Perfect game! I really like this game. No need more comments. Download and Enjoy! August 2, 2013
Grim Tales is BACK! I've played the series from the start. The last installment was a disappointment, but every series has its weak link, even MCF and the other 'big' names. Elephant came back swinging with a home run in this game. First off, the CE stuff (or "Why should I pay double for this game?"). There really are 'extras' this time around. You collect figurines that unlock an old projector style movie explaining some backstory and a few achievements (the standard fare). The bonus chapter wasn't as strong as the game - I didn't feel as invested in the story, and there were a few more mistakes: 'click boxes' much too small for the items, some typos - looks like they rushed that part a bit. It was still a good hour. Then you have the 'hall of memories' - a bonus bonus chapter that gives you another brief story as you redo all the games HOS and minigames. Nice ending. Is all that worth the price of an extra game? I'm a bit on the fence, but I don't feel cheated by getting the CE. The standard game does end conclusively. Now for the game review: THE GOOD: Creep factor was off the chart, starting with children singing a disturbing song about Bloody Mary in the background when you enter the school. Story pulled me in and held me for the whole game - I always knew what I was doing and why - again, huge improvement over last title, one of the most 'gripping' storylines I've played. I'm not sure exactly how long it was, but I do know I didn't want to put it down for too long, as I often do with these games. Started it one day, finished it the next - at least four or five hours, plus another couple hours doing all the bonus stuff. The HOS were all well done, no random junkpiles, and they kept the same style art throughout the game. The minigames ranged from easy to medium (one or two more difficult if you don't see the 'catch'). A version of fox and the hounds and a reversi/chinese checkers that you don't often see. I think the AI on those was harder when you replay them in the bonus content. Music fit the game perfectly - I already mentioned the 'song'. Kept the 'edge of your seat' feeling going. All that said, it wasn't an 'over the top' game by any stretch - maybe not for little kiddies, but anyone nine or ten or over should be fine. Hint recharged fairly quickly (I played on middle of three settings) and gives specific instructions (use this here) so I'm not sure how much of a bonus the SG really is. The map was interactive (jump) and showed where there were Things to Do(tm), but didn't list them for you this time around - I call that an improvement, your opinion may differ. THE BAD: Not much. Some typos in the Bonus Chapter, and the bonus story was much weaker than the main game. For the main, there's really not much to fault. We don't seem too concerned with what happens to the adults in the game (no spoilers, but a "Bad Thing(tm)" happens to somebody and we don't even bother to check on them). THE UGLY: Again, not much. They didn't try to get cute and switch up art styles halfway through or throw in some junkpiles to pad the HOS count. A few typos here and there (minor stuff), a couple of poor translations in the BC, that's all I can think of. If you liked the first games in the series (Bride, Legacy, Wishes) - this is them going back to those roots and doing it even better. Wholehearted recommendation for this one - even at the CE price (especially is you get it on a weekend 'special'). March 2, 2014
Worth the money for CC. This was a great game, nice and long. I don't always buy the CC games, however this bonus chapter was worth playing. November 17, 2013
Loved this game! I loved this new sequel to Grim Tales series. Last sequels were about sister's family depending too much on big sisters. But this was really good. And Bonus chapter on Mary's sad past was also great. I only wished that HOG could have had more varieties, otherwise I loved it. November 3, 2013
Another great Grim Tales game I have purchased every one of the "Grim Tales" games because they are always excellent quality. The are visually appealing, the storyline is always interesting enough, and I am partial to the map option (being able to move from one place to another using the map). The game is not frustratingly hard, nor so easy that I get bored and lose interest. This is the first collector's edition I have ever purchased and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of extra gameplay I got. I will continue to purchase "Grim Tales" games as well as games in the "Otherworld" series (also excellent games). October 24, 2013
A fun creepy HOPA CE This game gets a 5 for cleverness and creativity. There are so many little extra details to enjoy, like a baby bird tossing seeds in the air and catching them in his mouth instead of just eating them. There also is a nice creepy overtone to the game. This is a HOPA, and there aren't too many HOS. The minigames are really creative, but not too challenging, even on hardcore mode. In fact, there isn't much challenge, due to the leading black box comments and several unneeded hints like drawings near the object that tell you exactly what to do. Maybe that's okay on easy mode, but on hardcore? The collectibles are obvious, and for every 3-4 you find you get to watch a "cinema" that is supposed to help explain the background and story. These little cutscenes are really disjointed though, like there are some scenes missing. The usual three levels of play, all sounds(music, voice, environment, effects) can be off or on as you want. As I always turn off voices and music, can't comment on those. The game is a good length as is the bonus game. There is also this "Hall of Memories" additional gameplay, but it consists mostly of repeating HOS and minigames from the regular game. Hope this developer puts out more creative games like this, only with more challenge! October 14, 2013
Did the Trial, I'm Hooked! This game has a very intriguing story line. I just did the free trial of the SE, and it promptly made the top of my "buy" list. It's an Elephant Game so you know the graphics and sound quality are excellent but, as always, it's the story hooked this "fishie"! Can't wait to go finish it... October 11, 2013
Puts the "grim" back in Grim Tales I liked The Stone Queen but I didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the series. Bloody Mary brings back the dark, surreal tone of the previous games (maybe even then some!) The CE is packed with extras, and the bonus chapter really adds dimension to the overall story. The puzzles are probably too easy for more advanced players, but if you are a fan of the series I think you will really like this installment. October 7, 2013
One of the very best A lovely mixture of puzzles and hidden object games. Not the same old stuff. The bonus chapter is well worth the CE edition. September 29, 2013
Perfect Game For me, this game has it all: Superb graphics, fitting music, just enough HO scenes, engaging puzzles, an awesome map, and an entertaining story. I do agree with other reviewers who wrote that some of the gameplay was easy; I found this to be the case about a quarter of the way in and simply increased the difficulty level. There is much to do in this game but I never once felt overwhelmed or bored, and found myself eager to go back and forth. The bonus content offered is pretty generous in my opinion. I've seen some CEs that only give a few wallpapers and bonus chapters that last ten minutes. With Bloody Mary we get plenty of music, wallpapers, concept art, achievements, collectibles (that have a nice little touch because they are intertwined into the story) and a lengthy bonus chapter. By far this is my new favorite from Elephant. This game is well worth the money; even though I bought it during a sale, I still would not have complained had I paid the full price. Perfect way to spend my Friday the thirteenth. September 13, 2013
