REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME An A for the A team for this game. Beautiful graphics on wide screen. I do not know how they pulled it off, because it is set in a virtually abandoned town where all the structures are run down and derelict, and yet it is lovely to look at. Some feat, that. The story is very sad. A family tragedy during childhood. It really touched me. The music is melancholy, to suite the story. The SG has no text, but pictorial step by step instructions that I had no trouble with at all. The iHOS are a little cluttered, but they are all sharp and clear and very well done. The puzzles are par for the course, but that did not bother me. The cut scenes and voice overs are excellent and all the characters are exceptionally good. This is one of the most technically perfect games I have ever played. It is a pleasure to navigate through it and completely removes the irritation usually caused by backtracking. It also downloaded in about 20 mins and took me totally by surprise as most games lately are taking a whole lot longer. Hint is helpful outside of the iHOS and quick to refill. There are no collectibles or achievements, but they were not missed by me in this game. It is more of a psychological based tale than an occult one, though there is a strange inexplicable item in it that causes all the trouble. When I first saw it I thought I was looking at Mike Myers. The main game took me 4 hrs and ended conclusively. The BC was very good though - a little extra by way of explaining how all this came about. It took me 1 hr 30mins. There are some quite interesting trivia and media facts in the Extras that I enjoyed reading. Couple of things, though. First, no parent in their right mind would put a swing there, let alone let their child play on it. They would have to be certifiable. Second, judging from the unfolding of the dialogue, the devs seem quite convinced that the plot will keep us guessing, but they made a mistake quite early on by not disguising one of the voices, and gave the whole thing away. I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied nevertheless. It is undoubtedly a very good game, made with care and not a little love I think. So, thank you A, you did a super job. Thanks BF. Very absorbing game. Plays well, good clear screen's, graphic's and fast hint recharge. The characters are well done, and there isn't a lot of chat to interrupt your play. Not to difficult a game but it held my interest for the full demo. I wanted to race through this game just to see more and more of it. There is also a map which is another plus for me. I liked it a lot and this will be a buy for me. Another goody to add to my ever growing wanted list. December 23, 2012
This was Worth My First Posting This game is absolutely AWESOME! I usually don't comment on games I have played/purchased, but I had to considering that after the first 5 minutes of gameplay, I was hooked! The graphics are beautiful, and the storyline so far is both haunting and encompassing. If you like horror-themed, or should I say supernatural-themed games, which happen to be my favorites, then this one is definitely for you. I like the fact that you play together with your fiancee', until you get to a certain point. I also like the fact that this is not your "let's return to our hometown, and have a car accident/crash in order to begin the game" beginning. Everything progresses @ a wonderful rate, and instantly pulls you in. The music is okay--honestly, I was so focused on the gameplay, that I didn't pay attention. As an artist, I appreciate the beauty of the artwork contained within the game, it is beautiful. Additionally, the developer of this game happens to be a personal favorite, so I expected nothing less. In my opinion, if you want a game that is altogether a well-rounded play, then choose this one. As for me, I have purchased it, and will take my leave in order to play it straight through. Happy Gaming! December 23, 2012
LOVING EVERY MINUTE! I'm probably about 60% of the way through the game, which I bought after only 15 minutes of the trial. And, even better, I got it as part of the BOGOF deal BF are so kindly giving us just now, so what a bargain! For the chaps, this is a game in which the main character you play is male. Your fiancee, Anna, is drawn back to her old house from 15 years earlier by some eerie goings on, and once you get there.... well, all sorts of odd things start happening. I can't wait to find out what the story is here, but it looks like *somebody* did *something* to *someone*, but what, where and why? There is a map which, whilst not of the "jump"/teleporting type, is helpful in showing you where you are, and where there are things to do. The scenery and sound effects are fab, with lots to see in each one. There are no morphing objects or similar, but that's OK - there's enough to keep you busy without having that to add to your task list! The first hidden object scene was one of the more 'modern' types, where you find one object, use it someplace, find another object, use it to find another one, and so on. There's only been one of those so far, however - the rest are classic types of HOG, although there are a few 'hidden' items in each scene where you have to, for instance, open or move something to find it. The puzzles have been quite refreshing so far too, some are new or have a new angle, and they weren't *too* difficult. Because I've not completed the game yet I don't know how long it is. I don't tend to time myself, but I *think* I've been playing the main game for nearly 3 hours and I'm roughly 60% of the way through it. I'm quite a quick player, but here I'm trying to slow myself down a bit and take time to savour each new scene because I'm enjoying it all so much. Buy this game during the BOGOF period and you'll be getting a real bargain! The dev', whose name #begins with 'A' and ends with 'war', are bringing out great games that are right up my street. Thanks guys! In a time where there have been a fair few 'duffers', games-wise, this one truly merits a top rating :) December 23, 2012
Not exactly a Game For the Holidays! It is a good thing that I actually bought but did not play the Christmas Story, Nutcracker CE game; I was saving it for Christmas and I am glad I did. Because this is definitely not a game that I would want to playing over the holidays. A very interesting game filled me with melancholy during the first 30 minutes of playing the demo. The graphics were very well done, artwork resembled faded water colored canvases and I loved the the animation scenes; they did a brilliant job with voice-overs which were totally in syn with mouth movements. But Seriously, what is up with that music? Can we get anymore gloomier? Our storyline is interesting and this time we are taking on the male lead as Henry who helps his soon-to-be wife Ann with a mystery that she needs to solve involving her dead brother. Together they return to their childhood home, a house by the lake that is haunted by a tragic past. By the way, Ann did annoy me a bit as she kept telling Henry what to do. Once we get there, we recieve the journal and map which will help us play this HOPA game. There are two play modes to choose from and the only sparkles I saw in the casual mode were for HO scenes. The SG maintains our place and tells us there are 12 chapters to play and 4 additional bonus games which is very clever of the developers to do this. This may prove to be a long game well worth the CE price tag. Interesting thing to mention about the SG is that it displays only photos as to what we need to do, there is no text to read. The map indicates progress and there is a task list as well. Gameplay was on the easy side as were the minigames. There really isn't much challenge to the game which was a disappointment. The HO scenes were the best features, interactive by which you need to take an action to recieve an item which you use on another and so on and so on. Overall I found the story interesting and am very much intrigued as to where it will take us. However, I will delay actually playing this game and save it for after the holidays. I am too much in a good mood to immerse myself in this very sad and dismal game. I will definitely be going back to the Nutcracker! Meanwhile I would like to take this time to wish everyone at BFG and all the Fishies at the pond a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and joyful year. December 23, 2012
Ghost of drowned brother........... Played 35 minutes, casual - 2 modes, casual, expert - Integrated SG which shows 14 chapters + 4 bonus chapters - Voice overs - Notebook - Shortly after playing you get a map - Hint useful outside H0, refills in 30 seconds casual and 2 minutes expert - skip button, fills quickly too - H0, you interact, in some of them you have to find objects to get the others, some are regular ones with just an interaction - Mini games not over difficult up till what I played - Excellent graphics, adding to the gloomy atmosphere Loved the game but it is very sad and gloomy... The story -drowned brother reappearing, messing up with your future wedding- isn't over cheerful either. Still it's a buy for me .... December 23, 2012
Perfect game for a rainy day! Liked this game: Eerie atmosphere, good (although wellknown) story, clear graphics. 2 modes to choose. We have a tasklist, a very helpful journal, a map (not interactive) and a SG. Found items are used soon. 14 chapters plus 4 bonus-chapters. Hint refills fast. Lots of HOS and puzzles, both not very challenging. Going to purchase this one as a SE, bonus contend isn't sufficient for me: No collectables or achievments. December 23, 2012
Very Enjoyable I initially had some mixed feelings about this game, but after playing most of the demo, I found it quite captivating. There are both easy and a little more challenging puzzles, which is a welcome change from just too easy. Likewise for the way the story moves along. There is sufficient challenge so you don't get bored. The graphics are very good, and the soundtrack is quite lovely. The characters are a bit hoky; but I'm just looking past them and enjoying the rest. December 23, 2012
Different storyline from usual I only played 10 minutes of this game, and I want it! They actually let you get to sort of know the characters before plunging the player into a HOS. Graphics and sound are great. As I said, I can't say a lot about the game because didn't play very long. The hint button is helpful also. Not a very talented review, I know, but am happy BF got this one! December 23, 2012
Excellent game! This is a fabulous game with beautiful graphics and good sound quality, interesting hidden object games, fun mini puzzles, good music. Loved the general atmosphere, the matching music, the detailed scenes, the characters. It is kind of a gloomy game that is probably not fit for the Christmas period, but if you love that kind of story, you will like this one. December 23, 2012
