She said yes! Alan was finally going to marry his sweetheart, Catalina. She only had one small request before the wedding, to ask for her father’s blessing. The young couple travels to the small town in Mexico where her father is from, arriving just in time for the annual Day of the Dead celebration. But when he doesn’t meet them at the train station, that’s only the beginning of their problems. Is it just the heat, or did that book talk to you? Not for me This review is based on the demo only. I did finish the demo and then immediately uninstalled the game. The "guide" is the best part of this game - loopy, irreverent, many eyed and lots of fun to hang out with. The story is also good - boy rescues girl, but set on the Day of Dead in Mexico which is fun and unusual. I really liked the quirky graphics, too. What I didn't like was the game play. Every action is painfully slow. As another reviewer mentioned, turning screws takes half a lifetime. Retrieving objects is also slow. So by the time an action the game performs is done, I'd forgotten what I was doing or planning to do next. Admittedly, that may be a result of my age and brain function, but I DON'T THINK SO! The instructions for some of the mini-games were obscure and I had to check the strategy guide to get instructions about how to actually play the game. One instruction was to let the meter fill up before taking an action, but did not tell you what action you had to take to fill the meter. I also found many of the actions not particularly intuitive and was referring to the strategy guide to find out what to do next way more often than I want to be doing that. (I will demo a CE to help me decide if I want to buy the SE later on. If I can't figure out the CE without help, I generally will not buy the SE.) So overall this was a no go for me. Sorry, because I think the story with its quirks and twists might have been fun to follow through. June 22, 2013
Nice 3.5 stars! Not a bad game at all. Graphics were a bit old school in color and clarity, but nice. Game play nice. HOGS simple and items easy to find..need to find one extra item to complete. Music okay, nice voice over, sound FX okay but can be annoying at times. Games simple, but do take a little thought. Hint system helpful, but takes longer than most to refill. You have extras to find in this game and a lot of achievements to complete, so it keeps you on your toes. Does have a jump map, which is quite helpful since you return to the same areas a lot and the same HOGs. The game is not particularly challenging, but would probably appeal to all level of players. The book is "the funny guy." As I said, this is not a bad game, but for some reason I do not feel it is CE worthy. It did not make me want to run out and get it to see what happens. It is pretty easy to figure out the story line and where it was going. Looking at the number of chapters, it seems like a fairly long game. I'm not sure I will get this as an SE, or wait for a "special" and get if as the CE. Have to put this one in my puddle and think on it a bit longer. As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one quite enjoyable. Thanks for the reviews. June 23, 2013
So So.... This was a so so game in my opinion. The fun factor was okay....Some of the puzzles are different and rather easy....Nothing too strenuous. The graphics were nicely done, bringing the flair of the mexican holiday to life. The sound....Laughable....The voice acting was hardly convincing. If the love of your life just got kidnapped by a skeleton creature in Mexico....Do you think you would say "Nooo. Catalina....Come back." NO. You would say "NOOOOO!!!!! CATALLIIINNNAAA!!!" (insert Star Trek: Wrath of Khan here). In other words the protagonist is about as convincing as a fence post. Storyline...Lets face it....It's not Peter Jackson....Or even Joel Schumacher....It's the basic D.I.D. That's it. Bottom line....It's good on a rainy day but there is nothing enchanting about it. Play The Demo First!! This game was really really different. I can't decide if that's bad or good. Very cartoonish graphics which ar ok with me, music was a little annoying. The voice overs were annoying and poorly acted. It was hard to navigate at times and the game played slowly. At times it was very confusing on what to do. I had to use the hint button a lot and sometimes the guide And the hint button together. Then as I was playing the bonus round I could not set the watch down on the table like the guide and the hint button told me to do. Absolutely no where on the table to start the mini game. So I just quit. This one was just not my cup of tea. August 28, 2013
Day of the Dead flop Based on completed SE. Not much here. The story line OK, but nothing very difficult going on. The jump Map is a great help since you have to go back and forth (which I hate). OK for a time killer but not didn't really challenge me. August 26, 2013
Has it all ? cock fighting, lazy help, speech lilts..OMG. And?Somebody call PETA ;-) Well, lets start with the good. OK, fun-wise, nice puzzles and unique story and graphics. But, stereotypical and you have to shoot animals (yes, I know they are cartoons), one character says his pet had all of its bones broken, and you must "outfit" a skeletal cock and actually fight him! Putting razor spurs and a metal beak on and striking at the other cock with a sword. Unless your children are already showing behavioral "signs", I would rate this adult. July 4, 2013
Very Slow moving and boring I played the demo and found it not to my liking. It is a very slow moving game, by this I mean tasks are being performed like they are in slow motion. It is a boring game and tedious. I found the graphics just fine also the voice overs. The map is ok but no indications. Music can put you to sleep. I did like the Guide Book that talked. Not sure I would buy the game even at the SE price. I strongly recommend playing the demo before buying. I know others have gave this game and 5 stars, but I just do not see it being that great. different ? Mmm dont know what to say ,very funny book and the jokes were ok.But not a buy for me .we are all different !I think you should try the Demo and see for your selfs . June 22, 2013
Too cartoony I played about half the demo and found it very cartoony. With the exception of all the eyes the talking book reminded me of a cartoon that had something similar years ago. For someone supposedly from Mexico the female did not remember that it was hot, l even I know it is hot in Mexico and did not sound or look like someone from Mexico. I found that to be rather offensive. All in all I guess kids will like it but definitely a pass for me. Much too much like a cartoon. June 22, 2013
