House of 1000 Doors: Family Secrets Collector's Edition
A very good game
OK so most of the other reviews have said a lot of the same thing, but let me add my bit.
The House of 1000 Doors has good game play and an intriguing storyline, which has you wondering what's going on to begin with. I am not sure about the the seance bit at the start as much of the plot seems to involve magic, and I don't care for seances anyway. However, apart from that, it's a great idea to have a house which appears in different locations for different times and has doors leading to different places. I say no more to spoil it for those who haven't yet played it.
I played this game in the advanced mode. You do get a map which shows you where you are and allows you to jump to places (saves all that backward clicking), but this also gives you a clue where you can do things, which I feel it shouldn't in the advanced mode. Still, I found that quite useful!
The minigames aren't difficult and many of the puzzles depend on you finding pieces and putting them in the right place. There were some good touches with this. Solutions were interesting: I particularly liked the bit with the toy train. I also liked the fact that there were things you spot at the start which weren't picked up again until the end. Often in games you progress and never go back to the initial scenes once you've done, but this was different.
A few slightly negative things:
1. the diary sometimes gave me information I hadn't actually already seen. For instance I went into one room and out again, then happened to check the diary and it was showing me something which I hadn't actually clicked on to see. I had to go back and find where that was.
2. The first two parts to solve I knew what I needed to do, but in the third (trying not to make this a spoiler) it wasn't obviously how it was going to work out. I think there should have been some comment about the way this was going to work beforehand.
HO scenes: combining and finding objects well done. My only niggle here was that when you came back to many of them you'd often find the thing I knew I'd just taken and used had been put back. But I like HO scenes where you have to do a bit of extra interaction, which this had. I also thought the scenes which showed you using some of the objects (peeling an apple, cutting grass with a scythe) were well done.
Highly recommended and I think will be good in the CE version too as the ending is very satisfactory without the bonus chapter.

house of 1000 doors:family secrets collector edition
I really enjoyed playing this game. I loved everything about it.It wasn't too dark so you can't see items in the hidden object puzzles.

I enjoyed the game immensely. A good relaxing, do not have to think to hard game. It is not to hard and not to easy. Plus I always like bonus games after the main game. It is a pretty good story, although the story is not as important to me as the mini-games. A decent amount of mini-games-not to difficult. I would recommend this game. ENJOY!!!

Collector's version well worth it.
I haven't purchased a collector's game in quite awhile. I was wondering if the game play would be worth it and I was pleasantly surprised. It has great graphics and was pretty extensive. I don't usually spend this amount of time on a game but the makers put a lot of time and effort into this! If you play a lot of strategy/adventure games then you will find the little puzzles pretty simple at times, however the game itself was worth it the collector's price because it was about the length of two games and very well done.

Great hidden object game
I'm used to Mystery Case Files, this was not Mystery Case Files, but over all...it was a very fun game. The puzzles in this game weren't that hard, but still required a good skill level. I really enjoy this game and didn't have to ponder over the puzzles for hours. They were able to be figured out at a medium level, Also, the in game strategy guide was very helpful on the few (ok i'm lying) occasions that I needed it. The hidden puzzles didn't take hours to figure out either. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the game. I really loved the story line... a house that could appear and disappear at will. The audio as well as the visual were up to par and really made the game enjoyable. I also like the fact that during the hidden puzzle you had to use object a and b in order to get the clue. Meaning if you need a to find a red swan, you needed to click the red paint and then on to the swan to make it red. The applaud the designers and creator of this game. This game all-in-all had a great feel, great story line, great characters and excellent game play. I recommend this game to everyone. It deserves it's number one stop on the top ten, Great game!

no standard version?
I really like this one. Cool story, great visuals, intriguing atmosphere. The puzzles were challenging and fit the story and weren't impossible to complete. It seemed to be interesting and time consuming, but I tried the trial on this one and when it was up I would've purchased it, but all I could find is the "collectors edition"... The CE's offer nothing for me to justify paying twice as much. Good game though.

Good Intermediate Game
Graphics were great, sound was good. The mini games were simple, but the game itself was a lot of fun.
