Dark Dimensions: Somber Song
A little on the easy side, but fun and enjoyable. The hidden object scenes were a little different, I liked that. 2014

Dark Dimensions Somber song...nothing to sing about!
This story about a tragic fire that consumes a children's music school is an adult oriented HOPA not for kids. It involves 3 main characters; Elijah, Selina, and the Mother. Elijah helps you investigate the mystery and Selina needs your help. You definitely need the teleport map because you travel all over the town of 7 oaks. Find objects, unique ho's that are more like puzzles since every object needs an object to complete. This was difficult. The story shows a valium prescription and Lithium medicine is an inventory item, which I thought was a bit much. Then you must complete a cult ritual which threw me off the story. I found this difficult to review because it is a long game with great production values, but the story could have been better. I suggest demo before deciding.

Intricate, complex play in a very slow-moving game. I would never have made it through the demo without the help of the the interactive map and the hint button, which is actually a piano.
There's quite a bit of foreshadowing to convey some kind of nefarious goings-on either before, during or after the fire. However, the teases were not enough to overcome the boredom. I would hope the rest of the game is not just following around after a black cloud of smoke.
Every HOG during the demo was the progressive type, and that also started to get old, particularly as it was never quite clear what the next step should be. I thought it made the HOGs more tedious than fun. Better to have a mix of types instead of the same kind over and over again.
The puzzles are simple, other than all the going back and forth to collect the various parts -- tiles and so forth -- needed to complete them. Even I could finish most of them.
There is no option to customize the level of difficulty or the length of hint and skip refills -- a definite negative for me since I don't like puzzles and want to skip them as quickly as possible.
I didn't find anything in this game to make it stand out from the rest. A tragic story, missing piano keys, magnet drops, fish net retrievals, glass shards, distract the cat, etc. etc. etc. At least you don't have to repair the ladder!
Get it on sale.

Dark Ain't the Word I Would Use
This is posted after playing the entire game.
I just finished this game and I have to say it was not the most enjoyable time I have spend playing. Fun, no. Just doesn't have it. I spent more time trying to figure out what to do in the hidden object scenes than I ever have. More on challenge later.
The graphics were fine. They were of a cartoon nature rather than realistic. The voice overs, what there were of them were also fine and music went along with the story.
I don't mind a challenge, but this bordered on impossible. Not only do you have to find objects, but you have to figure out what they to with. I've had these before and found then generally good entertainment, but this was beyond that. It was so bad it got boring. These were more like the dreaded mini games than hidden objects. Compared to the hidden objects, the mini games were a piece of cake.
There is a map, that goodness, or I would still be wondering around in some dimension somewhere. I did not find the hint button to be very helpful at all. It just points to something, but no hint as to what is to be done. This is a very challenging game for sure.
The story lost me in the demo. I still don't know why I bought this, except that I thought it would get better with time. It didn't, but maybe the next time I play through my games I will have forgotten this experience and enjoy it.
Play the demo, and that is just about what you are going to see, well maybe worse, as the game progresses.

5 Stars Again!!! I Don't Think So
The constant 5 star ratings for mediocre, trite, same old, same old games with awful graphics/colors, cartoon characters & so so music/sound effects is becoming most annoying & frustrating.
There is nothing eerie/spooky/exceptional or haunting about this game. I found myself bored & yawning after only a short time of playing this game.
There was the usual jump map & the HOG's were interactive. The couple of mini-games I played were not that challenging. Didn't get too the Match 3 option which was fine with me as I think it is a silly game with no rhyme or reason. It seems like a game for 4 yr olds & not players who want a real challenge.
Cannot fathom why anyone would even remotely consider this a 5 star game

Dark Dimensions: Somber Song
This is not an enjoyable game. Even the hidden object games are difficult. I play many of these types of games and this has been the least enjoyable game I have purchased. It fools you in the demo, then when you buy the game and play it you get an extremely difficult game. So far I am doing nothing but waiting for the hint button to recharge, even in the H.O.s. I don't know if I will make it to the end of this game.
