Don't waste your time I have been a faithful MCF fan for years and waited all year for the next game. I was so disappointed with this game. Worse yet, I bought the CE version and feel like I wasted my money. The magic that is MCF was completely missing. It was just boring. If you want to try it, just by the regular version and don't waste your money on the CE or the strategy guide. They have some serious work for the next game to get back to the old feeling. The Best MCF yet I used to do adventure games in the old days and never was able to finish them. The new generation such as Mystery Case Files are doable albeit with a little help from a walkthru once in a while. I've always found MCF superior to others and Shadow Lake is no different. They've stepped it up and the story line was really good. There is a new feature instead of connecting puzzle pieces you connect moving squares as a way to get to another step in the story. Another thing I liked was that you had to go to various screens to find all the objects and drawings. Lea Thompson is delightfully hammy as Cassandra and I got quite a chuckle out of her acting. Now I'm in my 60's and do this on and off about an hour or 2 at a time and no I can't solve a puzzle in 10 seconds but I hope those that say they do are doing as well in school. The only thing I didn't like was the strategy guide which is lame as you kids say, LOL! I think is was as good an MCF game as I've ever played and look forward to the next. February 13, 2013
Where's the puzzles? It took me about a month to finish this game. No, not because it was all that difficult, but because I'd play it for about 10 minutes and realize "I've got better things to do". Then I'd set it aside for a few days, get back to it, forgetting where I had last left the ladder and have to wander around looking for it. Didn't really care for matching up the drawings, since they were of such poor quality. Worst of all were those video jigsaw puzzles after the readings. The concept was OK, but at least on my computer I had a heck of a time dragging and rotating those squares into place. I *knew* where the square was supposed to go, but it was just so difficult to drop it into the exact right place. And most games require you to just get it "close", and it snaps into place. This one required you to get it exactly correct, within a few pixels. Very annoying. Very, very annoying. And on one of those puzzles the last square ended up on top of the main picture, but I couldn't manipulate either one. I finally told myself "why I am wasting my time, I know where I want to put that square; I've solved this puzzle, but the game won't let me complete it." So I just clicked Skip, which I rarely do. Didn't really care much for Lea Thompson. She was overly dramatic. Bring back the Ravenhearst style. February 12, 2013
Better Than The 13th Skull I did like the game, but found it no challenge (played at Expert level), expcept for the puzzles where you had to put floating pictures together so the psychic could get a reading. The hidden objects were more interesting than in the past games as you had to often go to another room to complete them. The collector's edition is a let down as there really are no achievements, and it only adds one location where you do may be 3 things to unlock morphing objects. Lea Thompson's acting was horrible as she over-acted everything. February 10, 2013
Loved It! I am not sure what some other folks are complaining about! I found this game to be Excellent. I loved the reality visuals and the Real People acting in it. If only they made more games like this instead of low level artists drawing. Do not get me wrong, I love Good Art in games when its Well Done! Which not all games offer that. I found the story line to be excellent and intriguing and it kept me going, excited to know what my next task was and what was going to happen next. Some folks might be complaining because they may have found it too easy. I would tell those people to get over themselves! Not everyone is like you and has the same opinion! You can tell that a lot of work went into making this game and the least you could do is show some appreciation. Generally I found the game to be Excellent and Fun. I really liked the storyline and the game play. Definitely a 5 star rating in my books! I wish they would upgrade and take on phantasmagoria (another game which also has real actors in it) because I would buy that in a second. February 3, 2013
Disappointed This didn't even seem like a MCF game. Cursor kept disappearing and game wouldn't recognize that I was done--it kept going back to the last screen even though I'd finish adn go through the credits. So I wasn't able to do bonus play, but that's OK--I really didn't want to. Last two MCF were disappointing. I won't look forward to them like I used to, that's for sure. February 2, 2013
Oh what a shame I am so disappointed in MCF. I loved Madame Fate, which got me hooked, Dire Grove and Ravenhurst were terrific. This game is annoying, Lea Thompson is horrible and makes me cringe when she speaks, which seems like every few moments. I have tried to play and I just get so annoyed I close the game down. disappointing Soooooo disappointed with the game. Didn't like the strategy guide either and the bonus game was a joke in this day and age. January 31, 2013
Not as good as other MCF CE games I loved the previous MCF games with bonus play. This one was disappointin. The bonus play was just unlocking a safe to unlock 50 morphing objects in which you have to find throughout the town....that was it. The bonus play wasnt even an "adventure" type play like previous games. Storyline was not the best. I like Lea Thompson in movies, but wasnt a fan of her in the game. She was kind of annoying in game. Game is not really challanging like the others. I finished in less than 5 hours. Previous games like Dire Grove and 13th skull took longer and was more entertaining. The HO scenes were very simple. I was able to find all the hidden objects in the HO scenes in less than 2-3 min. If you want this game I recommend you buy the SE, not CE. January 31, 2013
MCF Shadow Lake CE WHAT HAPPENED??? MCF you had it all & now you've created a game that is just as dull as any other, get back to the drawing board!!!! January 27, 2013
