What's Not to Like? What a cute game! I didn't get bored at all. The mini-games were just right, not too difficult nor too easy. HOGs were doable and there were three different types. I wish other developers would do that instead of presenting the typical junk pile every time. The hint system worked very well. It was almost like having a guide. It told you where to go and even spelled it out if you still didn't get it. The notes helped too. The music went well with the time period and was very pretty. Those green eyes, though, on the man - not something you'd see in nature and a bit startling but he got the girl by the end of the game. Nice and low key. I recommend this game! September 11, 2013
Pray, do not scoff at this one! This is a lovely game to get lost in. Pros: - Beautiful scenery. - Appropriate music and characters. - Interesting adventures and little challenges. - Engaging for those who love this period. - No evil, scary, or wicked storylines. - I love any historical game, especially one involving an old mansion or garden. - BBC involvement. Cons: - For me, installation was a major issue until I figured it out on the third attempt (I hadn't downloaded the game installer/manager files properly). - Some scenes are a little too dark to see the hidden objects. - Too short. - The game is mostly quite easy. There are some challenging moments, but on the whole, it is relaxing and not demanding. - For me, at times the English accents sounded more like Americans trying to sound English. I would heartily recommend it! September 17, 2013
Great Game for Jane Austen Fans I love Jane Austen and tend to buy any game related to her books. I especially enjoyed the storyline to this game. I thought the game was pretty easy to follow. I could usually figure out where to go. But if I had a problem the hints worked well. There are several types of hidden objects scenes, There is the standard finding objects based on name; then finding the matching shape for an object; and lastly finding random shapes. The mini games included some that I had not played before, which is always a plus. There were a nice variety of these games. Most were not too difficult although I think I ended up skipping one. I also liked being able to find 5 of Jane Austen's novels as I was playing the game and enjoyed the mini game that matched the various novels with a character name and picture. The cut scenes definitely help tell the story. Since I often play games while my husband is sleeping, I play without the sound and just read what is happening as opposed to listening to it. I appreciate having that option. I completed the game in about 2.5 hours, which means it's a fairly short game. I look forward to playing it again soon. December 27, 2013
Lovely little game This game took me two nights to complete, short but i really enjoyed it. The artwork and graphics were gorgeous as they didn't try to modernize the look or feel so all together this game held an old feel of mystery. Puzzles were simple, nothing challenging here. Music was beautiful. More a game to play while relaxing quietly on a rainy weekend. I loved it, hope to find another similar. September 15, 2013
GRAB A CUP OF EARL GREY FOR THIS GAME! I loved this Jane Austen's story the graphics and sound are great! The owls sounds like they are outside my window! Sad they won't let her in to investigate her aunt, but the wooded areas or grounds are so beautiful! I want to put on a sweater (it's cool I bet) to help her find out what happened! I got to get back, played for ten minutes and had to write review. I will buy this game and while playing drink some Earl Grey! Enjoy, you will have fun. Going back to the days Old England! CHEERIO! SUPERB AND ELEGANT, JANE HERSELF WOULD BE PROUD!!! This is definitely one to play.. Loved the mix-up of the different hidden object scenes. The music was lovely and very fitting to the era. Very enjoyable. Loved the skill required for the mini-games or puzzles. All around a 10 in my book:))) September 10, 2013
UNEXPECTED ENJOYMENT As a hidden object/adventure game lover I formed an opinion before even playing this game because as each game gets better and better my expectations get higher and higher. This game does indeed have poor graphics but the story is good and I was genuinely entertained. The poor graphics actually worked to an advantage because some items could be well hidden. The HOS are only slightly interactive where you click on a purse for example to open it, there are list finds and fragmented item finds where you find several pieces of one item, and silhouetted finds where you have to match the items to the shadowed item. Puzzles were good, most requiring you to figure out a riddle for instructions or search for clues or patterns. I personally became irritated with the music especially during HOS because it seemed to get louder and the tone changed to a squeaky out of tune mess. I really hope you will give this game a chance before forming an opinion, you might like it, enjoy! September 10, 2013
Charming The older look of the game didn't bother me, it seems to fit with the time period. After full demo, I'm finding it kind of charming. BBC seems to be using some of their better actors for the voices. I like the variety of HOs and didn't even mind the FROGs, which are not my cup of tea. Uncle Frank's rhyming clues are a nice change of pace, and having a keybox you have to return to is also something I haven't seen before. No walkthrough is always scary for me, but I'm going to risk it. When I'm surprised at the demo's end, that usually means I'm lost in the game, so yeah this will be a PCC purchase for me. Lovely but Lacking It's such a relief to see an HO game that isn't about witches, corpses and everything ugly. This is a very pretty game visually and a great idea to bring us a story involving a literary mystery. I wish the developers would take the hint and create more games of this type with better story and character development. Other recent games have been boring - no more dripping skeletons and back and forth adventures please ! September 11, 2013
Love Jane Austen I was pleasantly surprised at this game. I only tried it because I am a huge Jane Austen fan, but I ended up liking it very much and will buy it. I loved the beautiful house to explore and the artwork. The music was lovely and relaxing without putting me to sleep. I would like to see more games based on great works of literature.
