The worst ND I've played Ive been playing all the ND games in order, and this one is the worst. I've come to expect the constant horrible navigation that plagues nearly every single ND game, but this one really took it to the limits of my patience. Just moving around the house was bad enough, but driving the car and finding your way around the roads was just awful. The roads were deliberately set up to be maze-like for no other reason than to be a time sink and ..to be irritating! Fun Factor : The only part I considered fun was playing the Land Rush game.. until I realized I would have to play it until I had 9999 Pa Pennies just to purchase the mystery box. OMG.. Just ridiculous! The game overflowed with constant annoyances. I didn't like any of the character personalities, and worse, the person who was made into the villain.. wasn't really a villain. It was someone who got shafted from start to finish, stabbed in the back, betrayed, and then intentionally pushed to the limit..then.. framed as the "bad person". The other characters where far more underhanded and villainous. To be frank, the ending was just all wrong and left me somewhat angry. You do not end this game with a satisfied feeling at all! Visual/Sound : Visuals were.. ok.. animations were moderate quality, but the NPCs had a delayed response in nearly every conversation. The music was pretty much the same as from Shadow Ranch which wasn't bad, but something a bit more suspenseful would have been better for setting the mood. Level of Challenge : *sigh* While the Land Rush game was fun, overkill ruined it. The puzzles were pretty easy - beginner level, and there was really only one challenge which was over-the-top stupid and hard (and apparently other reviewers felt the same as I did about that chart challenge) Storyline : It was fun to speak to Krolmiester, but most of the dialog added nothing to the story. While the story was full of great tidbits of information on Tornadoes, the story itself was weak. There was also no explanation for all the mice and there were hotspots in the game that were never used. Most of the story flowed fairly well, but there was a major break / hole right after you fix the phone jack. Aside from that, it wasn't difficult to figure out what to do. I do NOT recommend this game. Only if you are a die-hard ND game fan and have the patience of a saint would I ever say yeah - go ahead and waste your time. This is definitely a game you can skip. for me, this was awful I really REALLY wish that I could have tried it out first. If I could have done so, I would have know that this is not for me. I am a senior and this game is way too hard for me. I was intrigued because as a kid, I read every single Nancy Drew book when it came out. Sorry BFG, this game was not for me at all. You really should allow people to try it first. But...... lesson learned. October 9, 2013
Don't buy this as your first Nancy Drew!!! I have played many Nancy Drew games and enjoyed all of them, but The Trail of the Twister was a huge let-down for me. It didn't even feel like a game but like a job and a job of the worst kind. It's part of most ND games having to do chores, but in this one here it's taking the biscuit! Not only are the characters overly stroppy, but some of the chores made want to wretch. I had to catch colonies of mice...ALIVE :-S. So if you have a fear of rodents, then don't go for this game, because they look like rats disguised as mice *yuk :-(. Most instructions by these high flying storm chasers are in their own jargon and if you don't write them down (I played senior mode, so no task list) then be prepared for endless 'No, I can't to sleep yet, I still have things to do' or Debbie (your kind of line manager) reminding you that you still have things to do and either have to figure it out for yourself or consult a walkthrough to find out what you could have missed. To top it, once Nancy caught the culprit he knocked her unconscious, at which point I was asking myself why male violence against women has to be part of any game. I'm sorry, but I really did not enjoy The Trail of the Twister one little bit and I can't recommend it. So I repeat: If you never played a Nancy Drew game before, then don't start with this one, as it might put you off ND games for life and you may miss out on the great majority of them. Waste of Money Now I know why there is not a free preview version...if there was no one would purchase this game. Very annoying in that you can't skip over dialogues. How you move around the game is also annoying. There is always a magnifying glass, but it only flashes red when you can zoom in on something. September 25, 2013
