REALLY ENJOYED THIS ONE! i liked a LOT about this game ... full of adventure ... the artwork is BEAUTIFUL ... i especially enjoyed the variety of music ... the HOs where you find shapes rather than just things ... much less like work and more fun ... could've been a few more mini puzzles ... and i am ESPECIALLY grateful that EIPIX created a game that didn't CRASH ... this was worth the price for me !!!! Find Jonathan and stop the king Nice game. Logical and moves along. Story is interesting and game play is easy to follow. Puzzles are fun. January 16, 2014
4 stars...beautifully immersive & imaginative Amaranthine Voyage: The Living Mountain Developed by Eipix Collector's Edition Review based on demo IN THE BEGINNING... Having been to the Tree of Live, you are now faced with the intolerable situation of having no one believe you. Your colleagues scoff at you and your students make fun of you. Then the father of a former student visits you, and you have the chance to redeem your reputation. It seems his son Jonathan has discovered a portal and gone through it. He asks you to travel to the small town of Three Stones and follow Jonathan through the portal. When you do, you discover a world of unparalleled beauty?hiding intrigue of unparalleled evil. You'll need all your intelligence and resourcefulness to save both this world and yours. PLAY THE GAME... Two types of HO scenes are offered: interactive list and silhouette. In both types, the item you eventually acquire is found at the end, by you solving a verbal riddle. The interactions range from simply moving something aside to actually assembling the item in question. The silhouette HOs break the mold by panning across to new areas every few items. Of course, there's lots to find and use in adventure mode, and there are puzzles and mini-games. Of the latter, the ones I encountered during the demo were original. SIGHTSEEING? Eipix has outdone itself with imaginative backgrounds that are pure eye candy. This is the first time I've actually been interested in a game's concept art. The design, colors, textures, perspectives, dimension, and use of light and shadow are all spectacular. Character animation is extremely well done, including the lip synching. I did find the cutscenes to be somewhat pixellated, both in regular and high def modes, but I'm unsure whether to attribute this to the game or to my graphics card, so you'll have to judge this for yourself based on your own computer. SOUND WAVES? The music?being a musician, I'm extremely choosy about game music. This game offers some of the best game music I've heard in a long time. It's richly layered, ambient, and varied?never monotonous or repetitive. Game and environmental sounds are appropriate, and voiceovers are totally professional. TOOLBOX? Each time you travel to a new area, you acquire a new map. The areas in the demo were self-contained, and you didn't move on until you were finished, so I assume we won't be wearing out the soles of our shoes. There is a journal as well. Inventory is lockable. You have your trusty bow and arrow for faraway things, and an adorable pup for tight spaces. EXTRA, EXTRA? Extras include a bonus adventure, achievements, collectibles (dog treats and fairies), the SG, and the usual "by-products of game development" portfolio. THE LAST WORD? I'm in love with this game because of the overall immersive experience. Everything comes together beautifully: storyline, graphics, music, and gameplay. Strange, because I recall not liking the first game in this series. Perhaps I'll revisit it, because I most certainly recommend this installment. Bravo, Eipix! And thank you, BFG! More like this one, please! January 26, 2014
Great game from Eipix. Although, would have preferred less violence. Play time ~ 8 hours (Collector's Edition) This is a very good game. It balances the quantity of hidden objects and adventure/puzzle very effectively, likely pleasing both crowds. I believe especially there are more puzzles in this than some of Eipix's other games (i.e. Myths of the World: Stolen Spring). I enjoyed that aspect very much; in fact there were some very ingenious puzzle designs in this game (note that the ingenuity is with the puzzles, not the HOS, which were pretty regular). Also note that the level of interaction with objects in the game was pretty high, which I liked. As with other Eipix games, the quality of the graphics and sound were very good, with very well done voice acting. The storyline was pretty interesting also. I deducted some marks because there is a bit of violence in this game and a sense of military / political strife that I would have preferred were not in the game. March 25, 2014
double-crossed! The story was good. the graphics great. I love those type of ho scenes and the mini games were challenging but not impossible. I will admit, I would like to know what happens next. ! that is usually how you know the story is good. June 23, 2014
An Improvement This review is based off of the CE. I read a few reviews before I purchased the game. Overall the game was good, but I got bored in the middle and found myself just wanting to finish it towards the end. The story line is good and entertaining with twists and turns. Visual quality was nice. There are secret objects to find through out the game. The HO scenes were enjoyable because they varied in different type. The puzzles were a mix of easy and hard. I didn't not like the inconsistency of the challenge of the puzzles. February 1, 2014
One of the better games of 2014 This is one of the better games for this year. I usually don't pay any attention to the storyline, so that isn't a factor, but I loved the clever way they incorporated different types of HO games (moving you around a cabinet, etc.). The dog biscuits got to be a little annoying and the games were easy, but it 'moved' easily and I really enjoyed it. One game I think you can't go wrong with, and truly a CE. January 24, 2014
So beautiful - I wanted to really love it... The artwork for this game is outstanding, every scene is beautifully done. I wanted to love the game but the actual game play left me kind of bored. There were too many illogical tasks and the flow of the game felt disjointed. Odd things you needed to do, unexplained objects for strange combinations. As it stands, I've been working my way slowly through the bonus chapter for over 3 days...just don't have the interest to go back and finish it. I don't recall feeling this way during the trial...did it fall off the rails? February 6, 2014
Never Laugh at your Professor :) This is a great release from Eipix. I absolutely love most of their games, although I did not care for the first installment of this game (The Tree of Life). In this one, you need to find your student who has gone through a portal to a different world. The music, graphics, color, etc., are excellent. The HOS are varied and fun. The puzzles ranged from easy to hard (I'm not the best at puzzles). You do get a helper, Bonnie the dog, who helps sometimes and is not intrusive. There are many extras in this CE. Hidden bones, hidden fairies, a long bonus chapter, replayable games and HOS. All in all a very nicely done game. For me, I wasn't very interested in the story. One of those games that just couldn't keep my attention. It seemed to drag on and on. I may retry the SE and see if I feel differently then. January 17, 2014
Above average but.... I just completed the entire game and while it was enjoyable, I think I can recommend that the CE is probably not worth it. I would wait for the standard version and buy that one instead. January 19, 2014
