Penny Dreadfuls: Sweeney Todd Collector`s Edition
Rich gameplay...spooky atmosphere and superb graphics!
I was never a favorite of HOGs, but Penny Dreadfuls set itself a part from others. The puzzles were intriguing, and of course the story plot was good and well translated from the original into a very good game. I found the quality of this game to be up there amongst some of the greats like Drawn and Midnight Mysteries. The graphics, story line, puzzles and overall feeling were created perfectly. Thanks BFG for bringing another great game to us for an even greater price.

My Favorite Game So Far
I'm about halfway through and already wish this game would never end. Lots of fun HOGs and puzzles (the latter challenging to me). Nice orchestral soundtrack and (vocal) recitative. There are lots of different scenes which within limits one can visit in one's own order which is nice for more spontaneous play. A great game for those who enjoy contemporary-style Broadway music and/or Victorian mysteries as well as well-designed games with interesting characters, a story line and a bit of wit.

I loved this HOG for the story line and production values. I actually loved the singing. It was professional and the voice acting throughout was superb.
As a CE I was expecting extra game play but realized to follow the actual story the game had to end when it did. I hope to see more Penny Dreadfulls.

I sampled this game when it first came out and didnt care for it, but tried it again today and love it! has some amusing times and is fun and i really like the interaction with the host! Highly recommend this game if you like to just relax and not have a lot of thinking time!

The scenery is beautifully done. The graphics are great. The objects in the hidden scenes do not stand out at all, unlike a lot of games. The storyline follows through wonderfully. The only downfall to this game, is that it is really short. I did expect there to be a little more to it.

After skipping the musicals, there was lots of hidden object scenes. I'm a big HOS fan myself and enjoyed the hunt to find all the objects. But that was pretty much it. There are little mini games of finding different objects aside from the HOS, however with a crankey old man telling you you aren't getting these mini games right it.
The colors are beautiful and the detailing is fantastic.

BASED ON COMPLETED GAME
Game length was a little over 4 hours on casual. Game is based on the story of the theatrical musical production of "Sweeney Todd," including the songs from the show. Constant comments from the narrator accompany gameplay, which will put a lot of people off. It kept me from getting bored as I found it a little entertaining.
Graphics a little faded and indistinct. The HOS are list-based and somewhat difficult to find all objects without the hint. Click on an object you can't find and the hint will show you a square within which is the object.
Travel to locations only via the map. Completed locations are checked off. The game is in chapters and just because a location is completed in one chapter does not mean that it won't reappear. Puzzles are challenging, as they have no instructions. Enough thought will bring the solution to you. Skipping puzzles will add 15 minutes of game time to your final total if you are keeping score.
I played casual and sparkles highlighted each area where there was an activity to perform. If playing the harder difficulty, if there are no sparkles, I think it would take you forever to finish the game.
SUMMARY: Game can be frustrating, especially in the beginning, when you encounter non-normal play. If you don't know what to do, just go to the map until all the locations are checked off to find out where you can have actions to perform. Mostly they are HOS. You are looking for evidence against Sweeney Todd, and some of the evidence you collect is given to you after completing a HOS; but what is odd is that the article given to you was not in the HOS. I liked the game, but many people will not, even if muted.

Nothing really wrong with it...just kinda uninteresting. You have to go back from place to place cause new stuff shows up after you have finished everything in one place. Not crazy about that, cause you don't really have any direction. Just kinda blah.

BASED ON TRUE FACTS
This is quite a challenging game and great for experts.
* Casual and Challenge modes of play;
* Interactive map;
* Can replay HOS and mini-games
* The singing tells the story;
* Try to get on the list of the Top 10 Watchmen.
I played on the Challenge mode and refused to use any hints or skip anything.
In the Challenge mode, at the end of every chapter you get:
So you know how well you've done. Now you know why I didn't use any hints.
The graphics are not bad. Its sort of quite dark and a bit dreary but you can see everything okay. The music is adventurous and I quite liked it.
The hidden object games were quite challenging. There were quite a few items I had never heard of before - but come on it was a few hundred years ago and we don't use these items anymore. So I had to look in my dictionary and googled online a bit. At least I learned some new things I suppose. Some of the items were really well hidden, so I had to take my time and look really hard.
The mini-games were quite easy and I didn't take long with them at all.
I liked the story and thought it was well done. The singing tells you about the characters and, even though I didn't really like it much, I listened to it to get the full story.
I think the game took me about 4.1/2 hours all up. I managed to get on the Watchmens board at 4th place. I'll try and do better next time.
So overall, definitely recommended. The level of challenge is good, not bad graphics and good story line.

The flow just isn't there for me, and I'm bored! Cute musical concept tho!
I bought the CE edition and with all due respect to the developers, the artwork is grainy, some objects difficult to find amidst all the junk. Ugh, some of the objects were disgusting; I could almost smell the rotting fish! If you're playing in the challenge mode there are penalties for over-clicking. For the HOS--you will frequent the same junk pile scenes at times. I like balance in a game. The flow just isn't there. Far too many HOGs. The actors are great though and great cut scenes. I still recommend it. Obviously others liked it; it's an okay game but nothing to write home about.
