Spirits of Mystery: The Dark Minotaur Collector's Edition 4.4 5 93 93
Too Good To Be So Short This is a review of the completed game. It is beautiful, inventive, and fun. I really liked the game-play involving animals and how they help you. So, why didn't I rate the game a five? I gave it a four for two reasons. 1. The game is way too short. I expect much more game-play from a Collector's Edition. Maybe it was because the game was so fun that I found it to be too short. I wanted it to go on for another couple of hours at least. If you're wondering, it took me about two hours to complete the game, including the bonus chapter. To me, that is way too short. 2. I can tell you right now that if you decide to wait for the standard version of this game, you will find that the game doesn't resolve the story, and you will be missing out on some of the game's most fun moments involving the animals. I don't think it is really fair to those who can't afford the price of the CE to miss out on so much. If you can deal with the short length, you will like this game. December 27, 2012
Spirits of Mystery 3: The Dark Minotaur I played the beta of this game, so I can review it so soon. I really enjoyed the first two parts of the Spirits of Mystery series, so I knew that I will buy this game and I've done it now. The game is very magical. The storyline has some things from a fairy tale story and some creepy charakters like a dark man named Isa with his panther. The gameplay is good, but the HO's and the puzzles are very easy. That's ERS problem at the moment. All the games are very easy. But I like the interactive Hidden Object scenes. I hope there are some more in the full version. The sounds are good as in every ERS game. The music fits perfectly into the game and the sounds are good! I really like the cursers, because they look beautiful. But the difficoulty and that all ERS games are everytime very similar is why I give the game only a 4 star rating! I recommend it to everyone. Give it a try! December 27, 2012
Great fun in keeping with previous Spirits of Mystery Review based on completed game in 2nd of 3 modes of play. If you liked the prior Spirits of Mystery games then most likely you will LOVE this one. The fairy tale land is creative & whimsical with stunning graphics. There are a solid smattering of interactive HOS. The mini-games are easy, but still clever, cute, and fun. Bonus play makes this one worth the CE price. The details: Storyline: The princess has her magical pets stolen by an Evil Queen planning to take over the kingdom- Yes, it's a well worn theme but the magical creatures add a bit of a twist. Journal: Yes, but reference only & infrequently Map: No, but not really needed based on the way game play flows HOS: There are plenty of them, they are interactive find list of items or silhouettes. These were well thought out and I found myself laughing a few times. Also a plus, for the most part they were not junk pile style. There were some tiny items and challenge. Mini-Games: Even for ERS, the mini-games were particularly easy; --as always, beautifully put together with some twists to keep them somewhat fresh and fun, but almost painfully easy. Hints: Great for HOS. During game play they are vague. Some games will provide arrows to navigate the gamer to the area for the next action. This game just says "look somewhere else". Once the gamer stumbles into "somewhere else" an area is highlighted but the action to take is not revealed. Music: Very pretty but also lively and lacking in variety so it became distracting, especially during HOS. By the end of the game the music was but a whisper. Characters: The magic shop keeper is well done with a husky voice that matches her appearance. The zoo keeper gone wrong is well done as is the evil Queen complete with maniacal laughter. The remaining VO for other characters were ok. Bonus play is a continuation of the story and involves bringing a previously bewitched prince together again with his princess bride. Overall, this is a well done, beautifully polished game with plenty of eye candy. However, having already played the other Spirits of Mystery, this game felt a bit formulaic and the ending was anticlimactic. Also moving forward in game play was a let down - It involved random characters providing magic powder to enable traveling between settings. Getting past the bad guys involved getting several "invisibility potions". These gimmicks became tedious. I recommend for folks who like the Spirits of Mystery series or those who like formulaic Fairy Tale themes with a good sprinkling of interactive HOS. Folks looking for some challenge in adventure or new potentially challenging mini-puzzles, would likely not enjoy playing this one. December 29, 2012
Fun to play, and easy, but my god it was short I enjoy these relatively simple games which dont require too much concentration. The game flows nicely and the puzzles are varied and fun, although the HOS get more frequent at the end.... very bizarre though, that it does just suddenly end, almost what feels like 1/2 way through the story. I completed the entire game in just over 1hr 30 mins, so not a good use of 10.80 in my mind.... We just dont seem to get any of the good old fashioned MCF games that lasted many hours and you had to go away and come back to. Personally i wont recommend this game in the CE version as it is so short... best wait till it is SE and use a free voucher December 27, 2012
Superb but short First review ever from me...loved it. Good addition to the 'Spirits of Mystery' series. Graphics superb Story line good Great mix of puzzles & HOs which are interactive....why the 4 stars? Way too short for a C.E. I was incredibly disappointed with the way it finished, it felt far too rushed & left me feeling extremely dissatisfied, even with the bonus chapter. It made me feel like the devs had got bored with it all. Sort it out, ERS, as the next time you develop one of these games, I will only be buying the S.E in future! December 28, 2012
Great Mini-games! So many of these types of games have similar themes to them. Good vs. evil, potions and witchcraft themes. Fun to play but it would be nice to see some some new concepts. I like the princess/kingdom storylines, but some of the themes become alittle too dark art for me. What I loved about this game were the mini-games. They were more animated and not just your typical hidden object stuff. Really fun to play and figure out. The graphics were also superior. Overall, I liked this game a lot and thought it was a good purchase. January 24, 2013
Maybe I expected too much...? Having really enjoyed the previous Spirits of Mystery installments, I was keen to give this one a go. Started off promising, the visuals were beautiful, and loved the idea of saving your magical animals, but the inconsistent story lost it a bit for me. At the very begining Isa is described as your "Royal Hunter" and then within the next couple of screens he is this evil dude - surely you would not have hired an evil dude to work at the Palace...? Didn't need the hints much, gameplay was pretty simple, puzzles weren't that taxing. Got through the demo before the hour was up, but won't buy the full version. Overall, enjoyed the demo for what it was. December 30, 2012
Nice game for children Nice game but one I would be unlikely to purchase because I suspect that, once you know what to do, there would be very little challenge if you played it again. December 28, 2012
fun game, but there's some loading issue I own every single game in this series but unfortunately this one is my least favorite. ERS Games haven't changed, so graphic is their typical style. The HOG games are few and they're diverse from finding regular items, to interactive, to shadow images. There're few animals here, but too bad they mostly don't do anything unless we give them something to eat. The usual good thing from ERS is here: the nice voice overs, the length, the SG, the extras, but this game has serious loading issues in my computer. On on the first screen it freezes and I have to restart the game at least twice to make it work. In the end it's getting slower, maybe because of the first loading issue. I try to finish this game as soon as possible so not to meet another technical problem. In the end, if you want to buy this game, please make sure you try the demo first and decide. March 6, 2013
Great game.. fun interactive HO scenes I really enjoyed this game, it was very similar to Song of the Phoenix with fun interactive HO scenes. The graphics were beautiful, no over the top scary scenes, and the extra bonus chapter was long and added just enough to the end. My only complaint was that the sound was obviously on a loop, and would audibly stop and start over again, with every single scene. For a game to be this well-made I found that a little odd, but otherwise very good game. March 1, 2013
