Not Much Of A HO But I Like The Match 3
You are a student at the High School of Magical Arts, where your Uncle just happens to be an alchemist/wizard! The very first scene has you searching for hidden scrolls and parchment paper but this is really a match 3 game with a few HO mini games. There are trophies or achievements to earn as well. The only complaint I have is that the different colors of gems don't stand out enough and when you progress in levels, it gets difficult because of this. The main idea is to collect coins that are in some of the gems, by matching at least 3 of those. You will also have to make matches in order to thaw some of the frozen gems. Some of the gems have bonus tokens, lightning bolts, explosions, thunder towers and even sprinkling the entire board with coins. You use these coins to upgrade your castle and surrounding areas. A very entertaining match 3 game, enjoy!

Get Rid of the Leprechaun!
first off, this is a really good game, along the lines of Bejewelled, the graphics are really clear and it fun to play with a good level of challenge. My gripe is the mini game where a Leprechaun is tootling around collecting gold, this is annoying , spoils the flow of the game and is really quite sluggish , other mini games within are also sluggish with the mouse response being painfully slow - but overall a nice game

A Simple story match 3, and more
Enjoyed this one. Good, progressively more complex, match three game. Plus some extras like Hidden Object. The story doesn't interfere with the game play.

Relaxing match 3 with a good story to go with it.
It's not often you find a good story line to go with any game these days, but you will find both here in Alchemist's Apprentice.
You are an apprentice at Magic and Alchemy when you are called upon by your Uncle to manage his Kingdom while he's away. Unfortunately, his Kingdom is in ruins do to his obsession with the Sorcerer's Stone. It's up to you to clean things up a bit.
This is a typical match 3 (or more) games by matching jewels/gems vertically or horizontally in matches of 3 or more. Sometimes they will be iced over and you have to make suitable matches to unfreeze the gems. You earn bonuses along the way which will explode, etc. as needed. You don't have to do a thing!
That's about it. Graphics are good, music ok. Nothing special about the background. But, this IS a timed game.
The Bonus Level drove me nuts. I'm not very good at collecting coins that fall from a tree. Your cursor is supposed to guide the leprechaun to catch them (and not the leaves) off the tree but mine failed horribly. LOL
Collecting coins and more in this fun match 3 should be a game everyone can enjoy. Not a purchase for me as I own too many match 3 games i have yet to play.

Fun, up to a point
The first level was just what I was looking for -- a nice, relaxing, mindless match-3 game, with the additional bonus of a simple hidden object game every so often.
Nice graphics; storyline unnecessary but also unobtrusive.
However, at some point a timer was added, and that just destroyed it for me. I quit at level 2 stage 8; it's just boring, repeating the same board over and over because I've run out of time. I realize that it's not a whole lot different from moving on to the next one, but psychologically, I feel stuck.
I agree that the bonus game with the leprechaun is distracting and annoying.
If you like trying to beat the clock, then add at least one star.
