Buy It On Sale BASED ON COMPLETED GAME How we got involved in this mess is never explained, but we find ourselves on a deserted blimp as it?s about to self-destruct. A guy in a red hood tells us we must SAVE A LITTLE GIRL, which I?m in favour of, but his behaviour is odd, and I just can?t trust him. On the ground, we?re left to fend for ourselves in a strange MEDIEVAL CASTLE on a snow capped peak. Despite repeat appearances from the other characters, the story does not really occupy us. That?s left for the gameplay. Plenty of both HOs and PUZZLES in this one. I would think there was something for everyone. HOs are two types, LIST by words and by silhouette. The games are not very hard, although I did have to use the DIRECTIONAL HINT quite a bit to find out what to do next. It was not very obvious. Also, this is a geographically large game, with NO MAP, and inventory is often overflowing as you wander about trying to find that puzzle where the widget was needed. With NO WALKTHROUGH, and actions which I would have called a mini-game or puzzle having no skip option, it was touch and go for a while whether I?d be able to finish at one stage. (Thank you forum fishies). Also, SKIP is quite slow even on Casual. So, while not being particularly hard, it still was a challenge. This is not a long game, and there is nothing that makes it stand out, but it?s a decent little game. Picked up on sale, it?s not a bad buy. April 27, 2013
Good use of a free game coupon! I am enjoying "Timeless: The Lost Castle" very much, and cashed in a free game ticket after 40 minutes of the Demo. While there are no voice-overs, collectables, morphing items or a map, for a Standard Edition game, it has a lot to offer! The graphics are beautiful and nicely detailed, the music is good, and the puzzles are a nice mix. The story-line is enough to make me want to find out what happens next, and there is just the right amount of reading to do. Hidden object scenes have lists or outlines and are challenging without being frustrating. All in all, I am looking forward to playing this one today, as I can't get out from under all the snow we got here in the Lake Ontario region! February 9, 2013
several hours of enjoyment Great game especially for a SE. It took me about 3 hours to complete the game. Well worth the $$ or game credit. February 10, 2013
oh what fun I really enjoyed this game, it put my grey matter to work and it was fun. There were times you really had to figure out what to do next and not spoon fed the answers, I like that it gives you a sense of accomplishing something, fun fun fun! Give it a try, I dont think you will be disappointed February 22, 2013
Brilliant This is an excellent game especially as it is not a CE I really enjoyed it and recommend it February 18, 2013
Excellent Possibly the best game I have ever played! If there were more like this one...I would be a happy gamer! February 26, 2013
A Beautiful Challenge This review is of the complete game. I would put this game in my top five adventure games from BFG. The graphics in the first part, when you are on the airship, reminded me of Myst. The scenes were beautifully rendered and detailed. Little did I know that was just the beginning! The game kept chugging along with new doors to open and new rooms and environments to explore. The level of challenge was high...I switched from Expert mode to the middle difficulty level so I had the benefit of a slightly more detailed hint system. The puzzles were different and for the most part fun. There were a couple that I skipped, not because of difficulty but because the instructions on how to complete them were unclear. There were two instances (chalk and keys on door) that seemed as though the pixels had to be perfectly aligned to an unclear standard, and one was not skippable. I don't like hidden object scenes, but the few that were included in this game were interactive and enjoyable. I found myself actually relieved to find one because I knew it meant I would get objects to use elsewhere. The best thing about this game was the beauty of the scenes and the level of challenge. I really felt I was trapped in a castle and it was up to me to figure it all out. I liked the somewhat vague hints as they added to the challenge. I don't know that this game is for everyone, but it was a great game for me, and I'd love to see more from this developer. February 23, 2013
Fun, but more difficult then it should be at times I enjoyed playing the game, though it was difficult to follow at times. Part of the time it was easy to figure out where to go and what to do next, but at other times it was incredibly hard to figure out where to go or what to do. I'm an experienced HO and adventure game player, so it was frusterating when I had to use the hint button.I found the game more interesting in the beginning and by the end I was ready to be done with it. There is a flaw at the end of the game that makes one task incredible difficult. I had to use the forum for help with it. Overall, the story line is interesting and the graphics are pretty good. Hard Puzzles, Good Graphics TITLE?Timeless: The Lost Castle VERSION?Standard Edition (full game) DEVELOPER?Boolat Games GENRE?Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure (fantasy) STORYLINE?Haunted by nightmares of a red-cloaked figure, you board a flying ship for Europe but find yourself diverted to a castle amidst snow-covered mountains. You're tasked with releasing the spirit of a young girl, and soon discover that treachery is afoot. GAMEPLAY?The Lost Castle is a puzzle-heavy adventure game with both list and silhouette HO scenes here and there. For a change, the puzzles are exceedingly difficult, not the throwaway time-wasters we're used to. You'll be firing some neurons on this one! The HO scenes are, for the most part, fairly simple with some interactive elements. INTERFACE?Standard point 'n' click traveling and picking up of items. Your cursor changes to an eye to examine, a hand to pick up, and turning gears when an item is needed. Also, the jewel set in the cursor turns blue when you mouse over an area of interest, something that's easy to miss. You have the usual hint button as well as a journal which records your adventure and clues you discover. Something new: you also have a magic lens which reveals invisible items. It flashes when you can use it. TECHNICAL?Not truly a bug, but there are several puzzles where clicking to pick up a piece, then clicking to place it does not work. You must drag 'n' drop each piece. Remember this and it'll save you a LOT of hair=pulling. GRAPHICS?Quite beautiful background vistas, textures, and item renders. The HOS were clearly defined and the perspective and proportion were good. The colors were fantastic. Animation was minimal. CUTSCENES?Stuttering animation. Not lifelike. MUSIC?Honestly, I didn't really notice it, so it must have been minimal and not annoying. SOUND?Appropriate and not irritating is about all I can say. VOICEOVER?None. SUMMARY?The only things holding me back from a 5-star rating on The Lost Castle are the lack of voiceovers, decent animation, and music. The storyline, while not unique, was fairly well-done and the ending was not abrupt. The graphics were beautiful. The puzzles were really well thought out. I definitely recommend this game if you like puzzles. February 20, 2013
WOW! Fantastic game Game is long and very challenging. I felt I really got my moneys' worth with this one. No, it had no voice over but I learned to read many years ago. I had to use forum for a few answers but not many. February 21, 2013
