read the text), but the cutscenes and all of the locations, etc. were amazing. Tiny dust motes floating in the air, dancing shadows, gusts of wind, the drizzling of the rain... All of the little touches that the devs added make this a work of art, rather than just another game. I haven't seen so much attention paid to nuances in the graphics since Classic Adventures: The Great Gatsby. I'll play it again just to see the graphics!
The story is very interesting, and we get some nice surprises along the way.
There are 40 locations (not including hidden object scenes and zoom-in scenes) in the main game, and 16 locations in the bonus chapter -- 11 of which are unique to the bonus. The bonus is a prequel to the main story, and while four of the locations are re-used, the basic look and lighting on these scenes are different, lending to the feeling that this is, indeed happening in another time.
CE CONTENT:
Besides the bonus chapter, we have 13 very nice concept art pictures, an integrated strategy guide, and 9 wallpapers in two sizes: 1024x768 and 1280x800. The walls are all taken from gameplay.
This is a superb game, from the story to the gameplay to the sounds to the graphics. The gameplay is perhaps a bit on the linear side (making it a bit easier than the advanced player might like), but this game is absolutely recommended, no matter what your difficulty preference!

Major glitch in game
I agree with most of the reviews, it is an excellent game and I purchased it. However, towards the end, something weird happened. I still have a lot in my inventory, and quite a few tasks to complete. I go to one area, and use an item from my inventory, and...............I get to the end scene. The game is over. I checked the strategy guide, and I wasn't supposed to do that task until the end. But I wasn't using the strategy guide, so how was I supposed to know that? I wanted to play through the entire game.
If you feel the same, I suggest you stick to the strategy guide towards the end and do things in the order it suggests.

...and I can't WAIT until I can buy this one!!
What a great game. I love the music, the graphics, and everything about the story. In my one hour trial I only got as far as the little boy in the school, but I had a blast getting there. I am anxious to buy this game. :)

Good Solid Game
This is better than most of the games I have been playing lately. A different kind of storyline, graphics are great, good length, voice overs are professional, HOS are plentiful, music enjoyable and a good map so you don't have to hoof it around. My only problem was that some of the puzzles were very easy, like for a 10 year old easy. That's why I did not give it 5 stars, but don't let this turn you off to the game. Give the demo a try.

Unique game with varied HOS scenes
Several things keep this from gettting a top rating, and I'm referring to playing on the hardest mode:
1. The comments are too leading "I need to find a knife to cut this rope". let us figure it out, okay?
2. It seems like several plots jumbled together, the story isn't cohesive and the bonus chapter is the same.
3. The cursor and action are slow.
But the good things:
1. It is a decent length interesting HOS with varied HOS scenes. There are plenty of puzzles and a good map ( you can jump from place to place), which has the unique feature of being able to turn off "hints" ( like where to go next).
2. The female lead character is not dressed in provocative clothing nor is overly sexy (for once).
3. There are "beyond objects" to find and they aren't obvious.
If I could, it would get a 4.5! Worth the CE price!

FUN, I love it
There is so much to do you just never get bored. I love this game. I am not good at reviews, but this is one of the best games i have played. The story is fun, the length is good...and the mini games are fun. Bonus level is where i am at now, and i almost dread finishing it. This is not technical, nor is it informative about game details..but try it and hopefully you will like it also.

Opening scenes really get this story moving!
Bought this game after opening scenes! Sound, Graphics, and Story are terrific. Music takes me back to 50's B movies which I love. Story is fresh and moves the play along just waiting to see where it takes you...! All around Top Notch Game!!! 10 fins up!!!

Finally. Worth waiting for
Now this is what I'm talking about. The graphics are great and I love the map. You can jump for location to location using the map. This cuts down on all of the running back and forth. The map also shows locations of morphing objects.
I love creepy games and this one hits the mark. Thanks devs. Looking forward to more like this. I bought the game after only 15min of demo. Loving it.

A good game
Just finished the demo:
-graphics were good, so visually enticing!
-story line not original but still bearable!
-mini puzzles and HO a wee bit on the weak side of challenging and altogether acceptable to keep one's brain functioning!
-didn't bother with the sound so cannot comment!
I will probably wait for the the "non collection" version before purchasing it altogether with a special offer on a sales weekend from BF.
Didn't feel it was really an immediate purchase for me and would suggest it might be a very good game for beginners and intermediate levels.

Plot was good but that was about it for me (bonus info at bottom)
I should have stuck with my first instincts of this game, that the graphics are dreary and thought the puzzles were boring and the HOS was mostly junkpile. The plot was good and it?s a good length game but that was about it.
I bought the CE as it had morphs but even the morphs were not well done. The icon changed when it went over a morph and mostly it was in dark shadows so it was really hard to see. I like collectables/morphs to be a challenge but I prefer it not to solely rely on darkness to do this.
I thought it was great that the transporter map had two different choices on it, one for morph tips and one for things to do in a scene. You can turn both on or off during the game and I wish every DEV would do this.
I know a lot of people like their challenge to be purely memory and don?t mind loads of backtracking. If you like that then this game delivers. I prefer my gameplay and puzzles to be more of a challenge. The backtracking in this was HUGE even with a map, backtrack for one thing then go somewhere else. This makes it more bitty for me and just didn?t have a good flow for my taste. This game just did not keep my attention due to this.
I feel this developer has done better graphics in the past, and this is apart from the dreary look.
29 PUZZLES (has a skip button)
The puzzles by the end I wanted to scream if I saw one more puzzle ?you?ve seen this combination before.? They were so easy it was boring and also kept repeating a certain type ? swap tiles/rings etc. At the beginning there was hardly any ?puzzles? and I don?t class looking up a combination in your journal as a puzzle and there were LOADS of ?puzzles? like that. There were about 3 or 4 arcade type. I prefer logical, work out puzzles rather than guess the right sequence etc. Apart from 1 or 2 puzzles I did not like them at all. You also have auto tips on hard mode which you should have an info button to bring up this info without it automatically being given.
19 HOS
9 reverse (put an item back in a scene)
10 list type
Most were repeated, do one list then it?s repeated as a reverse scene. There is no random click penalty on the hard mode (choice of two modes you have). A lot was in the junk pile realm, some very small items. I personally didn?t like the look of most of them even though the reverse kind is my favourite kind of HOS.
BONUS EXTRAS & GAME
Apart from the usual (SG, wallpaper, concept art) the only real extra was 40 morphs and they have done it better in their other games, unless you love looking at shadows.
I wouldn?t have really known that the plot was tied up in the main game until I played the bonus which was just a backstory and although it added slightly to the overall story it wasn?t worth it re plot alone and in the middle just got weird for me. But then I rarely think a bonus is worth it on plot alone. I did get 1hr 10mins out of the bonus and mostly it was in a new area and the graphics did actually have some colour to it.
HOS
4 list
3 reverse kind
One of the scenes it was the third time you played it as it was one you played in main game twice already. You repeat each scene, so the list became reverse.
9 Puzzles
Three arcade, configurations, swap tiles/things around to make image
TIME main game over 5 hrs
BONUS another 1hr 10 mins
I?m not recommending the CE as it is double price than a SE, the morphs wasn?t that well done and I just wasn?t loving gameplay to even overlook the other things. Even though the bonus had new area and it was over an hour.
