Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death Collector's Edition
Love loved the sweet little kitty
I was able to beta test this game and so glad cuz I never really played the dark tales franchise (never knew they had so much animal involvement loved that)
This games has lots of extras and goodies to keep everyone happy from the scales of justice to weigh the facts to your pet kitty(so into it I named mine) in your office where you earn stuff for him/her.
This game grabs you quickly trying to figure out who REALLY is the protagonist (aka villain)
Found items are used logically and HOS are ok( kinda over them at this point)
This game is completely user friendly and would satisfy all level and ages of players.
I usually wait for the SE, however, in this case I think the CE may be worth it. I really loved all the extras.
I just might have to go back and take a second look at the series.

Best In The Series! Really Enjoyed Every Minute of the Demo!
(Full rating is 4 1/2 stars)
It seems these days ERS are releasing a new game almost every day. One would think with the speed that these games are released, that they might be rushed. This is not the case. The demo I have just played has captivated and enthralled me, and I might just continue on!
The Storyline is your classic ?hunt the killer? one, and takes many twists and turns on the way to determining who the villain is. But who is the real villain? That?s where this gets good; you do not follow a certain path which automatically gives you the answer, YOU get to decide for yourself! The way this is set out is: You gather evidence, and you are given red spheres at certain points, and the way you place them in the scales determines who is guilty. What I love about this is it lets you come back and swap them if you change your mind. Why have we not seen more games like this? The story and this added element alone are enough to make you want to buy.
On to the HOS: There are 2 types; junkpile and silhouette. I personally preferred junkpile because it was easier, but both give you a great challenge. Junkpile scenes contained multiple ?extra step? objects, and the silhouette ones also contained a great deal of these objects.
I found that the puzzles were a mixed bag: Some easy, some hard, some fun, some not. I only came across 2 puzzles in the demo, my favourite of which was the cup one. I don?t know how they will be after the demo, but my best guess is that they will be rather challenging.
The graphics were rather well-done; the artwork and animations are great, but in my opinion, they could still use a little bit of improvement, as I felt I was looking at a 2011 game as apposed to a 2013 one. That being said, all scenes were clear, and nothing forced me to tilt my screen back, so I don?t really have an issue.
- Map is interactive. There is a camera icon at the bottom of the screen, and you must take a photo of every new place in order to make the map interactive.
- Journal is given to keep track of and review all pieces of evidence throughout the game.
- ?Scales of Justice?- Acquired some point near the end of the demo, the way this works is: You are given a number of red spheres, and you must place them either on the left or the right to determine whether the Mayor or the Red Masque is the guilty party.
- Hint and Skip recharge fairly quickly, and the hint is very useful outside HOS, unlike some previous games from this developer, which I really appreciated.
- Achievements- located in your office (another feature of the game), these are an extra thing to do in the game, and are your typical achievements like ?go through one scene without using a hint? but I found that there were a lot of misspellings and mistakes, for example: ?U ing? appeared quite frequently. (unsure if this is a CE exclusive)
- Your Office, which includes photo albums, a kitten, and framed photographs of certificates as well as your achievements (unsure if this is a CE exclusive)
- Bonus chapter where you uncover the origins of the Red Masque (CE Exclusive)
- Built-in Strategy Guide (CE Exclusive)
You may ask yourself: Is this game worth the money? Personally, I would say yes. Looking at all the extras and features of this game, I would say the CE is definitely worth the extra money, but either way, you are sure to be given one brilliant game.

Yep, I'm a Poe fan!
Here we are again with Mr. Poe and his stories. I loved EAP and as a kid, watched every single Vincent Price movie he did based on a Poe story. Yes, this is one of his stories, but based on the demo, is very, very loosely based on the actual Poe story. Hollywood does it all the time, so why not?
I have the first 3 Dark Tales and really enjoyed them...did not care for the Golden Bug, so didn't buy that one. As usual, ERS has very nice graphics and game play (only had one little problem which I will send to the techs). HOGs are very simple and clean, although you do visit the same ones multiple times...didn't put a lot of work into this one. Games are very simple and take no real thought to complete (not challenging at all).
Loved the little kitty, although there was no need for it at all. Also do not get the need for taking the pictures. How is that going to help determine who the bad guy is? Did not see anything morphing or anything extra to do, other than the pictures.
Did not care for the placement of the SG (which is good), camera and journal. They are much too close together. Do like the ability to lock the inventory bar; and like the map. Voice overs are very well done (always a major plus for any game - makes them come to life).
This game is not extremely challenging, but well done. I did not sit on the edge of my seat when it came to an end, but I did enjoy it enough to buy it. Just not sure it will be today. Trying to not buy CE games so I can use up my credits before I lose any more of them.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tases in games and you may not care for it at all. Thanks for the reviews.

Poe is turning over in his grave!!!
Edgar Allen Poe it AIN'T. The storyline is not that bad though.
Graphics are fine. Cannot remark on the sound, since I usually play with sound off.
I did not burn out any brain synapses, so the level of challenge is not too difficult. I did have to think about some things.
I had fun and that is what counts to me. Also, was long enough so I didn't feel cheated.

I guess the storyline is played out
I do not seem to care about this sequel so much. I found it tedious and at times illogical. There were areas that required a hint or random clicking because the graphics were off. Was it a translation issue? I do not know. Hints are something I am loath to do normally.
I'd wait for the SE. I am into the bonus game now and it feels as if the junior gamers created it. It is a mish-mash of busy work, puzzles and excessively repetitious.

I enjoyed it very much. I love the story line and kept my interest going in the game.
Highly recommend this game:)

It was pretty good
I own all DT:EAP games because I love detective mysteries. This one has improvement in graphics, game style but I don't know why, I prefer the older ones. The best part in this game is determining who's guilty and who's not. I am torn between choices, although honestly I don't really care much with the spheres of guilt that we have to collect in this game. I don't like the HOG puzzles, to me doesn't make much sense, like taking out burning hot form from the ember? shooting down chandelier with burning candles because it will fall? chasing away a tiger with a small dog? I mean, come on! But the graphic in this game is sharper, although in HOG scenes, you can still feel the bluriness that is ERS style. The music, as expected, same in all the game. I give A for effort from ERS team to make a better quality game, but I hope they will consider some more logic in the gameplay.

Fun hidden object game
Graphics are always my first interest, and these are pretty good. The storyline is fairly smooth, and I think I could ALMOST play through without a strategy guide. ALMOST! It also allows me play with one of my favorite critters. I'm buying it, lol.

This one was pretty good
Easy to play, Lots to do, and 2 different types of HO's. Love interaction with critters. Good characters. Art work nice, but some of the link in the room where pet kitty is had some white boxes with words which looked like a computer error. Needs to have some sort of paper background to it. So when reading what to collect it was a bit harsh on they eyes with all the ultra white background box with no boarders. I believe it is a glitch in the game.

Good Game, but not the Poe story even remotely
I get upset when stories are so changed from the original that they don't even resemble the story at all. That is what has happened here in that the storyline of this game does not follow the short story in the least bit. However, it's still a good game. The puzzles and HOG scenes seem easy, the graphics are okay, and i like the addition of achievements and a kitten. I think it would be worth the money.
