Vast Improvement over Scarlet Hand Both "Secret of the Scarlet Hand" and "Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake" have been published in 2002. The first one in September, the other one in November. But during those months there must have been some kind of meeting at the developer that I am not allowed to name. I criticized "Scarlet Hand" for having an ancient graphic, not much interaction with other characters and my biggest beef was that you had to travel back to the hotel all the time to look at your notes, thus having to write down everything and draw maps for yourself. Now, what did they change in Moon Lake, Pennsylvania? Interaction is still at a minimum, you meet three people during the game. Graphics seem to be a little better, let's say instead of 1992 I would now say you can compare it to games from 1999. :-) But, big BUT, you get a Palm. So essentially you have your clues with you all the time - get stuck, have a look on the palm, you are on your way again. And suddenly the game is much less unnerving and much better. The puzzles are fine, most of the time it's clear what you have to do - and you can always phone Bess, George and the Hardys, with the phone being in a convenient, central location. Scare factor is minimal though - you see the dogs once at the start of the game, then nothing until the showdown. When you find the culprit's diary it's also easy to figure out whose face will appear in the tunnel. Bottom Line: Big improvement over the previous game, recommended as entry to the series. It was an OK game Only one of a few nancy drew games I have played (apart from the dossier series). I play loads of other straight adventure games. The good - graphics, feeling you are on an adventure, and the maze (the first time!) not so good - I had to keep going back and forth for conversations with people after I did something and this took a lot of time and most of it, nothing new to say - so infuriating. If you don't like mazes this game isn't for you. I had to keep going back through this out door maze and just kept getting lost. It was very well done but at the end could have thrown the whole game out the window when I had to keep going through it! There is sort of an other maze as well, indoor. I don't like walkthroughs so spent ages wandering around not knowing what to do next, loads of backtracking and the maze brought down the game for me. (usually in adventure games the objectives are clearer and you know what and when to do something) If you like mazes I recommend it. I discovered through this game that I don't! Puzzles were nice when you got to them. January 5, 2012
Loved it I loved ghost dogs of moon lake and although I got confused a lot XD it was still really fun and was my favourite. This game had a lot of puzzles and although many were hard, I lived to see the haunted carousel, and I am happy to say that this game was awesome!!! December 29, 2011
Spooky who dunnit (or rather... whose doin it) :) An excellent Nancy Drew game that takes you away from the mainstream stress of everyday life into a little cottage/cabin in the quiet, tranquil woods owned by a friend of the family who recently purchased it... or IS it all that?? If you want to call it a vacation?! Afterall you will have no access to a car to get away in, only a motor boat to travel with the option of travel by foot to escape in a large expanse of wilderness and in addition, you will have to be concerned about having all the supplies you need, and whether the water may be tainted, AND there is a chance you will be killed, or frightened to death... but, through it all, hey, remember.... you can do it and it's a paid vacation, afterall!!! So... just exactly WHO or WHAT is behind all the terrorizing and exactly who or what can you trust in your immediate vacinity OR even those from the past during your stay?!! Will YOU be able to find out while unraveling this mystery and will you be surprised as to just who/what ends up to be the culprit.... or will you be KILLED!!??? YOU will have to play to find out !!!!...... Bwaahaahaaa. January 11, 2012
