Didn't end up in my 'dead' [games] file.... Nope, no VO's or woopdeedoo's, yet, Mexicana: Day of the Dead is a thoroughly entertaining game that stands on it's own and is truly the real deal [NO knock off here!] despite the low budget and FIRST impressions. I am pretty certain I had done a beta test for this, yet the artwork and storyline was a bit different and to my eye, the graphics were a lot better in the original [no offense to the current art team, if, indeed different, just a matter of preference]. Despite the artwork... it IS, well, interesting [?] and sort of grows on you, and overall this game is SO much better than the usual, run of the mill... I wish it had the 'limelight' as tomorrow's game today, yet go figure. The "Day of the Dead" [Spanish: Da de Muertos] is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico [and world in other cultures]. It is a holiday for gathering family and friends to remember [and pray] for loved ones who have died. Enjoy the small nuances [black bar commentary when scanning scenes, as an example] and then immerse yourself in a game that takes you on a journey that is NOT all darkness and dread. There is a whole lot of cultural accuracy applied to details within the game... this and the way the storyline draws you in [initially I was prepared to dislike this game!!].... definitely give it a whirl and try it for the WHOLE Demo [at least] before you decide. : ) So, bottomline: I am upping my star rating a bit due to it's originality.... again, LOVE the music, artwork, general originality in development of plotline... which is a [heavy adventure themed] HOPA & ....a definite buy for this Senora! Enjoy & happy gaming! : ) April 17, 2014
Nice Game This is a nice game the graphics and sound are tight and nice. It has a slight old school feel. Easy to play and a nice time to pass a few hours. April 16, 2014
Very bright game. Loved the graphics in the game. Liked silhouette searches. Quite an unusual game .Thanks! April 17, 2014
Dia de Muertos! The Day of the Dead, certainly not a new story, the graphics are poor, there are no voiceovers, but oddly I enjoyed playing this game. Maria and Vitor are sidetracked by a fortune teller on their way to the Carnival, a mistake they'll soon regret. The realm between the living and the dearly departed is very thin on this celebrated day, and before you know it Vitor is amongst the dead! We are in luck today because the fortune teller also knows a ritual to perform that will allow us to cross over as well. As I said before, the story has been told before, and the graphics aren't very good, at times the cartoonish introduction of characters is comical but for some strange reason (must be the fortune tellers work) I played the entire demo and was so into one of the mini games that I was surprised when the game ended abruptly. There are only 2 modes of difficulty and I chose the expert mode because I don't like sparkles, so I'm not sure if anything is different. Everything about this game seems to be a hidden object quest, anything may need to be acquired and there is no indication by way of cursor change so I just clicked on things I thought would be acquired. The mini games aren't bad, nothing new, but entertaining still the same. Most of the mini games involve following directions such as gathering ingredients and following the directions to make pan de muerto, or making the correct color of paints by adding different pigments together. The Hidden Object scenes were doubled up and they are a mixture of interactive list finds, progressive silhouettes, and progressive list finds, where you have to interact with the items such as finding pinecones and putting the pinecones into a smoker and so forth. I'm not going to candy coat this game, a lot of people are going to despise the cheapness of this game but I'm sure a lot of people will love the relaxing atmosphere of an easy laid back game, enjoy! Give it a try! I nearly switched off during the intro, hating the artistic style and finding the depictions of the characters very unappealing. What kept me going was the music and, once into the action, I began to enjoy the gameplay. I was disappointed when the trial finished as had been drawn in. It is not a 'classic' game to be kept forever and replayed, but it is entertaining, straightforward enough for novice players and definitely worth a fiver or a coupon if, like me, you are a HO addict currently experiencing a bit of a dearth of SE games. Give it a try, stick with it and, like me, you may well enjoy it! April 17, 2014
SO FUN! ... GREAT MUSIC! based on demo ... graphics are simplistic, but the game is FUN ... a nice change of pace ... the music keeps you jumpin and is UPBEAT! ... that is refreshing ... HOs are pretty easy, and the puzzles are inviting ... not one with all the bells and whistles, but i am really ENJOYING this one! ... glad to see something DIFFERENT! ... and the game keeps you moving, something i look for ... the best mid-week game i've seen in a while!!! Great, fun, relaxing game. Just the right game for me. Played in casual mode (usually play in expert). Many variations in hidden object scenes (love that). Puzzles are not so hard that you cannot solve them. Good overall story. Really enjoying. April 16, 2014
Fun and different I liked this game a lot. It's fun and is a bit different from some of the other hidden object games I've played lately. It's nice to play a fun game with a little challenge, as well. I really like this and plan on purchasing it. April 16, 2014
Ok Hidden Object Game Started out ok till you find out there is no map to help you get around. Games are a bit tedious and not that challenging . Story line is not bad. There is no sound of voices, all is story line. April 17, 2014
Terrific fantasy game Really, really enjoyed playing this game, Very thoughtful and different hidden object plays. Fun graphics, good music--a real adventure that wasn't based on the past. Designers put great care and work on the story. The ending was abrupt, I guess because I wanted to play more but I felt let down, like a book that doesn't end but you know a sequel is coming. So thanks Anawar, do more like this! July 9, 2014
