Lovely at First Review of full collection edition played in hardcore mode. The start of this game is just lovely, festive, magical and fun. The HO scene's are interactive and clear. The puzzles and tasks are very easy but I didn't mind as the graphics are wonderful and enchanting. Music is an asset to the scenes. The length of the game is OK, felt it could have been longer for a CE. You will also need to collect 25 dolls. The story is a different take on the Nutcracker and his fight with the Rat King, and that was fine with me... but the game strays to egyption cats and mayan calendars that just put a damper on the Christmas feeling of the game. The bonus content really takes a leap when magical warrior cats fighting ice wolves pop up. Give the demo a go, but remember it is a bit on the short side, easy puzzles and the story wanders a bit. December 4, 2012
Cute Game for the Holidays - A Guy's Review *Review based on completing the full game + bonus chapter in advanced mode* If you want ONE Christmas themed game for the holidays, I think this is the one to get. Beautiful locations, cute characters and plenty of stuff to crack your nut on. You're invited to the Christmas ball, but arrive late, and end up having to help the Nutcracker rescue his darling princess Mary. Along the way you get to meet several fantastic characters and get to know their background stories. I absolutely love how the developers made the story progressions as it kept things interesting throughout the course of the game. The story itself is nothing of grandeur, but it is cute and fit the spirit of the season. Along the way several of these characters come to your aid to solve the tasks you encounter. Each with their own abilities. Fantastic. The story is narrated and the characters voiced. And even though it is not done remarkably, they still do an acceptable job at it. Compared to similar games (genre wise) it has a lot of story to tell and is head and shoulders above many of them. Sure, it's sort of cute and sweet and fairy tale'ish, but it keeps the game interesting. Graphically the game is nice. Locations are interesting and fitting to the theme and looks quite astonishing. Nothing too dark and gloomy about this game. Everything is bright and crisp. The cut-scene animations are somewhat blurry, but by no means bad. Characters are animated nicely as well, but I was surprised to see that they weren't in the close-ups where they communicate with you. The music is fitting to the game and of course revolve around "The Nutcracker Suite". Sound effects and ambient sounds are also of high quality. One thing that wasn't particularly good though is that it seemed like the volume was a bit delayed during narration and cut-scene vocals. There is a good mixture of adventure, puzzles, mini-games and HO scenes to find here. Luckily it also offers a bit of challenge and some nut cracking is necessary. There is quite the bit of adventuring involved, and it is done creatively and engaging. It causes quite a bit of traveling back and forth through locations, but luckily for many, there is an interactive map you can use to fast travel on. You will encounter quite a few puzzles too, and these vary in difficulty from easy to quite hard. There are several familiar ones, but quite a few seemed original too (at least to me). The variations of difficulty keeps you on your toes, but does not make it frustrating. It is my philosophy that all games should do this, so it fits me perfectly. The HO scenes are really beautiful scenes that fits the holiday theme as well as other themed elements. You actually solve puzzles to get to them instead of them just being sparkled zones in the location. They are clutter scenes, but not too cluttered. They are also interactive to keep them interesting, but I didn't notice any revolutionary new elements. Most of them are bright and even the ones that aren't aren't too hard on the eyes either. Items are sharp and never hard to identify. The best of all is that you only have to do each one of them once. That is dedication from the developer, and helps keeping the game fresh throughout. Thumbs up. There are quite a few of them as well, so you do not need to worry if you are a HO fanatic. The game also features a couple of creative mini-games that also helps keeping the game interesting. You have three levels of difficulty to choose from: Casual: -Quick recharge of hint/skip -Sparkles on active zones and objects Advanced: -Slow recharge of hint/skip -No sparkles at all Hardcore: -No hint or skip -No sparkles at all Playing in advanced offered some challenge, which is good. If you like it very relaxing you should probably opt for the casual mode. I had to skip one puzzle (a slider (I hate them)). The game mechanics are smooth as far as I can tell. Movement and interactions works flawlessly. The HUD is clean and familiar. You don't have a journal in this game, but it didn't really feel necessary either. Instead of using the journal to tell half the story it is much more clever the way they did here. The map is interactive and transport able, and I found myself using it quite a bit. I wish every game came with that now. It could have been slightly easier to use with having the whole world on one page. Instead it has areas sectioned off and arrows to connect them. It does highlight the areas where you have actions to do. Bonus: Well, there is no surprise here really. You get one extra chapter to play (half of the locations are the same as the main game), strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, screensaver, music, collectibles and achievements. If you are generally happy with what typical CE's offer of value for your buck, this should make you happy. I think it even offers more than what they typically do. I don't think it is worth the double cost, but that is just me. I want to see much more for the double price. I did however get this one at a discount and do not feel in any way ripped off. A plus with the bonus chapter is that you get to meet several more cute characters that will help you with your tasks. It is not very lengthy, but felt longer than what they typically are. You also need to find 25 dolls spread out through the locations of the game, and you get a selection of achievements that you collect under the Christmas tree. The game is very well suited for the holidays ahead and I can recommend it to anyone. Beginners and experts alike. It takes you on a joyful ride through snowy landscapes. The main game is lengthy enough to keep you occupied for a while. Should not be missed. For the guys: If you can stomach cute cats and a romantic fairy tale you should not miss out on this game. You might have to watch a good dosage of football afterwards to make up for it though ;o). TJ December 5, 2012
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL !!!! BASED ON COMPLETED GAME...... Wow. I am completely blown away at how fun and beautiful this game was. I played on the middle difficulty setting and was quite pleased. As many reviewers have already said, the graphics are awesome, the settings beautiful, and I found the game to be long and quite fullfilling. I certainly didn't rush through, it was too stunning for that!! Another great thing for us older players, the HOG scenes and their lists were NOT small, making it easier on the eyes. Please just TRY the demo of the game. And if you liked the game Royal Detective: The Lord of Statues you will certainly love this game! November 30, 2012
Nutcracker yes please Loved the 20 mins I played for. Will be buying this very soon, but I have to pay for christmas first. Everyone has already said everything thats good about this game cant better it myself. So I will wish the seasons greetings to everyone at Big Fish and all the players. November 30, 2012
Adorable!! I LOVE this game...it is so charming and the scenes and music are so nice that I don't even care that it's a game...I could just look at it and listen to the music! The HO scenes are beautiful and interactive...you have helpers in the form of the Tin Soldier and a cat. The mini games are so cute and most, so far, are different but they are all totally adorable. There seems to be a lot of extras with the CE but as I have only played the demo so far, I can't really comment on them. The Nutcracker is a Christmas classic and this game brings it to life in a very fun way. Love it!! November 29, 2012
Great Instead of getting the new MCF I will be getting this game. The visuals on this game are great and the puzzels were just hard enough. I could see playing this game at any time of the year. The devs did a great job on this game. November 29, 2012
Breathtaking! There are so many things that could've gone wrong with this game but the have achieved greatness. A famous story and ballet has come to a game. The story is just as you remember as a child. The brave nutcracker fighting the evil rat king for his lady. They have added some friends to help along the way, a kitten, candle, and a dog helps you too. The graphics are superb. The games are fun. The HO games are well done-not too cluttered. It was a nice change of pace to ghosts and monsters. I loved it! Well worth the price. Don't miss out on this one. November 29, 2012

classic love story for the young and the young-at-heart tired of ghosts, ghouls and zombies? then this is the game for you! this retelling of the famous nutcracker suite is a delightful hidden object puzzle game. in this fantasy, you help the prince overcome the wicked rat king's curse that transformed him into a nutcracker so he can then save the princess mary, who was kidnapped by the rat king. graphics: beautifully rendered; detailed, clear and sharp. although cluttered, most hidden object scenes are not random junk piles that drive me crazy. nice blend of puzzles and hidden object scenes. most of the puzzles are fairly easy (but still fun) and the hidden object scenes are non-repeating. lovely cut scenes, no voice overs. sound: this is one game where you'll want to turn the sound UP whilst playing it because it features Tchaikovsky's classic ballet score, "Nutcracker Suite", so the music is without parallel when it comes to video games. storyline: really could have been tightened up: i was annoyed by the maya calendar, the blue kitten and the dog (but at least the candle made sense). i am probably a purist, but i didn't like how the game strayed from the storyline, and this is the reason i gave this game four instead of five stars. gameplay: this game has 8 chapters. you collect 25 dolls (but no nutcrackers, which would have made more sense), and replay value is enhanced by achievements. there are three difficulty modes -- casual (sparkles and rapid hint/skip recharge), advanced (no sparkles and slow hint/skip recharge), and hardcore (no sparkles, no hint/skip) -- the difficulty mode can be changed at any time during the game without creating a new profile. each scene has a map that allows you to quickly jump to other game locations, no overclick penalties and the puzzles have a reset button. my interaction: i own this game. overall, this is a delightful and engaging game that will appeal to even the most expert gamer. excellent fun for the entire family, and excellent replay value, and the seasonal theme is just another bonus. An excellent game for everyone Everything has already been told positively on this game, so I can only add my voice to the chorus. It?s a very entertaining, and relaxing game, very well created with fantastic graphic details, the music it?s superb, but it?s Tchaikovsky, so how could it be any different??? The story is a gentle fairy-tale like, with a good dose of originality and a little humorous self-irony. The characters are lovely, without being too mawkish- I?m relieved to not see any cemetery, zombie, various corpses, gloomy and scary medical laboratory and ?wow it?s wonderful! No cars which remain without gas in front of a haunted manor gate. I?d like that all the talented developers could realize that a game of this level and this kind of story could be welcome all the yearlong, not only around Christmas. I do think many people are fed up with the repetitive schemes of games, which are always based on ghosts, vampires and all the merry company. I have the impression that many of us might enjoy even more games which are not necessarily too easy and childish, but have a more amusing and light atmosphere. So many thanks to the Elephant developer for the extremely good work they have done here. November 29, 2012
