A Ghostly Tale I'm not really sure how to critique this game. Some parts I liked, some parts I didn't. There was a story ( a detective arriving at an empty mansion to investigate the possibility that the owner was still there) or so it seemed in the beginning, but once things got going it just went from scene to scene, room to room, HOS to HOS. While I enjoy HOS this was a bit much especially when the storyline kinda drifted off. Graphics were crisp & clear, music very eerie and loud which added to the ghostly effect, I just wish there had been more excitement. The only thing that added a touch of suspense was the young child who kept popping in and out. I kept hoping something more would develop with that. Too bad. The map & footstep thing was annoying, and there were no hints as to what was expected, a lot of the time you fuddled along wondering what to do next. All this being said there was something that drew me in and I'll be darned if I can explain it!! I wanted to keep going just to see what other things might or might not occur and how a game such as this would end! Very different style but I believe it had some merit although it could have been presented differently. The potential for a great game is there but technique and execution fell rather short of the mark. It may be a buy for me but again I'm not sure. Try it for yourself, it is at least worth a peek! GOOD BUT LACKS THE PURCHASE PIZAZZ The 100 people who reviewed before me have gone into the details of the gameplay, so I won't regurgitate. I always like the maps which show where actions are ready to be performed and the task list. I disagree slightly that there is no adventure because it's a more or less pure HOS. You do have to solve puzzles to move forward in addition to completing the various types of HOS (like the sketch searches). Items were easy to find and, although not bright, the HOS were not too dark. The story was good, but for some reason, there was a lack of the compelling pizazz that makes me want to buy. Playing in Shadows This was one of the hardest games I have played in that there were no instructions on what to do or how to accomplish the task. I had to figure it out and there were times I was at a loss but I kept on trucking along and eventually finished the game. There are numerous hidden object scenes. The biggest complaint is the map popping up to load a new location it got at times quite irritating. This is a game that does not provide any hand holding yes there are sparkles but that is about it. The complaints of some were the areas in which you had to kill so called animals, well those animals were already stuffed and mounted and just so happened to be possessed by demons you do not actually kill anything. This is not a game for kids for sure. It is also not for beginners. If I can finish it anyone can. There were times I wanted to give up but just would not let it beat me. Some may like this game others will hate it. I am in the middle. If you are offended by demons and such do not play this game, if you are one that needs a lot of hand holding and addtional help this is not for you, but if you want a challenge and want to really use your brain give it a try you may like it. The atmosphere is dark and some scenes are difficult when searching for objects. With better mechanics this would be a great game as it stands I would grade it a C January 26, 2014
I so wanted to like this game but... NevoSoft was the first developer to catch my attention way, way back when. "Mushroom Age" was so ridiculously quirky, over the top and inventive (In story, art *and* gameplay) that I fell for the devs and bought all of their games. But 2008 was a long time ago in the game world. The wit and imagination is still there but the technology has moved on without them. At it's barest bones, this game has some unique concepts. I love the idea of a creepy mansion with puzzle doors. The hand-drawn HO list is new and charming. Inventory items are challenging. But... Actually this whole game is a "That's cool, but..." But there is too big a lag between scenes. But there are too many H0's. The live-action actors are well incorporated but amateur. It's good to have a jump map but it's hard to make out which room is which and, combined with the lag, makes inventory items more frustrating than fun. It would be wonderful if Nevosoft could bring their art, weirdness and delightfully peculiar vision up to current tech standards but...until they do, I'll have to pass. January 21, 2014
Tina I am not very far through the game. Just started on the second floor. I like the game overall but I hate the long loading times from room to room. It is driving me insane! Had I known this fact, I may not have purchased the game. I don't recommend this for people who don't want to wait for what seems like an eternity for the rooms to load. If you have the patience (and endless time) then yes, it is worth buying. August 27, 2014
Shadow Shelter I believe this could be a good game, but I have attempted it twice and have experienced frustration at the amount of time it takes to load between scenes. This is frustrating enough for me to have given it up for the second time. Disappointing, I think it is potentially an enjoyable game. May 20, 2014
HATE THE FOOTSTEPS!! I really enjoyed playing this one - some scenes made me work to find items which I like. I dislike games that are overly easy....BUT as much as i wanted to continue and consider buying, I could not at all get past having to go through those stupid footsteps moving across a floorplan scene every time you changed rooms. I downgraded my rating as it made me leave the game. I like a game that flows smoothly - have to be honest as my thoughts were -- if you cannot figure out how to get from one room to another without having to load with footsteps on the screen - perhaps you need help in figuring out how to do it. IF the creator thinks it adds to the game...count me out. Would buy this game IF I could get rid of that feature February 9, 2014
Really wanted to like this game I found the loading every time you want to changes rooms really annoyed me and I thought it was unnecessary to the game. It made me not want to continue. The game overall doesn't seem to difficult and the HO scenes are interesting. Other than that it's not a bad game and the graphics are nice. The interactive map is very basic also. January 31, 2014
irritating I like the HOS but every other time I changed rooms, the map came up with the steps. I spent more time watching the feet walk over the map than I spent on the game. Very irritating. Also, when I tried to change the difficulty mode, the hints stopped working. Even when I tried to change it back so I would have hints, it did not work again. Not for me. January 22, 2014
Cheap looking game This game has some glitches in it that make it frustrating for the most part. The hint stops working and the player has to exit the game and return to reboot it. The game also takes its time getting from room to room as it is constantly loading the rather sub standard rooms. The game is more HOG than anything and seems like it was made four years ago. Basically, a child is possessed by a demon and it is up to the player to save him. I got this game as a freebie but I wouldn't recommend paying for it. January 27, 2014
