REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but they say tongue-in-cheek because it is equally as useless. If I could have foreseen how short, simplistic, easy and just downright amateurish this was going to be, they would never have got my money. But I was taken with the demo, which showed a lot of promise and really had my interest.. No widescreen, achievements or collectibles. A standard map. Fairly good graphics, if a little flat. Quite liked the music. The story was not original, but when are they ever. The hint button is fast and works in and out of the iHOS. But it is overflowing with iHOS, one after the other. The puzzles are laughably easy. I completely forgot about the SG, because I never got stuck or lost. After about 2 hrs it stopped running smoothly and started sticking constantly. Not for long, just a fews seconds, but so often that it was irritating. I may be wrong here, but did they have elevators in the 1800s? I think not. There was a Sean Connery lookalike with the most appalling accent, neither fish nor fowl. There was a mixture of British and American accents, which struck me as odd for some reason. The main game is only 3 hrs and the BC 1 hr and that, by anyone's standards is not good enough. I care nothing for wallpapers, art or music as extras. So, I have paid for something that sells itself as something it is not and I am annoyed. I reprimand you, devs, for passing this off as a CE. You got my money this time, but I will never buy another CE from you. If you continue to make CEs of this calibre your rep will soon be in tatters. Rather stick to SEs. That way no-one will get stung. December 16, 2012
About as interesting as watching a puddle evaporate It just segues from one hidden object scene to the next with not a lot in between, very dated graphics, clunky interface, objects in HO scenes that require interaction to find are so simple and dull it's untrue, find a knife and use it on a pumpkin to make a jack-o-lantern for example, which has been done a hundred times, no effort was expended whatsoever on the development of this game, just sloppy, lazy output from a studio desperate to make money, totally unworthy of the collectors edition price tag. Another big bang! I didn't think much of this game. Stilted movement, annoying music, which I turned off thankfully it has that option. Weak graphic's but quite clear screens and fast loading hint. Just tried that as a matter of course. It has a map which is a plus but also a lot of chat that you can click through. My biggest bug bear was that after 20 minutes the game crashed after an error code. Not for me this one, just didn't hold my interest. December 16, 2012
what a disappointment! This game hasn't much to offer, poor quality graphics all round but what I find the most annoying are the oddly drawn characters that somehow keep shifting their weight from left to right, very strange. That alone made me leave the demo quite quickly. The game doesn't wide screen and keeps a good 1.5 in of black screen on each side. The modern music does not fit the period in which the story is set. The story line, although nothing new, could have been fun if only the whole package had been better conceived. December 16, 2012
AN EASY PASS It's not even clear when this story is supposed to be happening? The costumes don't seem to belong to any period but instead are a mishmash of several. Could use some artistry. Voice acting is terrible. Graphics not crisp and clear. Gameplay appears linear and simple - not much in the way of simultaneous tasks. Music is supposed to create a tense atmosphere, but is off. Not worth even playing the demo. December 16, 2012
Same old thing Once again it just seems like we're playing the same game over and over with just a tiny bit of difference and for a collectors edition I prefer something a little more original. For me there are far too many h.o. scenes and the mini games are far too easy even though I am playing on a difficult mode. Not for me I'm afraid. One day we might get something original again. Bum Rap First, I never do reviews, or buy games because of them, but I think this one got a bum rap. I played the demo and thought it was a good game. There are a lot of HO scenes in it but you usually get something you need from them. The story line is very good. The hint recharges quickly. Always try the demos and make up your own mind if you like the game or not.... just saying :-) December 16, 2012
Whitehall?? I love this game! I just finished playing my hour & it seemed like I'd only been playing for a few minutes. It was over way too soon. I thought the graphics were excellent, the HO's were very clear & it seemed like the people's mouths were coordinated with the words! I would definitely buy this game! December 16, 2012
Adventurer's Delight Plot: Girls are being abducted, and you, the detective, have been hired to investigate. As always, I don't like to give the plot away, as it is part of the intrigue. Options: Sound FX, Music, Voice, Full Screen, Custom Cursor, Mute all Sounds. Extras: Strategy Guide, Bonus Mystery: Uncover the truth about abductions from 100 years ago, Wallpaper and Music. Other Games by these developers: The Missing: A Search and Rescue Mystery Strange Cases: The Lighthouse Mystery Strange Cases: The Secrets of Gray Mist Lake Strange Cases: The Tent Card Mystery Difficulty Levels: (I always play in Easy to review) Easy ? Skip and hint recharge in about 30 seconds and there are sparkles in active zones. Normal ? Skip and hint recharge in a longer period of time and there are no sparkles. Hard ? No Skips, Hints or Sparkles. Hidden Objects: Fairly easy to see, few and far between, some items in red require a bit more effort to find. Puzzles: Many more puzzles than hidden object scenes ? no too hard so far. Conversations & Walking: People who like pure HO will not take to this game. It requires that you speak to many people, and there is quite a bit of walking around. Adventure gamers on the other hand, this is similar to some of the new Sherlock Holmes games. Map: There is a map which shows where you are and areas of interest, but it will not allow you to navigate and it takes a bit of effort to understand. Strategy Guide: 1 Chapter but it seems like it will be a fairly long game. Overall, the game seems well done to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time. December 16, 2012
A shadow kinaps young women........... Played 30 minutes, easy - 3 modes, easy, normal, hard - Integrated SG which only shows one chapter, it doesn't mention a bonus chapter in the extras - Voice overs - Notebook - Map, you can jump from one place to another and it shows areas of interest - Beautiful animated characters - Hint refills quickly in easy mode - H0, you interact, you sometimes have to perform an action to access them - Good mini games - Skip button which fills very quickly - Gorgeous graphics - Good music Young women are being kidnapped by a shadow. You're the detective and investigate with the help of a little boy. This looks like a very good game, a straight buy for me. December 16, 2012
