Ashley Clark: Secret of the Ruby
THEY SHOULDN'T BE CHARGING MONEY FOR THIS GAME
My first disappointment with this game was when the screen froze after I put in my name. I had to restart my computer before anything would move. Then I began to play on hard mode and noticed a lot of sentencing errors such as words stuck together without spaces between them, characters saying things that weren't in the dialogue box or not saying what was in the dialogue box. Many times I would try to apply an item to an object to have it rejected when I knew it was the correct item. I would often have to try over and over to get the game to respond. Then I found the woman in the garden, the main character, and in the middle of her voice over HER VOICE OVER DISAPPEARED. I tapped my headphones but no...it wasn't them because I could still hear the music playing. Her voice just vaporized but her character's lips kept moving (good for a giggle.) That's when I quit the game. I've beta tested many games over the years and none were this bad. This game needed to be tweaked before being released imo. It's a shame because the graphics, music and games are pretty decent, but for me, the glaring lack of professionalism in the play of this game ruined it. I'm just glad I didn't buy it at full price or I would be fuming about it.
Bottom line: save your money, this has too many glitches and errors.

I found some of the hidden object scenes dark and the items were hard to see. It was difficult to determine where to go next. Some items did not appear as something to pick up on the first/second try. I'm not against the older style games (I own quite a few), but I'd like them to work properly and I do like to be able to see the items I need.

I will pass on this one
Based on 24 minutes of trial.
Story begins with you as a detective investigating a missing person report. The only thing left is a stone hand sticking out of the ground holding a ruby pendant. You use gloves to pick it up.
Later when it starts to glow, you pick it up with your bare hand - dumb move!! You wake up in a dungeon, hardly a surprise.
Typical junk pile HOS - you revisit some of the HOS. Items found are used within a room or two.
Characters you meet are very talkative. You have to get something for the character to get something from them - then they disappear.
Mini-games are average - nothing special. I skipped to save time while playing the demo.
I just could not really care whether the detective ever gets back to reality.

Could have been an ok game
I gave this 2 stars because there was no way to finish this game. I got to the part where the gardner wants to ask a question but he never does; one cannot go on until this requirement is fulfilled. Awful! What a waste of money.

There's a bad smell emanating from my computer...oh, yeah...it's this game! What a stinker!! The story is completely stupid and the gameplay is extremely annoying. The VOs are strange...the prison guard sounds like a teenager from a Disney cartoon, the guy in the bar just keeps yelling for more wine and the gardener tells you he wants to ask you one more question but he never does... (possibly a glitch). The hints are numbered and you have to collect jewels to get more, but there are not very many available, and I used the hint button a lot because it was unclear what needed to be done. The HOs were straightforward with only slight interaction, and the shadow HOs were quite frustrating because you can't tell what some of the amorphous blobs are supposed to be. There is a transporting map, but it is in the journal and you have to open the journal then open the map each time you want to look at it. It doesn't offer any indication of where things might need doing. Some scenes you need to exit then return to after you have attained an item, for no apparent reason. The mini games seemed like they would be challenging, but a couple if moves solved them...maybe they will improve as I only played the demo, but I certainly will not be the one to find out, as there is no way I would pay for this game. The only redeeming aspect is the graphic art, which is nice but not enough to keep me playing. Sorry for the bad review, but ...uurgh!
