Hallowed Legends: Ship of Bones Collector's Edition 4.2 5 87 87
Excellent CE...for once. This on it's own is a great game. Yes, it's got the usual bells and whistles of an Elephant Game and may seem standard fare. But it was a wonderful way to spend a snowy day. And, for once, the CE was worth it. The game itself was of an acceptable length but the CE was very good and worth the additional cost. One I will definitely play again. March 16, 2013
very challanging I quite liked this game played it on the easy mode, still needed quite a few hints, some of the mini games I just gave up, could have had clearer directions! hos just the right ammount so I didn't get sick of them, some parts of the game flowed and I found I was getting to grips with it, others bits were real mind benders March 7, 2013
When "Hel" freezes over Storyline kept my interest. There was a lot of back/forth going on and some of the minigames (such as the maze) I couldn't get the object to move. I always get a kick out of the little "helpers" Elephant Games puts in their products. I would have rated this a five if I was able to play all of the minigames. March 25, 2013
Actually gave this a 4.5! Wow, Elephant did it again. I have the other two Hallowed Legends games and really liked them...this one does not disappoint. As usual, exceptional graphics and game play. Nice SG, which lists all of the chapters in the story (a huge plus). Very nice and helpful hint system (fairly fast recovery). Not a lot of voice overs, but what they have is very nice. Clean, clear and easy to find HOG items. Games are not difficult, but take a little thought on some. The bird is sort of fun to use (no real explanation of who he is yet). I like the need to find extra items in a game. It makes it more interesting and not just a walk through of HOGs and games to play. The story line is not new, but well done. I like the combination of real people and animated people and things. Nice break for a change. Didn't care for the "bad woman," too freaky and weird looking. Actually a bit over-done. Anyway, I must have this added to my trilogy, so a definite buy for me. Just no sure yet if I want to buy the CE or wait for the SE. Haven't been too impressed with the "bonus" chapters lately. Besides, I have way too many game credits that need to be used very soon. How about some really nice SE games for awhile. I'm sure the top devs can come up with a few. As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. February 21, 2013
Ice from Hel(l) Review based upon finishing the game and bonus chapter with all achievements. This is the third Hallowed Legends game. And this time we really have a Hallowed Legend in the game: Hel, Norse Goddess of Death, who isn't actually that bad once you get to know her... but somebody found a Viking ship in a glacier, which led to all sorts of evil stuff happening and the world freezing over. Enter the player to save the world from very high heating and electricity bills. The Good: + great graphics and very well done cutscenes + seamless integration of real actors + interactive map that shows you where there is something to do and lets you jump there + achievements (finally no difference for the modes of difficulty) + mostly clear HO scenes + story told through a raven was a nice touch + Book of Fire searches, way more lenient than Escape from Ravenhearst The Neutral: o sometimes the map shows you locations with something to do while there really is not The Bad: - all characters do not move their lips while talking - you would expect that CEs provide that by now Bonus Content: The Bonus chapter took me about an hour to complete. Hel did not make it back to her world so the ice is still there. You have to fix that situation. The usual mumbojumbo consists of 4 music pieces, wallpapers and concept art. Bottom Line: This part really steps up the technical side of things and provides a really nice story that includes a major player of Norse mythology. However, since the regular game has a satisfying ending I wouldn't hold it against you if you just take the regular edition. May 29, 2013
As dark as it gets Overall I should say that this game is very dark. Lots of bones, lots of spirits, and even the well made music supports that atmosphere. At times the atmosphere was maybe even too dark for me (even though I like it dark), which is lowered the fun factor for me. The storyline was first a bit uninteresting for me, but it improved towards the end (as I like mythologies), and we might even see a glimpse of hope - the damage can be undone after all. As usual in the hidden object games in Big Fish, the graphics are wonderful, and a lot of live actors or models have been used. But at times their antics seemed surprisingly cheesy compared to the rest of the game. There were a few spots that seemed unfinished, with dialogue not written or not translated from russian. But it shouldn't disturb the gameplay overly much. The game is challenging, and that's a good thing. The extra levels support the idea that Hel is an antagonist, but not a villain. Overall, the game has an alright after taste. April 3, 2013
hallowd legends :ship of bones First of all the ratings were low because I find live actors distracting. It's like the difference between a book and a movie. I enjoy a good game for the art work and being transported into a new world. Live actors bring it back to everyday life. the first two games of this series were very good. The game did advance in a nice way. some objects were hard to see. I always play intermediate levels ...although this only had 2 modes. Hint was useful. storyline seemed ok not exceptional. sound effects alright. No buy for me. February 24, 2013
Not impressed I was annoyed at the lack of logical flow in this game -- instead of having a natural feel to the progression of story, it seemed as if it jumped constantly from one location to another, and required way too much remembering of shapes and details that in no way fit in with the storyline. The collection of amulets to melt ice, in particular, drove me nuts, because there was no connection between the shape of the amulet and where it was placed, so I constantly found myself searching for random shapes rather than experiencing game flow. Frustrating. I finished it, but I won't play again. March 13, 2013
Could Have Been Better This game is average. Average story and average puzzles. The HO scenes are mostly junk piles although the junk is pertinent and not nearly as cluttered as some. The interactive HO's were a bit challenging and continued throughout the entire game. My biggest problem with this game is that it gradually ended up being a back and forth and back and forth run around. Going from one area to another only to collect one item and then running back to use it and finding that we now need one other item and so on. Having a Map is nice so that you don't have to waste so much time clicking but it detracts from the gameplay to be always traveling through a Map. Personally, it sort of takes me out of the story and really makes it harder to keep up with what to do. Running back and forth is okay if it is contained to a couple of scenes at a time but to run all over the entire game course isn't fun, it just gets tedious I played it all the way through but not the Bonus Chapter. I might play some other time. It's an okay game but it could have been better. February 23, 2013
