A Beautiful and Haunting Story I actually bought the CE edition and seeing it here has reminded me of how much I enjoyed the entire game. For those who opted to wait, please do not hesitate to get the SE (the bonus section really did not add too much to the story), as you will find yourself helping our famous novelist to solve another tragic ghost story. The Storyline involves a beautiful violinist who tragically died under mysterious circumstances and her earth bound spirit now haunts Dana's cousin. Dana is asked to help and together you go on a beautiful adventure that involves stunning graphics, beautifully drawn and set against the snowy backdrop of Austria. There are great voice-overs and music which sets the mood. Game features involved three modes of difficulty and there were 6 chapters to play. The HO scenes were interactive and varied in style. The mini-puzzles were fun and as an added treat, there are also Achievements to earn throughtout the game. A great game that offers a fantastic story, great visuals and sounds along with entertaining gameplay which is a 5 star SE game anyday. December 7, 2012
Somebody Listened Too Well GAME COMPLETED SEVERAL TIMES I think the developers have listened too well to that very vocal group of hard core gamers for whom everything is too easy. The first two games of this series were light-hearted, pretty, easy romances, and were delightful because of it. Not so Austrian Sonata. It is beautiful, but it is dark in a way the previous games haven?t been. And more dangerous. And more dramatic. MINOR SPOILER ALERT** Even the happily ever after is bitter sweet. **SPOILER FINISHED But above all, this game is much more difficult to play. I found myself skipping too often, and practically relying exclusively on hint to get around. And they even stole the achievements to the CE?s exclusive use. Despite all these problems I still finished the game in just over 3 hours ? very short for me, and certainly shorter than most games I play. One important plus about this game, though, - as you?d expect from the name ? the music is enchanting and refreshing. All up? I think the developer tried too hard on this one, but it is still a beautiful game. March 28, 2013
Thrilling winter wonderland!! Played already the CE and was curious what the differences are... For those who love to earn achievments I recommend to play the CE!! Here are none.... But this one's still great fun, I promise! There is a lot to do and to explore, unfortunately without a map, but thank god, with a very good hint system, telling you what to do next. We have a good balance of interactive HOS and welldone puzzles, some new and not too challenging. Graphics are sharp and clear! And when I take a look outside the window: this game fits to the current weather: I love that!! Wellmade notebook. - 3 modes to play. Yes! I recommend this game! December 7, 2012
EXCITING NEW DANA KNIGHTSTONE Relaxing music; gorgeous scenes; appealing and believable story (if you believe in ghosts); wide variety of clever puzzles. Good blend of HOS and puzzles/mini-games. It?s a delight to see HOS with such detailed and picturescque graphics instead of the drab, overly crowded and dilapidated-looking HOS found in so many games today. As with the other Dana Knightstone stories, the developers put a lot of thought into the plot and did a fantastic job of putting the gameplay together to move the story forward smoothly and effortlessly. And they showed a little humor in everyday life - the animals and their antics sure added a little smile to my face. A very well developed and polished game. A nice addition to my Dana collection. So so game 3rd in the Dana Knightstone series. Dana is a novelist/detective who can see ghosts. Storyline is her cousin who is dying needs her help to find some missing music sheets lost by a dead violinist (Elise) who has been haunting him. HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure) although more HOS (Hidden Object Scenes) than Puzzles Developers are Boomzap (one of my favourite) Game opens in wide screen (always a bonus) Graphics are clear and sharp Audio clear 3 modes of play (find what is offered for each in settings) You can't change mode of play once started (a little extra some of the Devs have been offering of late] Custom or Systems Cursor, both work smoothly Journal which keeps info for further gameplay, so check regularly Hint and skip button take about 70-80 seconds to fill in Normal mode (too long for this impatient player] Hint tells you exactly what you have to do - don't like this in games, after all you're requesting a hint not a solution. There are voiceovers (which I find strange when the character's mouth doesn't move and they're staring at you, especially the butler, he's really weird] I found the HOS quite fun and varied if a little strange. The first one you had to find so many of certain items, which I liked. HOS are interactive [find this to cut or fix this) I found this quite a strange game....Unlocked a door and there is the butler tied to a chair staring at me, requesting I untie him but do I untie him immediately....no! I have to do a HOS first while the butler is giving me evil eye....weird! Loved the snowy scenes and the cute little animals, just not too sure about the rest. I do recommend this game but with reservations December 7, 2012
Good game Have good voice over and music is good. The graphics are also good. Not that hard to play and has a good flow. HOG are different and fun. Puzzles are also not that hard and makes it fun. The hint button tell you what to do and where to go. For me that is a little more info than needed but that is better than no hints. Different and fun. December 7, 2012
Great Game! I just completed DK: An Austrian Sonata and was so sorry it was over. I've played all three Dana Knightstone games and loved them all. This game was great from beginning to end. A good balance of HOS and mini games. I'm not usually a fan of too many HOS but the ones in this game were so enjoyable, I wished there were more. The only disappointment for me were the mini games. I skipped almost half because they were either too redundant (untwist the rope is really stale) or too difficult for me. I read a review that said there was too much moving back and forth. I didn't find that. Actually, I found going back to obtain an object helped me to remember where things were and where places were. I highly recommend this and the other two DK games. Good story with nice graphics The story is interesting. There are 3 game modes. The graphics are very clear, as are the HOS. The puzzles are on the easy side but interesting. There is a journal but no map; but you don't need one since there are not many locations in each chapter. The music gets boring after some time. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to complete in Advanced mode. December 8, 2012
No reasons for disappointment So many good and not as good words said about this one. Here are my 5 cents. Honestly, I hardly understand those who are that disappointed I see no reasons for that. The scenes, the visuals are excellent and memorable, a real pleasure to the eyes. Love and ghost story, an incredible blend to give you hours of fantastic experience. And this subtle chamber music that stays with you for the whole gameplay, isn?t it marvelous? Plenty of HO scenes, varied and interactive. Outstanding list of achievements to complete ? I LIKE IT! I won?t deny there are a couple of inaccuracies but no way do the spoil the fun and excitement. January 16, 2013
LOVELY FUN GAME Great adventure game with exciting gameplay, nice mix of puzzle games & HOs. Lovely graphics and excellent VOs. Only downside is length- played full game in advanced mode in under 3 and half hours. Recommend for beginner/intermediate who prefer adventure & minigames. Great break from horror type as it is more detective with a hint of fantasy. December 29, 2012
