Haunted Hotel: Eclipse 4.2 5 25 25
ANIMATION STUPENDOUS Spooky through and through. Investigate monsters (ex: werewolf, vampires and all those lovely creatures we used to be afraid were under our beds or behind the sofa when children) at a hotel. And the monsters are at war with each other. Plus you have a male partner (who likes to give orders, so he must be the boss). Doesn't get better than this! The animation and special effects for the creatures and their war capades is superb. Scenery is pleasant to look at and, once inside the hotel, the color palette for the atmosphere is perfect. Artistry is gorgeously done. The monsters are given a slightly puppetry look. Lots and lots to do. Puzzles are tied into the scene and missing pieces are readily assessible within a short walk. It's fun to find the solution. HOS are list-based and, although the objects are very well detailed, are very busy. Still, there was no difficulty in finding objects. Narrator and voices were professional and you could interact directly with characters (including your partner). You get: 4 volume and a gamma control, automatic widescreen, 3 modes of difficulty and a map showing where current tasks are. The hint system is extremely helpful - it tells you what to use and where. Recharge is fairly fast in casual mode. A really great Elephant game (as usual). November 8, 2013
Reservations For A Haunting! Everybody's dying to get a room in the Haunted Hotel. This is where the Journey ends for two sworn enemies who once were best friends! As you help your good friend James investigate the Haunted Hotel you uncover secret passages, hidden doors and monsters! Death is everywhere, vampires have been staked and magicians have met a similar fate, what is going on with this epic battle of the supernatural? The Elephant has given us another superior game with super sharp graphics and and a very intriguing story. Although the CE has morphs and monsters to collect this is still a superior SE with plenty of activities to hold your interest. You won't find a bunch of hidden object scenes but they are interactive and very well done. Most of the mini games are doable without even reading the instructions such as choosing which item is correct for clearing a path such as a bucket of water to put out a fire. Some of the games are new like answering questions given by a crystal ball and choosing the correct magic card for the answer. There is a very good interactive map that can be used to jump to different locations quickly which comes in handy due to the fact that there are a lot of back and forth activities and several rooms in the Haunted Hotel. I really would be hard pressed to find anything negative to say about this game. It is a very professional well produced game, enjoy! November 8, 2013
CE Or SE? (Bonus Content Review) BASED ON COMPLETED GAME Many great reviews can be read in the CE thread, so I?ll concentrate here on the Bonus Content. Briefly, this game is just about everything I could ask for. Amazing intro, beautiful graphics, classic story, great soundtrack and of course excellent gameplay with a balance of HOPs, puzzles, mini-games, and adventure. And I am glad to see a human partner, a la M. Dupin from the Dark Tales series, who might be described as cute (*cheeky grin*), but definitely not saccharine. As you?d expect from Elephant, the game is put together very professionally. So you can anticipate a great game in either the Collector?s or Standard Editions. *****Bonus Content Review ***** Bonus Chapter: While the main game ends abruptly, it also ends with finality. The extra chapter is a story that *could* follow from it, but certainly didn?t have to. The game took me a little over an hour to complete, but I was tired and skipped quite a few mini-games. The locations are half made up by revamped old locations, and 100% new ones. All the puzzles and HOPs are new. Although the story was interesting and fun, I still got the feeling of it having been ?tacked on?. There were errors in spelling etc. which you rarely see in Elephant games. And sometimes there wasn?t much justification for the actions the characters made. But enjoyable enough. Gallery: Wallpapers, concept art, music. Strategy Guide: Clear and well done without being exceptional. I would have preferred more screenshots with better detail. Collectibles: These are morphing paintings and seriously cool. Not too hard to find, but I still managed to miss one. Achievements: Standing on the mantel of a comfortable fireplace. The expected achievements and couple of odd ones. Secret Room*: Without doubt the most appealing feature to come as a result of us crying, ?different, give me different? in the forums. POSSIBLE SPOILER *This is where you find the replayable puzzles and HOPs. But there is a story to follow, and you must solve some puzzles in order to activate others. It?s like a real game in simpler form* For my money, the CE extras are very much worth the extra money, but you still won?t be disappointed with the SE if you?re on a budget. November 9, 2013
Enchanting! Played this game straight through to the end and then played the bonus game. The map was useful and saved me using hints. I liked everything about it, music, narrative, graphics, HOPs and mini-games. Satisfying conclusion to the story. November 9, 2013
What a surprise! This is the best Haunted Hotel game yet! Everything about it was outstandingly refreshing. What a great game! What a good story! It's the best game I've played in quite a while. November 10, 2013
another great haunted hotel game i enjoyed this one as much as the other ones. played in casual, low sound. hints/skips charge quickly. it has a diary and an interactive map. the map shows where you are and the places that you need to be for your next task. sometimes you need to check for the arrows on the map. i missed a few and then realized that i just needed to follow them. the map is needed because of a lot of back and forth. i had to cheat a few times and go to the walkthrough. i couldn't figure out where to go even though the hint told me. great hint system. sequel....probably.
