REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME Elephant Games should change their name to Elegant Games. This one is especially classy and stylish, with outstanding graphics on wide screen. The story is a new take on the Cinderella Fairy Tale and extremely well done. There are a huge number of characters in it, all interesting to interact with. There are some of the most unique and fascinating beasts I have ever seen. Truly their creators are so talented. There are also exotic animals and birds which play their parts in the tasks and story. Then there are those of the furred and feathered kind we are used to, who are our helpers, or in some cases just there to make us go "OMG, that is so cute!" And I did, several times. The iHOS are of the return the items variety and just the right amount. The music is a little sparse in places, but there are ambient sounds, which do lend to the atmosphere. There are collectibles in the form of a camera you receive at the start of the game, with which you photograph all the wonderful creatures you encounter. The SG was a little slow to respond but I did not use it much because the internal directions and instructions are just superb. No problems with navigation as there is a beautifully constructed jump map that transports you instantly. The puzzles were difficult for me, mostly, but those who love a challenge will be well pleased with them. The main game took me 5 hrs and ends conclusively for those awaiting the SE. But I really loved the BC. It is about a new threat from a different enemy and is of a more mature nature, rather scary actually. It is so well done, I did not even notice it had taken me 1hr 45 mins, I was that engrossed in it I lost count of the number of times I got a new surprise, or found myself smiling like a loon, or laughed out loud, or went all gaga. Just splendid.. A wonderful, marvellous and thoroughly intriguing piece of craftsmanship, polished to perfection. Nothing clumsy, awkward or lumbering about it. So, what ya think, devs? Elegant Games, yes? I do not care what you call yourselves. Thank you so much for all the care, attention and creativity you lavished on this. Much appreciated. December 13, 2012
One of the best This is a great game. It's not short, it's not childish, it's not for girls only. Enough with the stereotypes! You can and should demo it to see what it is about and if you like it but reviews shouldn't just be about whether you like it or not, whether you will buy it or not. I cannot afford to buy it but I was so disappointed that the demo time flew by so fast and I had to come back to reality. I say it is one of the best because the story elements, and the hidden objects and the puzzles fit well together and don't distract you from one another. There is no random moving around with zillions of things in your inventory without knowing where they are to be used. This is an interactive story with HOS and adventure elements that flows well together and allows a pleasant immersion in the story. Maps, music, graphics, difficulty, all blend together to form a standard that other games could use and strive to improve. I hope this review is of help to put things into perspective. Enchanting GAME COMPLETED TWICE This is a fun story that embellishes freely on the Cinderella tale, with a darker theme to it, but filled with lively creatures as well as skeletons. I really enjoyed this one, more for the beauty of it than the gameplay I think. The game opens in an atmosphere of archetypal detective stories ? I think bootlegging and cabarets. But don?t get used to it, before long you?re off to a ?faraway land? looking for the girl with the crystal slipper. In the process you come across magical locations and spectacular creatures the likes of which could only be possible in a fairy tale. I found the HOs invariably beautiful, even the really ugly (sometimes disturbing) ones. NOTE: The HOs are all ones where you must put back items. The rest of the gameplay is adventure lite, not too many brain cells likely to fry, but I did occasionally need to use the map and the hint system outside HOs to direct my next move. Both were really good for that, so consequently I didn?t even open the SG. Using the help sped things up, the game still seemed a decent length to me. ... and the story ended happily ever after. Well worth many a replay. Bonus Content Review **** In the CE, as well as helping the prince and saving the girl, we also can photograph the strange beings we encounter for our photograph album. This is a really fun exercise and the chief benefit of buying the CE. The album is then available from the play page. The usual wallpapers, screensavers and concept art are available. And I want to make a point that applies particularly to this game, but most other CEs as well. Frankly I, like many others, wouldn?t care if we had these items in a CE or not, but if you?re going to have them, let?s do it properly. At the very least, the wallpapers should have been depictions of the gorgeous creatures, surely. Why not make the photo album the choice for the screensaver as well? Even concept art would be more interesting if it followed through the several incarnations of a single character/image as a screensaver. Just me and my soap box. The bonus game play was good, took about a third of the time of the main story. It used many of the same locations but they were practically completely redrawn to reflect the new circumstances. It worked as a stand-alone short game and was not at all needed for the main game. Had same standards as the main game. Would I buy the CE again? Yes, but really, only for those photos. Modern detective in a fairy tale.....lovely ! Played 30 minutes casual - Elephant Games - 3 modes, casual, advanced, hardcore - Integrated SG which shows 7 chapters + bonus play - Bonus chapters and extras available in the demo - Voice overs - Very nice music - Map, you can jump from one place to another, shows areas of interest - Hint, outside H0, it tells you what you should do, very useful. Refills quickly in casual - H0, you have to put objects back where they belong - Good mini games - Gorgeous graphics Modern detective landing in a fairy tale !! Elephant Games are better and better, a real pleasure this game, unfortunately this is a buy for me.... December 13, 2012
Lions and Tigers and Bears (Oh My!) I didn't care for this game. I know, I know... this developer gets plenty of accolades on this site, but I honestly don't know why. They don't make bad games, but I don't think that they are the "leader in the industry" either. Insofar as this game is concerned: Graphics. The graphics in this game were ok, but they weren't incredible. This developer always seems to get an A+ rating when it comes to graphics, however, I've seen better graphics produced by other developers. Fact is, I'm never really impressed by the graphics that Elephant Games has to offer. Achievements: In this game there are none. Nada. The only thing a player can do is "take pictures" of the various critters that you encounter in this game. On Taking "Snapshots" or "Pictures": It's VERY UNFORGIVING. If you miss taking a snapshot of a critter, then you missed that respective snapshot (period). There's no going back. In other games that I've played (that have flowers, butterflies, or morphing beyond objects etc.), I've always been able to return to areas of the game that I've already explored, and "pick up" an object that I might have missed (provided that the previous areas of the game aren't "locked"). Not so in this game. In this game you have an opportunity to take a picture of a critter that you encounter, but if you miss it the first time around, you've missed it for good. I don't like when a game is that inflexible. If I miss something, than I almost feel as if the game "beat me". VO's: They were ok... nothing to write home about. HOS: I like something a bit different, and so placing objects INTO the HOS is a nice change... but it really got aggravating when I had to do that for ever HOS. I like a mix, but the approach that this developer took was a bit "overkill" in my opinion. All in all I'm leaving a point of view here, but I won't recommended the game one way or the other. Cuter than baby bunnies in a slap fight This game is adorable in the best possible way. You ride a unicorn in your search for a princess. The graphics are pastel perfection, the soundtrack is evocative. It's just a darling little game. I also appreciate that Elephant is trying to throw in a few new twists - replacing items in an H0 scene offers more challenge than finding them. I like that, although I preferred the mechanism in"Templar" - placing items from my inventory. I'm less thrilled with taking photos as collectibles. It's a two step process that interrupts the flow of the game and includes too much pixel hunting. As much as I love the looking at this game, I am less interested in actually playing it. Elephant is shifting the focus from challenge to story and emotion. You really can get invested in the characters who populate the game's world and that's brilliant. But I want to play, not meander through another (admittedly delightful) universe. These games don't bore me, they are too detailed for that but somehow they just don't satisfy. I'll buy this as an SE but not a CE. December 14, 2012
Wow! What a beautiful game! This review is based on playing the demo, which is the first of 7 chapters plus the bonus-chapter. Wonderful settings! With elements from the cinderella fairytale. I love fairytale based games!! There are 3 modes to play, I played the 2nd mode. Hint refills quickly and is also helpful outside the HOS. HOS are diffrent to the usual ones: You put items out of your list into the scene (so far in the first chapter). Lots of minigames, some new. The inventory comes along with a flashlight and a camera. With this camera you take pictures of 30 creatures hidden throughout the game. Those pictures are collected in a photoalbum. Nice: We have an interactive map together with a task-list. - All in all this first chapter was a very good appetizer, which made me hungry for more!! I am going to purchase this game!! All putting objects back into scenes! Love this HO type! The game was cute. It seemed a little slow. Not much music and a little easy. I loved the color and fantasy to it though. I loved how all the HO scenes were putting the object back into the scene. I love these kinds (a little extra thinking) and have been waiting for a game to come out with only this kind. Hopefully this won't be the only one! Something different, finally! At least try the game. December 13, 2012
cute but kind of silly This was a twist on a fairy tale. The artwork was beautiful. I also liked the music. But the story was silly and for younger folk. I also found it to be very easy without much challenge to the game. Even though I bought this, I wish I didn't. I don't see myself playing this game again. December 30, 2012
A fun retelling Keep in mind that I only played the demo. This was a fun game that felt a little lighter than the darker games that I usually play. I enjoyed having to place objects in a scene rather than having to find a random list of items-it wasn't just "find the sword", but rather, "where would you, logically, put the sword?". Game play and story moved at a steady pace without an abundance of dialogue that sometimes piles up on you. The mini games were sometimes easy and sometimes more challenging. This is a game I will buy, though admittedly, others would have priority over it. I can't rave about it, but I enjoyed playing it. I'd recommend that you play the play the demo and see for yourself.
