Royal defense review and tips Am average computer game person. Agree with others that the levels seem misnamed sometimes - easy often hard, but have got 3 stars on all 20 of each of easy/normal/hard of the green game and all 20 of the easy section of the snow games so far. Trick is to find an easy level and do it over and over to build up jewels to buy weapons etc to max. If no money on start-up screen, freeze trolls at a crossover point and wipe out with meteor shower, swamp, & earthquake to get startup funds. Game can't be judged in a 1 hour trial. April 13, 2013
Easy is not Easy at all! Playing on easy and it's not easy at all. However, with some wise strategy it's doable and interesting. BUT! Just arrived to level 17 in Easy mode and it's a nightmare! You start with 0 gold and 0 buildings! You use the skills to kill few of the wolves, but it's by far not enough for a decent weapon... or any weapon whatsoever. If you need to update the stuff (like more money from monsters), it's around 10-15 crystals. But in some cases the monsters drop only 1-2 crystals per level, it's annoying to think I need to redo previous levels over and over just to gain crystals as I already have 3 stars for them. Quite annoying. March 15, 2013
Horrible!!!! This is easily THE WORST TD game I have ever played. It captures your interest just enough to get you to purchase it...then it gets just IMPOSSIBLE and no fun at all. Do not waste your money or credits on this one! April 28, 2013
Challenging Variety I read ALL of the reviews and agree that it can be tough. I play a lot of TD games and find this one interestingly unique. The DEVs created a gem but could have polished it more for a better shine is all. Overall, it rocks! Many levels involve a "trick" starting strategy that once you learn it, the level becomes much easier. As others have said, just keep trying different approaches. In defense of the DEVs, maybe they intentionally gave each level only 4-6 waves so you don't waste time figuring it out. I love Toy Defense, but imagine learning on level 20+ you have the wrong strategy and have to start over... ha.... ha. The variety of this game is amazing. Tower upgrades that can be converted to totally differnet functions, enemies that heal, enemies that sleep towers AND create units, and being able to cast spells onto the map. Wow! Love it. I've played through the 1st campaign on easy without having to go back to levels to get more gems fortunately. I can imagine I may have to on harder difficulties. But once again, the DEVs have provided a way for those who are getting stuck. The graphics go well with the theme, and for a change I've left the pleasant music on low. The gun sounds could be better. When I first started I thought the Dart and Cannon towers were shooting spit wads. I wanna hear Big Booming noises coming out of my defenders as mad, raving hordes race across my Kingdom, COME ON!!!! They got better. The artillery and sniper sounds are more appropriate, thanks. The queen and I sleep better now, hehe. Would be nice when upgrading/buying towers to see some numerical data on the effects and which units it can shoot. ie ground or flying. Overall, job well done DEVs. I'm sure I'll be playing this for quite awhile as it can be HARD! April 27, 2013
I've played much better This game really isn't exciting, and you don't "save money," nor do you really "learn spells." Each level comprises of the hordes coming down winding paths and you, if given any money to start the level at all, have to put gradually increasing powerful guns at certain points along the way. It is like Bloom 4, the monkey dart game that is online, but far from the excitement. Most levels have no more than five waves of enemies, so you rarely have time to upgrade, and the "spells" are given to you after a few levels. You don't actually learn them. Over time you collect gems (although I haven't figured out how you actually do it - they just appear sometimes on your screen), with which you buy upgrades for your guns. All the money you acquired killing the hordes of enemies each round? Gone. You can't carry it over to the next round OR purchase upgrades, OR purchase gems. You also can't control your guns. You can't tell one to shoot at the first of the pack, and the next to shoot at the maximum range. They just shoot at the first enemy until it is out of range, then swing around and pick another target (sometimes the one in front, sometimes the one in back, sometimes one in the middle of its range.) It is very frustrating because they will often seem confused, like they don't know which one to shoot at, and waste shooting time trying to pick a target. All in all, I wish I had not purchased the game. It was fun in the beginning, but after several hours of playing, I'm let down. Short levels, no way to truly "save your money," like they say you can, and stupid guns you can't control. TOY SOLDIERS is much, much better. April 19, 2013
Challenging Yet Not Impossible This one has some unique strategy that takes time to figure out on some levels. Can be difficult but far from impossible. March 8, 2013
Tough But Fun Tower Defense Game I'm generally loathe to review something that I haven't finished playing, but at the rate I'm going I'll be three weeks dead before I finish this game! It's hard and a bit frustrating but I still really like the game. There are three levels to the game, and "easy" is very hard! I can't imagine even trying the medium level. As with all tower building games, there are different towers that do different kinds of damage. As you go up in levels, upgrades become available to the towers, as well as new towers. There are various spells that do different kinds of damage and renew after a set period of time. There is also a "gold mine" to help you get gold, and with upgrades can even help more. As the levels progress the monsters get tougher. Heck, not just tougher, they also start getting resistant to various spells or tower upgrades. As another reviewer mentioned, you will wind up going back over previously played levels to gather enough gems to buy further upgrades -- how fast a spell regenerates, how much damage a spell or tower does, how much they cost, how much or fast a mine generates, and more. But as you go back over previously played levels you get to keep the upgrades you've made since, making the level easier and usually even more enjoyable. It's slow going and there's a lot of replaying levels, but the challenge remains and it's still a lot of fun. My biggest complaint --one that keeps it from being a five star review-- is that you are given information about changes only when they're made available. In the middle of a level and cannot remember which upgrade does what? You'll have to guess, as there's no in-game guide to what's what. That's kind of annoying. Otherwise, if you like tower defense games, you'll like this one. February 11, 2013
Very good but flawed I was stuck on the first level of this game for 5 or 10 minutes so I initially did not like it at all. After playing a bit more and advancing a few levels I can say that this is a pretty solid tower defense game but it has a flaw that may make it frustrating for the average gamer. There seems to be a problem with the pacing and it can sometimes be impossible to avoid taking damage at certain intervals in the turn cycle when the enemies come at you. This does not mean you are guaranteed to lose, but it can make the game considerably more difficult than it needs to be and adds pointless frustration from the repetition that is involved with this issue. Besides that, the graphics and theme are very nice, although the use of futuristic looking "cannons" against mythological creatures is a bit humorously odd. The music is nothing special and the sounds are decent. If you can see past the pacing issue I'd say this is a great tower defense game. Recommended. February 5, 2013
Actually requires some thought to complete This is a good strategy game that requires some thought to complete. Difficult to get three stars on some of the later levels but all the more interesting for that February 2, 2013
Glad i didn't listen to all the neg feed back! I thought the game was fun. If you like strategy games then this is a good one. Keep you thinking because you really have to watch how things move to see where to put the cannons n stuff. Enjoyed it! February 1, 2013
