Refreshingly different!
Based on playing the trial:
- Great storyline, sensible dialogues (bubbles are on top w/ each character's face in a dialogue), fantastic artwork; it's like watching a movie and interacting within it. The "film grain" effect really works, very neat.
-Puzzles are different; not mind-benders but enjoyable.
-Interactive HOS have few new twists and when played twice, there are no repeat objects.
-Instant refill for Hint button outside HOS. Doesn't tell you what to do next but points w/ arrows.
-A map to jump would've been great for all the back and forth but it shows areas of interest, what to do and follows live (on the bottom RHS) as you move.
-Cannot comment on sounds or voice-overs since I mute all volume while playing.
Such a different way to incorporate the same 'ol elements (screwdrivers, keys, electrical tape, pipes, etc). The Devs. seems to be able to laugh at themselves - in one scene, you need to use a firecracker for something (you'd never do this in real life) and the character exclaims "That's a bit much!" LOL! :D
I haven't played the previous one. Truly enjoyed the trial & wanted to keep playing. For me, a definite buy when it's released as a SE. Hope the file size will be smaller.

Big on Words,Little Entertainment
The last time I buy a game based on star rating without trying the game out first. What a Ripoff.Talk, talk, talk and more talk. The puzzles were either too easy or too hard.Backtracking is never ending. Not worth the price that's for sure.I enjoyed the hidden object scenes and that's saying a lot as I am not a hidden object fan.

A LOT OF EFFORT!
I am a fan of these guys from Dorian Grey, and I couldn't have waited for their new Brink! The cut scenes are something amazing and beautiful to watch and enjoy and you can tell that they really have worked a lot. Screenshots are beautiful and this game really deserves all the highest ranks for graphics.
Only tiny problem for me, is that they haven't worked as much on the game play and puzzles and the game is a bit shorter that I have expected.
It is totally NOT connected to Dorian, even though they've tried to connect the two by force... I know that series sell better, but if you ask me, there really was no need for this.
The game is great and I can't wait for more from them.

not nearly as good as dorian grey
i don't know what is going on in the realm of ho casual games, but i have been very disappointed in the quality of games released of late (the latest mcf is another case in point) in fact, i felt i had to give this game 3 *'s after i gave shadow lake 3 (after completion i felt it really deserved 1.5).
anyway, like mcf this game has waaayyy too much talking. not nearly enough puzzles and feels repetitive. lots of walking back and forth...
to make matters worse it also seems to have been released with a glitch in the bonus chapter. i fished the key out of the tree but it never made it to inventory. so, can't finish the bonus chapter (i can't figure out how to hack the code on this one the way i did to finish the bonus chapter in mcf).
at least i only paid half price.

Brilliant!
Just finished playing the demo. What didn't I like about it? NOTHING! The hour went SO quickly. I thought the first game in this series was good, but this one is brilliant. Story was engaging, graphics were just the best I've seen and the puzzles (which I love) were just beginning to get me thinking! I was trying to figure out the 3 "digital" maths problem when my time ran out! Can't wait to buy it - will definitely be buying the CE on this one! Enjoy fishies!

Nor for me!
I am so surprised at all the rave reviews. I only played 20 minutes of the demo then deleted.
The graphics were grainy and I felt like I was straining to see the objects in the HOS. The puzzles were far too easy. You just start to move then somebody starts talking again and although you can skip the dialogue...why have it if its not relevant. There is a map but it is not interactive, and finally you get sparkles in every mode except hardcore which is very disappointing.
All in all, I got irritated very quickly...I will pass on this one.

Interruptions Galore
If I wanted to sit through that many interruptions and that much pointless dialogue, I'd watch television.

So cool and DON'T miss the bonus chapter of CE
I just finished this mystery and liked it very much. Also, I loved the fact that I could click hints when I was stumped and an arrow brought me to where I should get to next, lol I am not a great solver! I gave it five stars for the storyline, the fun spookiness factor, the graphics! I recommend (highly) buying the Collector's Edition because the added bonus chapter brings the mystery to a new level of eerie plot and scenes of the town in Scotland were superb graphics (imo).

Beautiful Game But....
I played the CE version and this review is based on the trial. There are 3 difficulty modes: Casual, Normal and Expert. I played the game on Normal.
PROS
Beautiful graphics
Logical Storyline
Interesting Puzzles
CONS
Too much talking! The cut scenes were numerous, and you could not advance through the dialog. There was a skip button, but I didn't want to miss out on any clues.
Puzzles could be more difficult.
Sparkles - maybe on the Expert level you would not have the sparkle hints...but if you waited more than 5 seconds it sparkled on a clue.
I would probably buy this as a SE version on sale.

I'm conflicted...
I absolutely LOVED the first BOC game, so I came to this with high hopes...that initially, seemed doomed to be dashed. This game, while very good, doesn't quite live up to the first BOC. There are FAR too many cut scenes, the accents (even to a non-Brit) can be a bit hard to take, and the dialogue lurches between Victorian and modern-day...However, after watching part of the interviews in the Bonus Content (and I will go back and watch the rest; time is a factor here), I am quite willing to cut the devs a bit of slack and concede that I can't wait to re-play this game, in light of what I now know. Herewith, the pros and cons:
Pros
1) Hands down, visually, one of the most beautiful games I've seen. I have a brand-new 24" monitor, and this game fills every square inch with simply gorgeous graphics. I liked the look of the earlier BOC, and the devs only build on that here. The Chinatown scenes, in particular, are simply phenomenal.
2) The music, oddly enough. No, the '40s, film-noir feel doesn't exactly fit the VIctorian England setting, but the music is beautiful, haunting, and one of only two soundtracks that I've ever wanted to listen to outside of the game. (Dire Grove was the other.)
3) The story - and I don't mean to belittle this element by placing it third, but, perhaps significantly, that's where it occurred to me. We have here a murder mystery, unlike the earlier game, where Oscar introduced himself right from the start. It's an intriguing story, if a bit far-fetched, but surely, the first thing we must be willing to do in one of these games is suspend disbelief. The story caught me up and carried me on, and I don't ask more than that.
4) Intriguing puzzles, with a level of difficulty that, for me, was spot on. I don't like puzzles that insult my intelligence; I also don't like puzzles that make me pound my head on the desk. That's a difficult line to walk; these puzzles do it perfectly - and I hadn't seen most, if not all, of them ever before. No Towers of Hanoi here, people. (Not that there's anything wrong with ToH.)
5) HO scenes that were clear and beautiful to look at, with a nice mix of regular and interactive objects.
And now to the cons..
1) Do any of the characters EVER stop talking? There was SO much dialogue here, and you really do need to listen to it, or you'll simply be lost. Some of the accents were "a bit dodgy" LOL, and some of the lines were ...just odd, but when I consider that this is from a dev for whom English is not the first language, much is forgiven. If the idiom ranges from Victorian to dated present-day, at least they get the point across.
2) SO many cutscenes - a carryover from point 1. I think, having watched the interviews, that the main problem here may that the devs were trying to cross genres - going from the self-described "horror story" of Dorian Grey to a murder mystery. I think they need to find a better way to convey the story behind a murder mystery, and, given what I've already seen from these folks, I think they will. I can't wait for their next effort.
All in all, a good solid second effort. Like so many encore performances, this doesn't quite live up to the first. However, had it BEEN the first effort from these devs, I think we would all be raving about this game. Even if you don't feel inclined to purchase the CE (although I highly recommend that you do - the bonus isn't NECESSARY to the story, but it is illuminating), do buy the SE, if for no other reason than to bask in the simple beauty of the game. Darn near every scene is going into Jigsaws Galore to enjoyed all on it's own.
