Definitely not CE worthy! Hi all. Well, guess I'm going to be the minority on this one today. I will say that the graphics weren't too bad, but a little fuzzy. Nice colors. Game play was good. Voice overs were good, but not that many. I much prefer animation to "real" people in these games, as real people just never line up with the background and it looks too fake. Music was very monotonous. Very little in the way of sound FX, and this game definitely needed them. It is suppose to be "scary," but there was nothing to bring you to the edge of your seat. I'm a huge fan of Poe stories, Vincent Price movies and the like, so I was excited to see this one come out. However, I was very disappointed. This house was suppose to have appeared 3 months ago, but Sam said he and his wife looked at it years ago and got stuck in it. Hmmm, story doesn't jibe. HOPs are very simple, clear and easy to find items. Puzzles are quite simple as well. Hint system is helpful, so the lack of an SG is no big deal, but still very odd. There is a click penalty as well...haven't seen that in quite some time either. Makes me think this is an older game. There is constant back tracking. I felt dizzy after a while. Didn't even need to look at the map, so not sure what it does. The only collectibles I found were the heart shaped lockets. They are quite large and easy to spot. The opening scene was the only exciting part of this game for me. It started out good, but died very quickly after that. The only scary thing about it was the title and that is very misleading. I did not find this game challenging or fun and certainly not CE worthy. It is very seldom that I do not even recommend a game for beginners, but I don't think a beginner would find this one challenging either. Definite no buy for me today. As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for. Thanks for the reviews. May 17, 2014
Tales of Terror House on HILL I again was looking for the "wow factor" In this CE game! I am not sure the reasons for the 5 stars? The main game and bonus games were short! Not sure this game was up to the challenge/expectations of the $20.42 price! )o: May 29, 2014
Fogettable I had problems with the annoying sound effects not shutting off after leaving the scene that produced them. Not sure if anyone else experienced that issue....Other than that, I felt the game was short, not challenging (except for some of the puzzles which I had to skip (mostly because they were puzzles solved by chance, not by skill), and very disjointed. HOS scenes were prolific in the bonus chapter which I finished in half an hour. I have always felt that these scenes are thrown into games to artificially prolong game time. They certainly don't add to the ambience or the attempt to immerse oneself in the gameplay. Sometimes I get downright frustrated running into another HO scene when there are too many because the adventure is put on hold until it's over. (Especially if they are junk pile lists and no attempt is made to make them interesting.) Would definitely not buy the CE. Very disappointed. May 27, 2014
Old game made new? I rarely buy a game and stop playing it. But this one just got the better of me.I usually trust one of the top reviewer's feedback but this time i don't understand what is worth five stars? I spent about 30min. playing and hoping it to catch my interest, but felt like just going back and forth to get the objects and I have to say that the map and the hint button were pretty useless to me. None of them really help. The story is so obvious that one just has to follow the clues to add one and one. One of the major problems is that FX sounds are loud and recurrent; they don't turn off when you leave the scene, which can quickly become pretty irritating, so much so that I had to cut off the fx sound in order to keep on playing without blowing a fuse. It feels to me that the game is an old one reshaped with a very few poor gimmicks. The only objects you are supposed to collect throughout the game are hearts. None of my beloved morphs, which are always fun to search. Not to mention that the HOS are just common. It's a pity to issue something like that when so many fun and attractive features are available today! Music is poor and repetitive. I liked the real characters. Voice overs are nicely made. I also liked the idea of the plot. The house growing on by feeding on the people trapped in is original but is weakly brought to profit. At no time I got the feeling that I was "in" the adventure, enough to get lost in time. Graphics are ok. Despite the title, the game isn't scary at all. I just was bored and disappointed. This review is based on approx. 45min. playing time. Definitely not worth the CE version. Good for beginners who haven't experienced some of the best BF games available these days... June 8, 2014
No Terror This game was pretty easy and I am not a pro. The story line was okay. The music was repetitive and the graphics were okay. The map was interactive and there was a strategy guide. There were 46 hearts to collect and achievements also. One of the HUGE things for me is the live actors. Or better yet the DEVS who THINK they are actors. All but one of the names of the listed actors are the names of the DEVS. You cannot act! Stick to what you do best and stop putting yourselves into your production. Animation against animation works best and looks best....not real people stuck into animation. I think a lot of you who are far better than me are going to be bored with this one. May 18, 2014
I thought it was me This game is so boring. I can't remember why I bought it. I really wanted to like it but I agree there is nothing CE about it not even collecting those little hearts. The graphics are not great either, very old school and not in a good way. It's also quite dark until you get to the random tropical scene. I doubt I'm going to finish this one. House of 1000 Doors is much better. July 3, 2014
Very Cheaply Done I have to admit, after purchasing hundreds of games, this has to be one of my worst. I can't even remember, after 8 yrs as a member, if I ever wrote a bad review. Well, here it is. Very poor acting, cheap looking, and horribly over-dramatic. Even the music I didn't like. Sorry to offend all who enjoyed this game, but I just couldn't get into it. When faced with so many good programmers out there and their technical expertise, this one was very lacking. Better luck next game, Maybe?? June 29, 2014
Really? How can this have four stars? Stupid and silly story line. There are so many good games out there, don't waste your money. June 6, 2014
I don't like live action. I started playing this game, but when I saw that it included live action,I uninstalled it.Within five minutes. I don't like having real people in my games. It is distracting seeing them "interacting" (or trying to# with an animated setting. I have often wondered if the reason more and more games are including real people in them,is the designers way of trying to save a buck. Or to give amateur actors #relatives perhaps?) a job. In any case, when I see that the game has people in it,I don't play it. Others may adore that aspect but I do not. :| May 20, 2014
DEFINITLY NOT CE QUALITY Would not buy at half price. Positive comment: Map did work well. Really wanted more - could have been good. May 17, 2014
