These devs hit the target one more time !
An old man sitting in his rocking chair prepares to read his book. Suddenly smoke starts coming out of the book ... a skull ... and ... playing only to discover this mystery. Beware of the woman in white, cold as death
Cutscenes with real people, extremely well done, making you feel inside the game.
Excellent graphics, as well as music and VO.
The fun and cute raven with glasses, named "Hamlet", will help you on this excellent HOPA. He is the keeper of the city's history.
Interactive and challenging HOS, some new mini games others known but with something different.
22 Goblins to collect!!
3 play modes
8 chapters plus bonus chapter
Interactive map
I played twenty minutes and decided to buy!
Highly recommended

4.5 - Very enjoyable game - bonus review at bottom
*REVIEW OF FINISHED GAME on hardcore* (all ratings are out of 5 - so 3/5 for hardness)
Very pleasant elephant game ? great sharp graphics (and recently they haven?t always been like that especially in HOS) nice variety of hardness in puzzles, achievements and collectables.
The hallowed legend is about Hel ? a mythological being and as it?s Nordic ? expect lots of ice and snow. As I don?t know any of this fable I have no idea how many fables are mixed up or how ?true? it is. The plot is told through your helper the raven (whose voice is excellent) as well as some, but not many live actors and some more ?static? cutscenes. Taking comments about lip synch not matching, here they don?t speak but go into static non moving lips dialogue boxes.
The story was nice enough but a bit too much of Hel for my liking as I never warm (pardon the pun) to creatures/ice queens/witches like that, it?s not my favourite storylines but I enjoyed the 'people' side of the plot.
Gameplay is exactly the same as elephant?s usual ? black bar tips on hardcore, map tips, change mode during play, never repeating HOS, not that many of HOS and no random click penalty.
I do wish the black bar tips they would disable in hardcore but they rarely if ever do, sometimes it?s more noticeable than others and here it is.
HOS (hidden object scenes)
They have two different types of HOS. One was the typical interactive list type and the other was the same kind as in the MCF latest games ? the small fragment of a scene and you have to find the scene and put the fragment back into it. While I don?t mind the latter if there isn?t much of it ? it was on the formulaic too much side for me ? find all of them in a set which activates the fire book to melt ice throughout the game.
There were 12 list HOS and 7 sets of the small picture type. I appreciate it was something a bit different (for them) but coupled with the list type and a lot of find ?2? parts of items throughout the game, it felt slightly more HOS heavy in the balance of puzzle/hos ratio and it?s not my favourite kind. I did appreciate they were back to the bright, sharp colourful scenes that sometimes they don?t have.
11 Puzzles (there was one that didn?t have a hint button on it)
Sometimes they give us very simple puzzles and while some weren?t hard and very straightforward to do, some of them have a nice facelift to them and a couple I was at for a while. While gameplay wasn?t hard (especially if you use map with those tips) because the puzzles weren?t so simple it didn?t feel as easy which was good. Put that with the harder to see collectables (I think one in each scene) it was a nice laid back game for me.
Reading all this ? nice puzzles, great graphics, it all sounds wonderful but if you only buy the occasional HOPA, this isn?t the first one that would come to mind ? the must have, it?s more of a nice to have. I don?t know why, I just wasn?t enthralled with it but then again, do you have to be with every game?
There was a scene at the very end and I thought the imagination and thought that went into was so clever ? so whimisical that if they brought more of that throughout the game, it would have risen this game up to the wow type level of gameplay.
CE extras
Achievements (these are hidden and the game won?t tell you what they are but I did get them all. Spoiler ? It?s just your typical ? don?t use hints in HOS and don?t skip puzzles, get all collectables, play bonus. You don?t need to play on hardcore and I think you can even use hints in gameplay and the rest is pure gameplay.)
22 Collectables
Music
Screensavers
Concept art
Bonus game
SG
Bonus play
4 puzzles, 4 list HOS (no small picture type hos)
It was a bonus (not needed to finish the main story and was a 100% complete ?bonus? story) plot, everything tied up in SE main game. Most of it was in old area ? slightly changed ? more ice etc. About 4 locations were new. It was along the samelines of the main game, quality was there. It took me 1hr 20 mins but 15 mins (? ) must have been in one puzzle. While I enjoyed it, bonus plots and gameplay on it?s own rarely excite me, it?s the ?trappings? of the CEs that make me want it.
I will say that the previous Hallowed legend extras (achievements) were in the SE, so I?d say wait and see or get it in a sale.
Very pleasant game, just not jumping up and down about it, ie saying it could be one of the best games of the year.
Time 4hrs 20 mins (at least 30 mins were on 2 puzzles) playing hardcore
Bonus another 1hr 20 mins (15 on one puzzle?)

Elephant Genius Trumpets Again
Played advanced level and what impressed me from the 1st was live actors with an opening scene that drew you into the story immediately.
Although we've been down this road before--an uninhabited and deserted city due to an evil sorceress who steals souls, Elephant Devs make for entertaining games and this one is no exception.
Interactive map, collecting "items" and achievements. I don't ever remember another game where a hidden object scene could be skipped, however, Adventure gamers may enjoy being able to skip one or two in Hallowed Legends: Ship of Bones.
Very encouraging that Devs listen to us gamers and try to provide something fun for everyone!
Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Seems Hel Is Freezing Over After All!
GAME COMPLETED TWICE
Forgive me I couldn?t resist. How about:
Interesting, Engrossing, & Beautiful
I loved the opening video to this game, but I?m blowed if I understand its relevance to the story that follows. The story was handled particularly well, I thought. Not just dialogue, but also video, notes and narration from the ?respected Raven? Hamlet, spread out well throughout the game. Never boring, even on my second playing. I like what this series does with slightly exotic legends, adding a little credibility to the story through recognisable bad guys.
Everyone else has told you how beautiful this game certainly is, its graphics, cutscenes and sound content are all first class. Have just finished my second playing, and I?m as thrilled as the first. And tired ? this is a long game. There weren?t so many locations, but there was a lot to do in each, with plenty of interactive HOs and new, intriguing but not overly difficult puzzles.
Some of what makes this game special is the Book Of Fire. Not only is it an invaluable weapon against this icy goddess, it comes with a new type of mini-game that is excellent fun. I hope to see more of it. The game also has few of the usual clichs ? I?m not sure, but I think there was only code to collect.
Although it has no journal, it?s not missed, and the interactive jump map will get you where you need to go.
Bonus Content Review *****
Bonus game play was short (about 25% of the main game), included 4 new locations and 7 old ones (but they were all radically altered). The story itself is a little odd, more fanciful than the main game, but fun anyway. I?m glad I bought the CE.
The other extras included are:
Strategy Guide ? very good. I didn?t use it often, but to push for all the achievements, I used it instead of Hint
Achievements ? The usual
Collectible Goblins ? Not easy to find, 22 in all, one per scene. Last page of SG will give locations.
Wallpaper (excellent), Screensaver, Concept Art, Music
I recommend this as a CE game!

Welldone CE!!! Lots of Extras!!! :)
Played and loved the 2 previous Hallowed Legends and was very curious about this one...
Sharp and detailed graphics with real actors. Thrilling, mysterious and eerie story....
3 modes to choose from. 8 chapters plus bonus-chapter.
Hint is very useful outside the hidden object scenes: Tells you what to do next (refills quite fast, at least in the 2nd mode) We have a map, which allows you to jump. And we'll get a raven as a helpful friend (love that:))
Good mix of slightly interactive junkpiled HOS, with some items really hard to find and not too challenging, interesting minigames.
Further more we can earn a lot of achievements and there are 22 very well hidden goblins to find!!!
More options than usual: You are able to adjust the sound (music, effects, enviroment and voice), graphics (gamma) and you can activate special effects, custom curser, full- and widescreen.
Bonus content: bonus-chapter, wallpaper, concept art, music, screensaver and strategy guide.
Yes, this CE is worth it's price! High recommendable for those who love dark and eerie games!!! :)

I'm Tired
I think this developer should buy those who play their games a new pair of running shoes, because all you do in their games is run back-and-forth and back-and-forth. At least they are consistent - an object you need is NEVER found in the location it is needed. Gets tiresome!
This game is an excellently produced game, as usual. The story, while an interesting concept, is not well told - there isn't a journal, for example. Game play is very poor and includes matching pictures with the background, and they are all over the place, surprise, surprise. You use a book to melt some ice, while a flame thrower, whatever for other ice. Talk about dumb. There is the required cute little critter to "help" you - a raven with glasses and a bad attitude. The HOS and puzzles are the same as always and are OK. The HINT button tells you exactly what to do, again, as usual. The included map allows jumping and does give some indication of where action is needed.
I think that I will give up on this developer. While their games are great productions, they aren't any fun. Instead, they are tedious.

No Bones About it....REFRESHING, UNIQUE, FUN GAME
REVIEW BASED ON COMPLETED GAME IN 2nd (Advanced) of 3 modes), black bar hints, but no sparkles.
SUMMARY
--------------
This game is a grabber from the first cut-scene when an old man sitting by a toasty fire discovers more in his book than dust mites.
The story quickly moves to what is now a defunct town crawling with Zombies all in need of something before they will help as well as the Museum where the ancient and bony ship resides.
Though the subject matter might sound gruesome, the game is not. The scenes are bright and beautiful, with humor and whimsy woven throughout game play.
Even the music is terrific! Go Figure. --a mix of Jazzy Piano and Spooky strings (Not unlike "Tubular Bells" from the original Exorcist movie).
The artwork/graphics design, Voice Overs, Cut Scenes, and music were harmonized to maintain an ambiance of mystery, intrigue, and a little bit o' the creepy while keeping tongue firmly planted in cheek.
There was a good balance between iHOS, mini-game, and adventure and had the bells and whistles many expect from CEs these days.
DETAILS
--------------------
STORYLINE: First and foremost for me was having bits and pieces around the fantastic discovery of the ship of bones, infighting to make it available to the public before proper analysis, a mysterious psychic, leak out from various sources.
THEME & AMBIANCE: The artwork, characters such as a ferocious ice dog with spikes like a porcupine, and icy-crackly sound effects, really got across that IT WAS COLD. Those who chill easily or who are fed up with Winter themes might want to wear an extra pair of socks or play the game in the summer! :)
ARTWORK, DESIGN, GRAPHICS: I was a little reminded of H.R. Giger the guy who created the creatures for the movie Alien, only the creatures in this game are very cool looking but not gruesome or dark. Designers THANKS for thoroughly utilizing various areas within each scene rather than leaving a number of "pass-through" scene that might be nice to see but otherwise don't seem to have much purpose.
FIRE BOOK: I am not sure what I think of this gimmick, but the book sits on the lower left of the screen. When supernatural help is needed runes appear that must be matched against scenes already visited. Completing this would ignite the book to overcome cursed areas, Ice Dogs, and other enemies.
JUMP MAP: The simple, elegant design of having Polaroid style photos of scenes visited and which of these has available actions. Without it, there would be a lot of schlepping to locate runes when time to ignite the book.
SIDE-KICK: There is Hamlet, an aged Raven with bifocals helps reach things making sassy comments and adding story details. - I just wish they'd let us keep the gaff so we could reach things on our own! :)
COLLECTIBLES/ACHIEVEMENTS: There are 22 Goblins to seek and find. There are achievements it seems for just about everything because boxes seemed to pop up all over the place.
IHOS a plenty: Areas were typically used only once which I always appreciate. The scenes were beautiful and rich in detail. -No junk pile style, no overcrowding. Interaction was basic, feeding a mouse to get a "sated mouse" or stacking Russian dolls, move curtain to reveal, etc.
MINI-GAMES: These were all well done, beautifully designed and detailed, with a variety of games from the familiar piece together a photo or arrange tiles to make a picture to some new ones which would be tough to describe here. Though puzzles are my favorite so I avoid skipping any, but made exceptions for this game.
ADVENTURE: There are a lot of areas to explore, a lot of items to collect, and some cool things to construct. I had to double back a couple of times for items I had missed.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND: I appreciate the originality, the incredible graphics, artwork, and design and what must have been Herculean efforts that went in to this game.

hallowd legends :ship of bones
First of all the ratings were low because I find live actors distracting. It's like the difference between a book and a movie. I enjoy a good game for the art work and being transported into a new world. Live actors bring it back to everyday life.
the first two games of this series were very good.
The game did advance in a nice way. some objects were hard to see.
I always play intermediate levels ...although this only had 2 modes.
Hint was useful.
storyline seemed ok not exceptional.
sound effects alright.
No buy for me.

Lady in white stealing souls of citizens
Played 35 minutes, casual
- Elephant Games
- Integrated SG which shows 8 chapters + bonus play
- Bonus contents are wallpapers, concept art, music, screensaver
- 3 modes, casual, advanced, hardcore
- No notebook
- Interactive map, areas of interest are in color
- At the beginning of the game, you get a crow, Hamlet, that will help you through the game and tell you the story of the city as the game goes on
- Throughout the game you'll have to find 22 goblins, they're not easy to spot
- You get achievements, regular ones, i.e H0 with no hint, no skip in mini games, etc
- Live characters
- Voice overs
- H0, you interact, I found them very dark but couldn't adjust the light. Some objects combine themselves in the inventory, you don't have to do it.
- Hint button useful outside H0, tells you what you have to do
- Usual mini games, nothing new up to what I played
Your plane crashes in a strange town, people there are living skeletons, a strange lady in white having stolen their souls. Up to you to solve the problem. I'm not too sure about this game, liked it but it didn't make me perform a little happy dance. Had fun in clicking on the ghosts, they scream in such a funny way, is that enough to buy a game ?

Chilling HOPA - No bones about it!
Really Creepy! If you liked the first two in the Hallowed Legends series (Templar is my favourite), this one might be for you.
When your plane crashes near the City of Erlenbourg, a raven called Hamlet warns that a woman in white will take your soul if you are not careful. He will be with you for appropriate guidance along the way. I found the gameplay and graphics similar to Samhaim, but did not find myself drawn into the story as I usually do with games from this developer. Not sure why. Kind of a been-there-done-that feeling.
There is a transporter map. The hint recharges quickly and tells you what to do next. Without a journal or task list, this is helpful. Didn't find any need to consult the SG. The HOS are interactive. (Find the valve to turn off the steam to get to the handcuffs, then use a key from the scene to open them before they can be ticked off your list.# I found this fun. The puzzles encountered in the demo are familiar and not difficult.
The cutscenes advance the story, the music #or lack of it# suits the moment, and the sound effects enhance the atmosphere ? an occasional clap of thunder and the haunting sound of a ghostly wind. This, along with the abundance of skulls and skeletons, fits well with an abandoned and cursed city. #I had to laugh, in spite of myself, at the beggar skeleton in front of the Museum who asks for alms.) There are 22 goblins to collect, achievements and a bonus chapter.
I have to admit that I found this game less compelling than its predecessors and, for me, the creepy factor was a little over the top. However, since my dislikes are based on personal preference, I do recommend that you give it a try!
