Veronica Rivers: Portals to the Unknown
Started out ok, then...
I began this game with 3 stars and it deteriorated as I went along. The HO scenes were okay and some items needed a good search. But the scans got tedious. The puzzles were very easy and, although they got a little harder through the game, they still posed little problem. AND - they were soooo repetitive. By the halfway point of the game, I was bored and couldn't wait to finish! The repetition really became annoying. The texts were problematic with the use of English. And the end made me shake my head.

I felt that I had to finish this game because I had paid for
it, but I found myself trying to get to the end as quickly as possible. The hidden object scenes can be quite challenging, the minigames are ludicrously easy. I found I was clicking the hint button much more often than I usually do, just to get through quickly, but often in the hidden object scenes, the hint button was no use at all as the object flashed up so quickly you needed to be pretty sure of where it was before the hint would help you.
I normally like hidden object games, but this one was just too tedious. The hidden tablet and evidence components were particularly tedious and I don't, even now after finishing the game, understand what purpose they served.
Copying characters onto the phone was also annoying and there seemed to be no reason why some attempts were acceptable, and others not.
It would have been better if the game gave you some indication of how far you were through the story instead of
bombarding you with more of the same again and again.
Don't waste your money or time!

Pretty boring, painfully slow & silly 'movie' scenes, repetitive

Not good on any level
The story. It makes no sense. Near the beginning she comes across a wounded scientist she's been looking for. Then nothing. No dialogue, etc. The graphics were bad. Made the HOSs difficult. The minigames, the easiest I've encountered.
The only interesting thing about this game is that the same dev subsequently did Elixir of Immortality and it's a great game at every level. So interesting to see how they've grown as a company from this game to Elixir.

Not even worth it for free!
I found this game to be repetitive and boring. Same mini-games over and over which were way too easy. Sound effects were dull and uninteresting. I rarely use hints in games, but did a few times here because I wasn't interested enough to keep looking for items. The hints were pretty much useless-flashing briefly on the item. If you blinked, you missed it. Another case, too where foreign writers are trying to write in English and some lines just didn't even make sense. It's just irritating. Scenes didn't make sense either. At one point Veronica is happy to have found a submarine for undersea exploring when in the scene before she was underwater with no diving equipment at all. Also, she can be in outer space with no gear as well. Just added to the stupidity of the game. The game had some potential with cool ideas for object searches, but the designers just failed in the execution. The constant repetition is what completely ruined the game for me. I almost didn't even bother finishing it, but my OCD factors insisted that I get through it, lol. Just because a game is long and drawn out doesn't make it worth the money. Save yours and find a different game to buy! Have fun!
