good HOS game Another good grim facade game. The music I turned down. The graphics are real good and has voice over. The HOS are about like all the others. Hint works good and you have other things to find throughout the game. It is a ERS game so that tells it all. March 21, 2013
Comfy Slippers Based on the demo, this game feels like the equivalent of putting on a comfy pair of slippers (hence the title). It's very obviously ERS, not least because the background music is *exactly* the same as a couple of their other games! For me, that one aspect made the game feel a bit "same old same old", because it created such a feeling of deja vu. That said, there's nothing especially wrong with the game formula per se - it just doesn't feel particularly new or exciting, which is a shame. It's like they take the same basic ingredients, mix them together a bit differently each time, and hey presto - a game! This time around you are a detective hunting the murderer of Hugo, who seems to have been a bit of a philanderer by all accounts. But "whodunnit"? The wife? Mistress? Mistress' husband? #Or, like all good whodunnits, is there a disgruntled butler lurking around somewhere?? Lol#. Like the others in the series, you have a shop in which to buy things with the gold coins you collect throughout the game. The Hint system is the same too - it's not unlimited, you have to collect feathers to increase the number of hints at your disposal. This, of course, prevents you from using the button indiscriminitely, but I do prefer having unlimited hints! There were 4 Hidden Object scenes in the demo I played. Two were a list of objects #a few of which were interactive#. One was "find 12 of" a certain item. And one was the more 'modern' take on HOGs, which was finding items then using them to uncover other objects, and so on. I did like that the devs varied the types of HOG. The puzzles were fairly routine, and not too difficult. Scenery was as you'd expect from these devs - hand drawn, lovely to look at, slightly hazy and almost a sort of 'soft focus'. You could look at a screenshot and know *exactly* who created this game! I might buy this game, and possibly the CE too #it has a number of extras including replaying HOGs, replaying puzzles, a 'Trivia' section and a 'colouring book' as well as the usual #and, to me, useless# offerings of wallpapers, screensavers, music and concept art#. However, I think I'll most likely either wait for a sale or use Game Credits to buy it. February 28, 2013
Could have been great, but..... Typical of most ERS games, this game has stunning graphics, lovely cut-scene and good voice-overs. Bu the downside to most of these games is that they all sort of meld together - and this is no exception. There is nothing that really stands out, or is particularly memorable. The hidden object games were only marginally interactive, and generally very easy. A couple had you looking for an item when there was another of that item in the main background - which was very frustrating. Hidden object games also had annoying sparkles, even on the hardest mode. The were no achievements to earn or extra hidden items. There were fans to collect, but that was only for your hint bar (which I didn't use). Puzzles were far too easy, and nothing really original. The story itself could have been great, but i found myself losing interest when we discovered who the culprit was only half way through the game. The bonus chapter followed on from the main story, but wasn't essential to it. If anything it seemed 'tacked on'. It was the same calibre as the main game, but was quite short. Whilst this game was still very enjoyable to play, I'd recommend the SE version as the bonus chapter was poor, and the game too easy to need the strategy guide. March 5, 2013
REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME One of the best games to come out of ERS, ever. The fun factor is huge and I just loved playing it. For once, there is not a trace of the occult or the supernatural. It is a straight murder mystery with a really good plot and a great twist in the end. Unfortunately you have to play the BC to get to it. SE players will have an abrupt ending. THANK YOU ERS. Your story is such a refreshing change. There are coins to collect for 3 different shops. Fans to collect to boost the hint button so you do not have to wait for it to recharge. You have the cutest companion, a bat-eared fox. He does not go into your inventory, but accompanies you on-screen and he is just adorable. There is a cute puppy, a beautiful horse, a chubby squirrel and a hungry owl. Also a cuddly hamster in one iHOS. The graphics are beautiful and the mechanics are flawless. As well as the usual extras, you can replay the mini games and iHOS and there is a quiz on the game where you win prizes. Well, in theory you do. Obviously you cannot literally win anything. The cut scenes are quick and the graphics in them, especially the faces, are so well done they look real. Dialogue is clickable and there is not much of it to distract, for those who dislike a lot of talking. You are accompanied by an assistant, but really he does not do much assisting. Still, he was fairly interesting. As always the puzzles are not very challenging. The iHOS are beautifully done, list as well as silhouette - the find something to use on something to get something type. There is a great game called sucker darts in the first shop that I really enjoyed. So, no wide screen, map or achievements and yes, it is an easy game. But it is so entertaining and the hint button is very helpful that a map is unnecessary, lack of wide screen I cease to notice and achievements, well I never earn them all anyway. An admirable game that I will replay for sure, and not in the too distant future either. Very well done. February 28, 2013
Too Short for CE even with Bonus Play Enjoyable game. In expert mode it is not that difficult and there are plenty of hints available. Some play was not logical or I missed the clue that would make it logical (i.e. the use of the red bow), or you had to go back to areas that you thought were completed only to discover new options -- those are the only times I used my hints. Unfortunately, the game is way too short and not the same value as most other CEs. With the bonus play, this came makes a good SE. But without the bonus play, even too short for an SE. March 2, 2013
Impressive I'm very much enjoying this game, particularly as the sound and graphics and voices are so well done. The story is also interesting, and the game moves along very well. There's quite a variety of easy but fun puzzles, and the HOS are a bit crowded, but then again, it is a search. February 28, 2013
Really good game I gave it an overall rating of 5 stars because of the especially good story line, the nice graphics, the voice overs were well done, and the smooth flow of the game. Also, as mentioned previously, the lack of blood and gore was refreshing. I did not miss skulls, vampires, skeletons, etc. at all. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. February 28, 2013
Too short! While it is in line with the Grim Facade gaming franchise, I was shocked at how quickly I finished it. Thank goodness there was a bonus chapter! I'm not one of those reviewers that goes into all the intricate details of each game, so I just like to tell people how I actually enjoyed playing the game (or not). I love the little fox, he's adorable; and the scenes are beautiful. I just wish it was a lot more challenging, I wish it had morphing objects or collectibles or achievements or SOMETHING. A little too straight-forward and simply not long enough for the price. March 1, 2013
Totally excellent! Wow...this game has it all! The artwork is so beautiful...you could just watch it and follow the story without even having a game. The story is a really good one, though, and the HO scenes are different each time; some with outlines, some with lists and sometimes you have to look into inset scenes within the HO. The devs put a lot of work into the playing part as well as the visuals. The mini games are also slightly different and a lot of fun. The VOs are really good for a change and the background music is also fun and slightly spooky. There doesn't seem to be a map, but I didn't really need one. ..not too much back and forthing. Hidden fans give you added clues and you need to find coins to buy things you need. The cute fox accompanies you and assists from time to time. The journal keeps track of clues for each suspect, and also keeps track of the story. The hint button seems to be directional only outside of HOs. As I have said before, these are my favourite devs and they do not disappoint with this one! February 28, 2013
Husband murdered in Spain, you're the detective Played 35 minutes, casual - 3 modes, casual, advanced, master of investigation, you can swap mode while playing - Trophies to get - Integrated SG which nonly shows 3 chapters in the sample - Diary with information + clues and suspects - No map - Throughout the game you collect gold coins - A cute fennec, fox from the desert, follows you around - You collect more hints by finding fans in H0 or anywhere around - Hint is useful outside H0 - H0, you interact, only came across one in the 35 minutes I played - Good mini games, regular ones - Very good graphics A woman's husband is murdered, you investigate as a detective (action takes place in Spain). Unfortunately you get an assistant that keeps popping up every five minutes to tell you silly, obvious things and he is dressed in such ridiculous, horrible clothes. The mere sight of his tie is enough to make you sick ! I'm very unsure about this game, will wait, definitely no straight buy. February 28, 2013
