Love this game! Interesting creepy story! Cute fluffy creature and scary beholders makes me crazy. Why this wonderfull game is not a COLLECTOR'S EDITION? Waiting for sequel! March 13, 2013
REVIEW OF COMPLETED GAME When we wake from what feels like a long dream, we sit and remember how strange it all was and all the people we met and all the thing we did, and we have a sense of the weird and wonderful. That is how the word "surreal" originated. This game is just like that. Beautifully done, with wonderful graphics and music. The Sandman is indeed a sinister and disturbing entity. I lost count of all the different locations and landscapes I visited and all amazing things I saw. Your helper is a gremlin called Benny, who is equally weird but sweet and harmless. At first the graphics seem too dark, the sounds are too loud and I wondered doubtfully whether it would be any good. But that all changed very soon. It became lighter and quite fast paced. There are achievements and collectibles but no map or wide screen so I do not know if this was originally a CE, but if it was, for some reason BF rejected it and only bought the SE. The hint and skip are fast. Half the puzzles are easy and half are hard. I only came across a few new ones. But it is the way it is made and the atmosphere that is the big draw with this one. It is a Puzzle Adventure, so no HOS. I ceased to notice quite early on, the game is so gripping. The hint button is directional, although it is fairly easy to understand where to go next and what to do. Still, I did need a few tips now and again. There are no sparkles, just cursor changes for various different interactions. It is very well made, with instant navigation and no glitches. The cut scenes and voice overs are excellent and there is a lot of animation from the characters in the cut scenes, which I instantly picked up on as it is most unusual. They perform actions and activities, which I have not seen before. As well as the collectibles, you have to find pieces of a dreamcatcher to defeat the Sandman at the end. It took me 4 hrs and I really, REALLY enjoyed it. I do not know who these Devs are. The little green dragon people distributed it but did not make it and I think they made an excellent choice and this game is a credit to them. March 13, 2013
A nightmare world This is a very clever game that as previous reviewers have stated manages to be an adventure game that HO lovers will also really enjoy The opening does not prepare you for just how good it becomes and it manages to be creepy without being horrible I loved searching out the Beholders not sure if they were meant to be insects or eyes The storyline is simple young woman who has a history of Bad Dreams falls into a coma our job with the use of a special helmet is to enter the dreams and discover who ,what and why and to rescue her from her nightmare world The large clown was enough to scare me .I was lucky enough to have played this game already and I was also surprised it wasn't the CE But it is so good I am buying now and downloading as I write this March 13, 2013
Superb Adventure-lite! Dreamscapes: The Sandman CE (Adventure-lite) Played through full game twice Options include separate sliders for voice, music, sound, and ambient volume. You can choose between two modes of play (regular and expert), plus full-screen and custom cursor. The tutorial is optional, and the HINT button is refillable. You can drag and drop inventory items on to the hint button to find out where the item should be used (there's a mini-game to get your hint, and doing so ten times will get you an achievement.) If there is nothing else to do in a particular location, using the hint button will show you which direction you should go. There is a ton to do in this game: Besides playing the game and all that entails, you also need to find 120 beholders (if you don't know what one is, you willll~! ) and find pieces of a shattered item and put it back together. We have a diary which gives us the back story. Each time we find "a" page, it will go into your diary. The thing is, the page we find is actually a group of about five pages (each time), which you will have to enter your diary to read. This is great for those who don't want to interrupt gameplay to read, and for those who don't care about the story. I personally LOVE a lot of story, and enjoyed reading every scrap of information I came across There are a few localization problems, ie. "loose" instead of "lose" and oddly-worded phrases such as "Searching the sand with bare hands is useless," but it's not terribly distracting, because it only happens occasionally, and because the game is otherwise so brilliantly-made Keep an eye out for a joke early on in the game... just keep in mind that the developers are Russian, and you won't miss the funny ;) This is my favorite kind of game -- it plays like the very best IHOG, but with no hidden object scenes! We have achievements (always fun!), a deliciously creepy atmosphere, interesting story, and gorgeous graphics/cut scenes. The only thing I don't love about the graphics is the character design, but again, the game is so good that it's a negligible point. We have an adorable little critter that seems to be part frog... meaning that it eats in the same way that a frog would. I mention it simply for the sake of those who have problems with perceived animal cruelty. I honestly wasn't bothered by this because of the way it was handled, so hopefully it won't push others' buttons, either. I managed to miss seven of the beholders during the main game -- some of them are very hard to spot! Luckily, there is a tab that appears at the left side of the screen if there are any beholders in that area to find. Clicking on the tab will show you how many you have left in that area (which may include zoom-in scenes.) I mentioned that there are achievements, but they're nothing special -- just things that you would accomplish from playing the game. What's different is that when you go to the achievements screen, you get to place each trophy (adorable!) on the screen like a jigsaw puzzle. I love it! This is a superb game, and I highly recommend it! March 13, 2013
Do not miss this one, it's a gem I was stunned when I started the demo. This game is so much fun, graphics are good, story is very well done and the wee creepy collectables add to the adorable pest who taunts you. So cute with it though. This is very difference from resent offerings, I actually had to use my grey matter to play this game, and that don't happen very often. This is a winner, check it out, you wont be sorry you did. Its a buy for me. March 13, 2013
The Sandman Cometh....... This is a nice little game. So far, there haven't been any HOS. But, I haven't felt that is a lack. It hasn't needed them. The hints are helpful & recharge well in regular mode. The Beholders are a pain, which is why, I guess, we have to find and get rid of them all. Benny is cute, I hope I see him a lot more in the rest of the game. A cross between Gizmo & a gremlin, he's cute. I bought the game after 45 minutes. Now, where is that giant club to wack the Sandman with? LOL Isn't one, just kidding. March 13, 2013
Loved it I played the demo and full game in the advanced mode. Loved it, nice little game, NO HOS which was heavenly :). There are 11 chapters and in each you search for items to use within that chapter or the beginning of the next. Throughout the game you have to find some well hidden critters, the good thing is it tells you when you have found them all in a particular location. The puzzles were not particularly challenging but were enjoyable. The game flowed nicely. I cant tell you about the music or storyline because I use the mute and skip buttons. March 13, 2013
I'M GONNA HAVE NIGHTMARES! Wow! I can't believe how much there is to do in this game. Let me begin with the story, fantastic, Laura has been dealing with nightmares all her life until her father gives her a dreamcatcher. She leaves this dreamcatcher behind and the sandman takes her and she goes into a coma that nobody understands. At the basement level of the hospital you are volunteering to don some mad scientists equipment and enter Laura's dreams and save her. This is where it get's creepy. First there's the creepy clown everyone fears, and you have to find a couple hundred eyes that when touched turn into one eyed scorpions, spiders etc. Yes there are achievements for finding things like a cute little gremlin that helps you investigate. Everything about this is different, no HOS but the mini games are new and challenging but you can skip them. The hint system only shows you available directions and the scenes scroll back and forth. You're gonna want to buy this one! March 13, 2013
A DREAM GAME FOR ME I will repeat what another reviewer wrote: Not an HOS but plays like one. Objects must still be collected in each scene that goes into your inventory. Hint - Fast recharge, gives clues and directions. Animation/Avatars/VOS - Excellent!!! Listen up, devs!! THIS is how a game should be designed! The characters should look almost human in appearance and move with fluidity which I refer to as avatars, except of course when there are live actors. :-D. Diary - Collect pages to complete story. Puzzles/Mini-Games - Unique and challenging. Even managed to solve a few. Inventory - Objects used fairly quickly in other locations. There are some scrolling scenes from left to right but from what I can remember, not many. There is a twist to the story in the end and I expect a sequel. So fishies, throw the net in and scoop this one up. Enjoy!!! May 1, 2013
