Hope Lake 3.4 5 54 54
This "Hope" DOES Disappoint The distinguishing feature of Hope Lake is, unfortunately, that it has perhaps the most annoying music ever composed for a game. Unless your veins and arteries flow with caffeine, it is impossible to listen to for very long. The game is otherwise pretty ordinary, There is nothing compelling about the artwork, somewhat drab and flat looking. There are very few voices heard beyond the opening cut scene. The hidden object areas are moderately difficult because they are dark and oddly lit, and there is some fuzziness to the objects. Also some objects are identified by unusual names. The story did have some promise, while not original. However, though you are supposedly hot on the trail of a kidnapper, there is no sense of urgency projected. After seemingly innumerable tasks and backtracking, I began to lose interest in finding the "girls" - who appear to be too uhh, developed, to still be called girls. The first mini game should have been simple; put the animals into the correct environment. However, I never did figure it out and it was not interesting enough to take the time to really pursue. I won't be taking a dip in this Lake May 21, 2014
Disappearing girls--Loony Governess? I'm not hard to please, but this game doesn't cut it. The storyline is ok: girls are disappearing from a boarding school and you are the detective trying to find out who and why. The graphics were poor: grainy, grey, and hard to see in the HOs. The HOs were word list, some a bit interactive, but items were misnamed and some were very hard to see. There is a journal, case for recovering evidence (nothing cool, just an empty briefcase that items go into), a flashlight, and a walkie-talkie for a hint button. Not much to do in the scenes, just walk around gathering items and then backtracking several scenes to use them, and you don't know where the HOs are. Hint button is directional pointing. The hint button takes 1 min. on casual and 2 min. on expert to recharge. No map. Black-bar hints look like an old typewriter in white ink on black background, with bits of the letters faded out. I turn down the music, so can 't comment on that. I was not impressed. I think perhaps it's worth a daily deal, but not full price. But try it; maybe your opinion will be different. May 21, 2014
NOTHING NEW This isn't a bad game, but it isn't a great one either. There are no new ideas here. The story line, every problem, every solution, every mini-game and HOS item have all been done a gazillion times before. And again, we have the same old problem of bad translation in the HOS. You have a flashlight that works well especially in the HOGs, but why should a flashlight even be necessary? Still, I thought it was a good addition that would be helpful in other games. I've always thought a tool kit, a working flashlight and a loaded firearm would be obvious things for a detective to bring along on an investigation! I'm sorry to say, even as a DD or COTW, this wouldn't be a buy for me, but I think some fishies new to the pond might like it. May 23, 2014
WE ARE CONFUSED Not once, not twice but 3 times in the Hidden object scenes you were to look for a key, well guess what the key turned out to be a wrench and visa versa, its pretty bad when the developer doesn't know the difference between a key and a wrench. We also got stuck so used the hint which took us to the lake side with the woman in the boat where it told us there wasn't anything to do there and that's where we are stuck and can't go any further as no matter where we go there's nothing to do there and the hint takes right back to the lake shore where again it says there isn't anything to do there. we just finally just gave up. Long SE Game The game has 46 panels to open and you go back to them several times. The hidden objects are dark, but you gain a flashlight in the beginning and you can use it anywhere in the game. The mini-puzzles are not hard and there is a skip button. You also have a hint key, a compass, an evidence case and journal with notes. You are hired to find out what happend at this boarding school. There are some snags in the game -- try the demo. Overall once you get the flow of the game it is pretty good. June 2, 2014
Hope Lake Leaves Mixed Feelings I have to say that Hope Lake is not a bad game. The storyline is not new: the female detective exploring a school and confronting a maniac. That being said, what made me cut the rating on this game is a lack of consistency and proper names for items in the HOG scenes. For example, in one hunt a "wrench" is called a "key". In another hunt later in the game, its called a "wrench". There is a list of items that are misleading by their names. You cannot rely on the list in a lot of cases. The mini games are very simple and fairly easy. This is a long playing game, so you do get your money's worth. I would have given a higher rating if more attention had been paid to the naming of items. I would recommend this game. June 6, 2014
I really wanted to like this game more. The graphics were beautifully drawn, but each new location took forever to appear. It would fade into the new place so slowly that I was eager to finish the game. I did like that there were a lot of locations and things to do. I did NOT like that there were SO MANY hidden object scenes. It was overbearing. The mini games weren't very challenging and there were a lot of them too. I decided to give it a chance because there were other games that got low ratings but I liked them anyway. This wasn't really one of them. I think it had potential, but they should have made the difficult mode more difficult. May 27, 2014
Same Old, Same Old Same old storyline, same old HOS, same old puzzles, graphics, very old school, game play slow & clunky. I got bored after 20 minutes of the free trial & uninstalled. I suggest you download the free trial before purchasing & see what you think. May 21, 2014
problems i was in a hidden object section and couldn't find an item and pressed hint and i never could find the object. it was in the beginning at the crime scene when the car crashed. i was looking for the ladle and it was a highlighted item any help? May 22, 2014
